This charming villa is only 5 minutes walk from the traditionally French village centre, on the outskirts of Montpellier, with its ancient church and delightful river walks. It's only 10 mins by car to the beautiful historic centre of Montpellier. Access to the house is via a short private drive into the pleasantly landscaped grounds.
It is very generously laid out with spacious lounges, terraces to the front garden and cool terraces in the back. The large, rambling and secluded garden with its own generous pool, terraces and barbecue area has been landscaped to preserve the natural beauty of the original Languedocian Garrigue. Garden furniture around the pool and patios, and a large outdoor barbecue provide an inviting opportunity to relax late into the warm summer nights.
The interior of the house is tastefully furnished with a spacious living room with large screen LED 3D TV and music centre with DVD dolby digital surround; second spacious reception room with French door to the back terrace; dining room; fully equipped kitchen with 4 hobs, electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
There are 5 comfortable bedrooms, (1 with double beds, 3 with King size beds, 1 with a full-size double bunk bed for 2). One of the upstairs bedrooms has its own balcony; there is also a study with a sofa bed for 2 additional guests, leading onto the front terrace; 3 bathrooms, separate WC; the basement is spacious with provision for up to two cars. It also has a laundry area with a washing machine and drier, and an additional fridge/freezer. There is also a play area in the basement with a table tennis table.

"Our holidays in Villa des Cigales, 11th-25th August 2012 We all arrived on the 11th August, after a very very long journey. We all thought that the villa was lovely, with plenty of room for everyone. It`s been very hot each day. We will all be leaving with a good tan! The children have really enjoyed their time in the pool. After two weeks we will be returning home, but wont forget our lovely time here. We had a lovely holiday enjoying our time playing in the pool, canoeing 12km, the wonderful beaches and especially the village fete, including entertainment such as the bulls. The weather has been brilliant and we dont want to go home" Steve and Sallie, Clodie, Cleo, Chad, Ross, Rory in Bedforshire, UK

Hi Steve and Sally, It is guests like you and your friends who make it so worthwhile to do our best to prepare the villa for a truly memorable holiday. You clearly made the most of your time and enjoyed all the facilities to the full, exploring the surroundings and special events which were taking place. We do hope we can welcome you back one of these days to another family holiday. Our very best wishes, John and Christina
What a beautiful and well equipped villa.

What a beautiful and well equipped villa. This has been an ideal holiday and situation for our coss generation holiday. Restaurants were a bit tricky to find until we used our Sat Nav and the Clos des Oliviers in the next village, St Gely du Fesc came up trumps for a celebration or our son in Law's birthday. Visits to The Grotte de Clamouse,St Guihelm- le- Desert, Sete and Montpellier were highlights of our visit. We are looking forward to returning this summer. The Phillips and Helm Families London Uk

