Description
Paradise FrancaisWe bought this lovely old house 25 years ago as an escape from our very busy working lives in the UK. Its the perfect getaway for anyone wanting to reconnect with nature and the unspoilt world. At the time we had no idea just how special this little part of France was - but as soon as we were able to spend time here we realised the spectacular sunsets and the seemingly endless starry skies where you can see the Milky Way - makes it a very special place.
Nearby (7 minutes) is a small town with a well stocked supermarket and a couple of bars - bakery and other small shops and a post office. 15 minutes in the other direction is a larger town with 4 supermarkets - bars, some very good restaurants and during the summer theres many evening outdoor events. 15 minutes to the south is the beautiful Lac St Pardoux - with woodland walks - and incredible automated water skiing system - sailing boats and canoes to rent and and some fantastic free evening events for all the family every Wednesday and Saturday. Limoges is just 40 minutes drive and is worth a visit as its a lovely small city with an interesting history and timbered houses down ancient lanes to wander through - a busy food market every morning where you can sit and eat what you buy - or just stop for a drink to watch a typical French scene - and many many good value restaurants offering the amazing good value set lunches ar around €20 - 25 for 3 courses of quality Limousin food. A little further away is the Martyred village of Oradour sur Glane - which has been stopped in time as it was left after the village was massacred during WW2. Its a haunting but somehow beautiful place to visit - sad but peaceful - and is one of the few preserved villages in the world where you can see the cars and sewing machines just where they were over 80 years ago. A little ligher and very close is the gorgeous little inhabited village of Montrol Senard which is also an open museum but of how village life used to be - some of the buildings have been left as they were 100 years ago - so you can sit at the school desks - visit the blacksmith, the forge, bakery and butchers. Many with photos of just how they were when they were in use.
There are 4 upstairs bedrooms - 1 King - 2 double and a single off one of the doubles making a nice family suite - and a family bathroom and ensuite shower room to the master bedroom. Downstairs there is a further twin bedroom off the second sitting room so again this forms a separate suite for anyone wanting somewhere quiet away from the rest of the house. Above this is the games room with Pool and Table Tennis - and a library of novels for lazy days by the pool. A large sitting / dining room with TV and Satellite receiver / recording box and a second sitting room with another tv and DVDs - and a small table for playing board games. A fully equipped kitchen with all the usual items - and a rear corridor leads to a toilet and utility area with washing machine and another fridge for keeping drinks chilled if needed. Off this is another room with some gym equipment and another room with a selection of bicycles if anyone has some energy to burn off. But the star of the show is the 10 x 4m heated swimming pool - with its own pool house and toilet and small kitchen area - even though its only 30m from the house at the far end of the garden you can be totally self contained without the need to move far from your sun lounger. Theres also a small pond so please be aware if you have small children.
