This was our first time in Portugal and we loved everything about our stay, but without doubt the highlight of our trip was staying in this beautiful villa. The architectural design of the villa combined with the stunning views of the surrounding countryside, the large heated pool and exceptionally equipped accommodation made this feel like a home away from home. Matt was an excellent communicator and host. This is definitely somewhere we would love to return too!
As four adults and one 13yo young lady, we very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Alcobaca in August 2023. Communications from the owner and from Simply Owners too were prompt, concise and clear, the location was easy to find and access was simple and as described. Driving into the property from the hill top was stunning, the house exterior was architecturally breathtaking, scenery beautiful, garden well-tended with some herbs dotted around (we found rosemary, thyme and chives!). The garage was easy to access and spacious. Inside the house was a folder covering all we needed to know. The house was just gorgeous, all well laid out, perfectly and comfortably furnished, clean, well-lit and very well-equipped all round. The kitchen was a joy to use while others socialised in the living space and whilst still feeling connected to the fun in the garden/pool! We didn’t end up using the TV room but it was lovely. As it was August, we didn’t use the wood fire in the living room. There were books aplenty and games available around the place. We had brought our own portable speaker along but found a small red one was provided. WiFi was reasonable, speed occasionally a touch clunky. Dishwasher and washing machine were straightforward to use. Cleaning products / materials available. An additional fridge in the utility room was useful. Bathrooms / WC were nicely fitted in keeping with the rest of the house and there were plenty of good-sized and good quality towels provided for both bathroom and pool (but bring your own for the beach). Bedrooms were of good size, beds comfortable, with clean bedding, good sheets, lovely covers and other furniture. Good lighting and storage space. Options to open sliding glass doors with ventilation sliders open or shut+locked, or to have the curtains closed. We found that having the front ventilation slot + rear sliding doors open provided perfectly good through breeze, and the sliding shutters helped maintain cool when shut or a through breeze. The pool was wonderful, excellent size and temperature. Lots of swimming, games, floating sunset/star gazing was enjoyed! A pool cleaner came once during our stay but a net was provided beside the pool for our use too. A pool cover was available to retain water heat if required. The sun loungers were modern and comfortable, as were the chairs and chaise lounge under the large shaded area just outside the house. Cushions and seat pads were provided. The gas barbecue was easy to use. A table tennis table was fun. Our only suggestions for improvement would be: 1. To improve ease of cupboard and drawer opening in the kitchen and bedrooms…bit tricky presently as very few handles / push-click openers not all functioning…we used the kitchen a lot so found this a little awkward and hurt ourselves a few times in the process, particularly when using the kitchen drawers. 2. Eating in the kitchen/social area was perfectly fine and comfortable, but we would have enjoyed a table for outside drinks / dining, although understand if this may not be possible from the perspective of encouraging insects! 3. We found the sliding glass doors quite tough to get open / closed from near the frame, although actually sliding them was smooth and easy enough. 4. Providing some form of shade for sun loungers / a corner of the pool would be a pleasant addition!