Superb villa set in a pretty garden with pool and every home comfort - amazing holiday
By Val Forrest on 12-Oct-2016
'Many thanks Christina - we all had the most wonderful time in the villa. This was my second visit, I loved it so much last year I was keen to return with family and friends this year. Everyone agreed what a comfortable, well-equipped home this is with a lovely atmosphere. It feels like people have had very happy times there. The house is immediately so welcoming. The house is spacious and the furnishings are tasteful - everything we needed was there. The large garden is beautiful too with a pool, and a hammock which was perfect! We struggled to prise ourself away from the lovely terrace after long leisurely breakfasts of locally bought produce from the village a short walk away. However, once we started to explore, we discovered the delights of Montpelier, a walking tour of the old historic parts and the art gallery. Two members of our party made a day trip to Northern Spain to visit the Dali Museum which was easily manageable by car, back in time for supper! We enjoyed trips to some beautiful beaches nearby and know that there is far more to see in the region............next time.
Vacation in a lovely villa
By Wilfried Oelkuch on 25-Apr-2016
We, that is two couples, felt lucky to spend a very wonderful vacation week in this really lovely villa from 29/08/2015 until 05/09/2015. Already the warm welcome by Claire, the kind administrator, made us forget the traffic jams on the highway very quickly. We found a welcome basket with nibbles and wine prepared for us on arrival and a first tour through the villa with the appropriate explanations by Claire resulted in even exceeding our high expectations. The encounter via email with John and Christina, the owners, was very pleasant and their informative "Guide to a restful holiday" sent to us before arrival, had already given us the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the practicalities of the villa, wide choice of excursions, restaurants and shopping. We found a very well maintained villa in equally well kept grounds. One noticed immediately that these premises were created not only for holiday guests but clearly also enjoyed by the owners for their own holidays. The decor inside and out is of high quality and we found everything we needed for a successful holiday week. The villa is located in a quiet residential area on a sloping hillside to the south and is virtually in full sunshine throughout the day, which resulted in us making good use of the generously sized pool. We also liked that we were able to park both cars inside the grounds of the property. Trips to the historic center of Montpellier and the mountainous hinterland were also a good experience. The very minor drawback was the slightly longer journey to the Mediterranean beaches, but which, once you were there, were very beautiful and left nothing to be desired. In conclusion, we can say that we can recommend this villa without any restriction. Heidi und Wilfried Oelkuch, Germany
What a fantastic house!
By Simon Hosler on 25-Jul-2015
We were perfectly comfortable all week inside and out. Had brilliant meals out on the terrace and used the BBQ. Lovely fun times at the pool with space in the garden to relax and chill. We would love to come back. So much space and quality equipment. You can tell it is a second home used regularly by the owners. Recommendations: Canoeing at Pont du Diable (lovely pebbled beach with river swimming), Beach at l`Espiguette - shallow water, HUGE sandy beach, fab café (have Tapas!!) Zoo - free! in a pine forest Aquarium - bargain for all for a more cloudy day.
Our wonderful experience at Villa des Cigales
By Nancy Robinson on 10-Jul-2015
This villa is everything promised and MUCH MORE! This is an absolutely beautiful and very livable home which we all enjoyed. Having a disparate group of 3 married couples, one single woman, and two 13-year-old girls required that there would be multiple things to do and ample space at the villa for everyone to spread out and find their own niches. And we did just that! A few of us craved the small back patio and table. That’s where early risers enjoyed their breakfasts and some online reading of the news (the Wi-Fi is excellent). Others wanted to coziness of the kitchen table for breakfast, while others (teenagers mostly!) slept in. The quiet and large second living room became the private hangout of the teens. Ping pong in the basement was great. Hammock snoozing became a favorite pastime. Dinners out on the covered front terrace were spectacular. We made daily forays down to the marvelous patisserie in the village and consumed untold numbers of croissants. The two big nearby supermarkets - Casino and Carrefours - provided for every need. We found French food to be amazingly CHEAP! The fresh veggies and fruits were exceptional and so inexpensive that we almost turned into vegans during our stay. None of us gained a pound despite many delicious French meals that two of us prepared (we even brought French recipes with us, which were, of course, especially tasty with such great French produce). We also had many delicious restaurant meals all over Paris, the Loire Valley, Montpellier, and the many places we visited while at the villa. Some of us went to Aix-en-Provence and Arles, others to Carcassonne and Nimes. We will went to the Camargue, stopping at that terrific Parc Ornithologique where they have large flocks of flamingoes. We swam in the Med three times. The water is always clean and very refreshing, with sandy bottom. We also went up to St. Guilhem-le-Desert (twice). This is not to be missed, and in particular, people should visit the fabulous Le Grotte La Clamouse. We’ve visited lots of caves in the US, but this exceeds all of them because of its many different levels and fantastic formations. It’s also a cool relief on a very hot day. The village of St. Guilhem has to be among the prettiest in the whole world! And we also stopped to swim down on the Herault River - a lot of fun, with its miniature rapids. Montpelier is a wonderful city in itself, and the tram makes it a breeze to get to. All of us went in at least 3 times, did some shopping, saw the major sights including the extraordinary cathedral. We loved the Musee Fabre, and enjoyed several terrific restaurants. Of course, when we weren’t doing all of these things, we were swimming in the simply gorgeous pool. No one went through an entire day without at least one dip, and the two girls were in it until we dragged them out at 11 pm every night! Thus, the villa provided all 9 of us with a truly wonderful vacation. We are all back at our homes now in England, California, and Maryland, but our hearts are still in the Villa des Cigales. We hope and intend to come back sometime!
Beautiful Villa and Garden – Highly Recommend
By Andy on 09-Dec-2014
Stayed at the Villa des Cigales for a 7-night summer vacation. First impressions were excellent when we were met and shown round by the owners local and English representative – she was extremely helpful. The villa itself is very well appointed, spacious, clean, all the fixtures and fittings were of high quality and in good order. Outside, the garden and pool areas were also very well maintained and attractive. The pool area was a real suntrap with plenty of sun loungers/cushions and sun umbrellas and the pool was in constant use. A little patio area with arbour by the back door provided a lovely shady spot during the heat of the day and the BBQ on the terrace was the focal point for family meals in the evening accompanied by plenty of local wine. The Ping pong table in the garage/games room was a big hit with the children in the evenings. The 20 photos on the trip advisor website give an accurate impression of the villa and local towns & attractions. The Boulangerie and Butchers in the village of Grabels (both 5 mins away) are both excellent. The butchers was of note for preparing a variety of different dishes each day - ideal for organising easily evening meal. The Pizza shop opposite the butchers wasn’t bad either. If you need a supermarket there is a Casino and a large Carrefour within 6km. Less than 10 min by car. I have had many villa vacations in France during the last 20 years and whilst I have enjoyed them all I would rate the Villa des Cigales in the top two. We had a great holiday here. The location I thought was excellent - in a quiet cul-de-sac in a relatively small village meant lots of peace and quiet, yet all the facilities and tourist attractions we wanted to see and do were easily accessable. I would certainly consider returning here in the future.
Our holiday in Villa des Cigales
By Michael Hoyle on 18-Nov-2014
I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the use of the Villa. We have had a lovely holiday and really enjoyed staying in Grabels and exploring the surrounding area. The accommodation was super and all the family have had a very enjoyable break. We have had a lovely 2 weeks staying at Villa des Cigales and being able to play in the pool, relax on the patio and enjoy the sunshine. We have had many trips out like the city tour around Montpellier with wine tasting at the end, and we would highly recommend this! We have also been to Pont du Diable (well worth a visit), Palavas beach, la Grande motte, the Millau Viaduct and Carcassonne. The villa is in a perfect location for visiting these places! We also found that being near to the parking tramway was useful for going in and out of Montpellier centre without getting stuck in traffic. The villa has been great as you can always find a shady spot to cool down in after being in the sun. This in particular was useful as we had a 5 week old baby travelling with us! The facilities have been really good and we have had everything we could have needed. We have had a really good family holiday with 4 generations of our family here! Thank you! The Fantastic Villa des Cigales

