A Little Bit About Jonzac

Jonzac is quite spectacular, evidenced by the fact that since 2015, it has belonged to the Most Beautiful Detours in France, which helps visitors find the most beautiful places in France that aren’t necessarily on the main routes.
It is a stunning medieval town, with an imposing 15th-century château, plenty of bars and restaurants, and a great water park (Les Antilles) with indoor and outdoor beaches, slides, wave machines etc. There is also a free bathing lake beside a children’s adventure course, where you can select four activities, bouncy castles, trampolines, wall climbing, etc for around €10 for the 4. The best bit is that these don’t all have to be done on the same day, so you can go back later in your holiday & can enjoy yourselves again.
Well worth a wander is the medieval street down from the castle, cool and utterly peaceful in the summer heat.
Jonzac has a weekly morning market, and in summer an additional weekly market on a Wednesday evening, where the locals gather to eat & buy fresh produce, and generally relax in the balmy evenings. Rural France’s night markets are a real treat – the best of the local food to choose from (don’t forget your cutlery!) along with locally produced wines & other drinks, then you can sit down at the communal tables and take in the atmosphere, accompanied by music and the chatter of other contented diners. Jonzac is home to some of the most beautiful holiday cottages in France.
