Description

Vico Malaspina

Stone House in Tuscany - A Charming Retreat

A restored historic stone house in the heart of Lunigiana, where silence, nature, heritage, and beauty come together in one unforgettable place. Vico Malaspina was born from a dream: to bring back to life a forgotten piece of local history and share its quiet magic with future guests. For many years, this ancient house stood silent and unused, its stones carrying the memory of centuries. In 2024, the Verderio family purchased the property with the ambition of restoring it with care, respect, and authenticity, allowing its original character to shine once again. The restoration was completed in August 2026. Today, the house has been made structurally safe and earthquake-resistant, while preserving the soul of the original building. Ancient stone portals, wooden windowsills, reclaimed materials, and carefully restored details give every corner a sense of history, warmth, and belonging. The result is not simply a renovated house, but an authentic piece of Tuscany brought back to life. Set on the edge of a tiny medieval village inhabited by only a handful of people, Vico Malaspina is immersed in silence, light, and nature. It is a place where time slows down: mornings begin with the sound of birds and the scent of the woods, afternoons unfold between stone walls warmed by the sun, and evenings invite guests to gather under the stars. Inside, spacious and bright rooms combine the timeless charm of a historic stone farmhouse with the comfort expected from a refined contemporary stay. The atmosphere is elegant yet deeply authentic: nothing feels artificial, and every detail has been chosen to respect the spirit of the place. Outside, the house reveals some of its most memorable spaces. The internal courtyard, with its traditional oven, is perfect for slow evenings, homemade pizza, and simple meals shared beneath the night sky. The large kitchen opens onto a spectacular 80-square-meter panoramic terrace, offering sweeping views over the valley. On summer nights, the woods below are illuminated by thousands of fireflies, creating a scene that feels almost unreal. The garden, surrounded by greenery, and the private pool, set just a few steps from the ancient stone vaults, complete this peaceful retreat. Here, guests can read in the shade, swim in complete privacy, enjoy the warmth of the Tuscan sun, or simply listen to the quiet rhythm of the countryside. Vico Malaspina offers full independence and privacy while preserving the charm of village life. Cars remain outside the pedestrian village, with parking available at the entrance. This keeps the property calm, safe, and beautifully free from noise and traffic, allowing guests to experience clean air, open space, and a rare sense of peace. The surrounding landscape is one of the hidden treasures of northern Tuscany. Lunigiana is a land of medieval villages, castles, chestnut woods, streams, mountain paths, and deep-rooted traditions. From the house, guests can walk through nearby trails, explore pristine woodland, swim in cold natural waters, or visit local markets and cook with fresh seasonal produce.

Ten comfortable beds in four bedrooms on the upper floor. This can be expanded to twelve and (in exceptional cases) eighteen by combining the owners' bedrooms. Four bathrooms: two on the side floor, one on the living room level, and one near the pool area. Large kitchen and spacious living room. Courtyard with oven and tables. Large terrace overlooking the valley. Outdoor area under ancient medieval arches, cellars, garden, and private pool.

The lively village of Bagnone is close by, and a small local café can be reached with a pleasant five-minute walk. Around the property are many of Lunigiana’s most beautiful villages, together with Pontremoli, Sarzana, the beaches of Versilia, the Carrara marble quarries, and the dramatic peaks of the Apuan Alps. Lucca and Pisa are about 50 minutes away, while Florence can be reached in approximately one and a half hours. What makes Vico Malaspina truly special is the rare combination it offers: history and comfort, sea and mountains, culture and countryside, privacy and proximity, simplicity and beauty. It is a place for guests who are not only looking for a house, but for an atmosphere; not only for a holiday, but for a memory.