THANK YOU for a fabulous holiday. The first holiday for our two families in 5 years and we couldn't have been happier with the villa. The house is fabulous and we particularly loved the terrace. All our young children had a fabulous time too as there is so much space to play. The villa is in a great location; near the sea, the mountains and the beautiful city of Montpelier! We will be coming back!! The Pattisons & Roberts (April 2014)

By Ida Thorbjornsen on 09-Nov-2014
Once again our 2 weeks have come to an end, and we are sad to be leaving. As usual we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay; fun times in the pool and lovely evenings on the patio. In addition to our usual visits to Carcassonne, Minervois, Sète, Marseillan Plage and Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert, we had a day trip to Tain l`Hermitage. Exploring the Cité du Chocolat (Valrhona headquarters) and the Hermitage Vineyards. Highly recommended for chocolate lovers and wine buffs! Thanks again for another lovely stay - we hope to make it a 4th time!

Fantastic holiday in your villa
By Glenda Woods on 09-Oct-2014
We have had a fantastic holiday in your lovely villa. The children have enjoyed swimming in the pool every day and the go-karting was a hit! The villa is in the perfect location for exploring the wider area and we have discovered many new places. A particular thank you for providing a `proper`cot (not travel!) and a changing unit. These touches have made the life of an 18 months old baby`s mum much easier!! We have really loved our week and it marked our mum`s birthday in a very special way. Our holidays in Villa des Cigales, 10th-24th August 2013 The villa is in an outstanding location beautifully sheltered from the villas round about by clever planting. We have enjoyed days by the gorgeous pool and evenings on the terrace in the tranquillity of the surroundings. August is very busy at the beach and all the tourist attractions - such as Pont du Diable, but Montpellier is a fascinating city and we would recommend the little train (which leaves from Place de la Comédie). It tours the historic part of the city and is a good way to see what`s on offer. William`s taxi is brilliant and he is very informative.

Villa des Cigales

Villa des Cigales, 8th-22nd Sept12 "We have enjoyed such a relaxing stay, just what we needed, and in a lovely peaceful area of France. Very friendly people in the village & in the nearby Carrefour supermarket car park we were congratulated on the great London Olympics! We felt proud all over again! The Montpellier train service is great - wish we had it at home. We enjoyed the medieval centres at Les Matelles and St Martin de Londres. Of course the villa & pool have been wonderful - we wished we could stay longer. Thanks to everyone for their help and friendliness. We have rented out holiday houses/villas, mainly in France and Italy, for quite some years now and yours is most certainly in our top two favourites.
