Description
A stay at Maison du Moulin will offer you the opportunity to enjoy the character and beauty of a traditional maison charentaise with exposed stone, beams and stone fireplaces, alongside the luxury of contemporary living. The house is situated in rural countryside, with vines and farm land and a 5 mins walk along the road from the small village of Rioux, which offers a shop/bar, butchers/delicatessen, pizzeria, playground, church, and a small weekly market. The house is set back from the road which has passing traffic from cyclists to combine harvesters!From the road, the house is reached through gates with parking for several cars and a covered ‘hangar’ for two cars or football/table tennis on a rainy day! The enclosed lawned gardens are surrounded by walls/hedges and extend to the front, side and rear and include a selection of fruit trees, mature trees, flower beds, a pond and a well.
The terrace faces the side/rear garden and is ideally located off the kitchen and is a great sun trap, it’s furnished with a large table/chairs, shade is provided by a retractable awning, umbrellas and the many trees in the garden. There is a built-in BBQ.
Further seating and sun loungers can be found round the heated 10m x 5m salt-water/low chorine pool (designed to be gentler on eyes/skin), with three steps and a graduated slope to 1.5m deep end.
There are several stone outbuildings, one being an old windmill – ‘moulin’.
A variety of games and equipment are available (pool table, table tennis table, badminton, boules, cricket bat/balls...). There is also a village play/games area/court across the road which guests can use.
On the left of the large entrance hall is the sitting room - TV/DVD, sofas, exposed stone, beams, stone fireplace and double doors to the rear terrace and windows to the front. Opposite is the dining room - large wooden table/seating for 8, exposed stone, beams, stone fireplace, windows to the front, leading through to the fitted kitchen. From there, onto the indoor games room - WC and laundry room - washing machine, ironing board/iron, clothes airer, plus exterior clothes line.
The bedrooms are reached by wooden stairs with wooden floors & electric fans.
Bedroom 1 – king bed (150 x 200 cm) and two windows to the front.
Bedroom 2 – large twin beds (105 x 190 cm) and one window to the front.
Bedroom 3 – king bed (150 x 200 cm) and one window to the rear.
Bathroom 1 (small step) has an amazing walk-in Hansgrohe Raindance shower, double sink stand, WC.
Bathroom 2 (small step) has an in-bath Hansgrohe shower, WC, single sink.
Beach towels are not included. Min. age of primary renter: 21. Parties/events not allowed.

Wonderful stay
By Roy Craft on 28-Aug-2026We have just returned from our stay at Maison De Moulin. The house and garden are lovely, and the owners have thought of everything to ensure that your stay is a good one. We spent many hours in and around the pool area and also in the games room which has something for everyone. When we could pull ourselves away from the property we visited Futurescope, Royan, St Georges De Didonne and we also booked a Velo ride at Andre de Lidon which was great fun. We have no hesitation in recommending this property and we would love to return in the near future
Wonderful return visit
By Megan on 07-Aug-2026We have just returned from our second stay at the Maison de Moulin and the house, garden and pool were just as wonderful as we remembered. The house is beautiful, incredibly comfortable (amazingly comfortable beds!) and well equipped and maintained. Our group (4 adults, a 10 year old and a 12 year old) found it very difficult to drag ourselves away from the stunning pool and garden, especially in the heat, but there is loads to do in the area. The Velorail in St Andre de Lidon, just a few minutes' drive away, is great for all ages, as are the caves in Meschers sur Gironde. Cognac, La Rochelle and Bordeaux are all short drives away and there are plenty of lovely beaches within half an hour. The pizzas from Chez Cocotte, the local pizzeria, are delicious and extremely good value, and there is an excellent supermarket a short drive away. I couldn't recommend Maison de Moulin more highly, and we are planning to return for a third visit!

By Lynn White on 19-Jun-2026Love this place so much we have just completed our 4th return visit to this lovely house The house is very well equipped , beautifully furnished and with a wonderful pool that was very very welcome during the heatwave of 41c! Francesca , the house manager was super helpful and friendly. The fields next to the house are planted with thousands of beautiful sunflowers which are stunning, with well maintained private gardens and pond making it a very peaceful and relaxing two weeks stay We have loved every year we have stayed here and are coming back again for our 5th visit next year
Another fabulous stay

We last stayed seven years ago and I was delighted to see that everything was still as fabulous and lovely as it was then. The house is very well equipped and beautifully maintained - I can’t think of anything that was lacking. The pool is a great size (and heated but still refreshing) and there are plenty of sun beds and comfy armchairs plus parasols. The outside dining area is gorgeous with a large table and retractable canopy for shade - a must in the heat of the day - it’s a lovely place to sit and listen to the frogs in the pond! Finally, Francesca, the property manager, was super helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you!
Fabulous property

The property and grounds are stunning and really well maintained. The pool was lovely and our children loved seeing the fish and frogs in the pond . We would certainly look to return in the future. Very happy to confirm that it was just as wonderful as we remembered it/ the house and grounds are stunning with a fabulous pool If you're looking for a fantastic property to stay in the beautiful French tranquil countryside, this is the place to go to. We are very pleased to have found this lovely place and would definitely go back to stay there again.
