Overview
Description
Lis de la Valée is a period perigord house dating as far back as 1594. It has been lovingly restored, to an exceptional standard retaining its historical beauty and charm, coupled with modern contemporary living. The house is set in the charming hamlet of Sauveboeuf which boarders the Bastille town of Lalinde (2 KM). There you can experience the culture, cafés, fine French cuisine and the hospitality of the locals. On Thursdays you can also enjoy a traditional French market, where the locals trade everything from fresh produce to antiques.
The property is within a 20 minute drive from Bergerac Airport. It benefits from a local shop, bar / restaurant (2 minute walk) and an intermarché (5 minute drive) where you can find a fresh meat and fish counter, a deli and a bakery. Sauveboeuf has a train station within walking distance, Bordeaux is approximately a 90 minute journey changing at Bergerac.
The ground floor of the property retains the beautiful sand and stone walls. The original oak beams were sourced from the disarmament of the French tall ship fleet. They were transported along the river canal system and sold to the wealthy land owners of the Dordogne region.
The sitting room has two large leather sofas, a fireplace with a log burner,Super fast fibre WIFI, SmartTV/streaming only and DVD with a collection of films. It has a limestone floor, castled windows and seats with views over the garden.
An Italian spiral staircase will lead you to the first floor. There are two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, each with a shower, toilet and hand-basin. The rooms are comfortably furnished and also feature the original exposed oak beams. The third double bedroom is self contained with access from the garden. It has an en-suite with shower, toilet and hand basin.
There are two additional put up beds, suitable for children, available on request.
The kitchen has the original 15th century fireplace and stone washery. It is fully equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge / freezer. It has a large table with six chairs and a center island with four stalls.
Leading off the kitchen there is a utility room with washing machine, toilet and hand basin.
The large garden, approximately 2/3 of an acre, mostly grass with a large patio area and path leading round the house to the third bedroom. There is a German made stone BBQ and a large outdoor table with six chairs to enjoy an early morning tea or evening drinks.
The property has an above ground swimming pool with a spacious decking area with six sun-loungers.
Whilst enjoying your stay in the stunning unspoiled region of south-west France there is a wide range of outdoor activities. Perfect for canoeing, kayaking, horse-riding and cycling enthusiasts. Golf courses and Tennis courts are available locally. The picturesque area will also provide the perfect backdrop for a walk or picnic along the breath-taking Dordogne river.

Wonderful location
By Nick and Sue Law on 15-Aug-2026The house is ideally situated within easy driving access of many of the attractions of the Dordogne region: canoeing on the river, Lascaux cave paintings, market towns and multiple vineyards. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. The pool and garden are ideal and the property is very private. The hamlet of Sauveboeuf is quiet and those living nearby very friendly. The shop within two minutes walk stocks an amazing array of products including several from the locality. If weather permits a walk along the canal into Lalinde (4km) is most enjoyable.

Wonderful and relaxing cottage
By Kevin Prior on 26-Jul-2025We had a great week here! The cottage was ideally sized and well equipped for a family of 4 (including 2 grown up children). It was great to have a pool, which we used very day, and there was plenty of space in the gardens. The kitchen was modern and well equipped, and all was clean comfortable. The village was quiet and friendly - a really convenient corner shop near by (but check the times!) and the real surprise was how great the restaurant/bar was at the nearby campsite - we ate there twice, and had takeaway pizza as well! The staff were so friendly! The location was a great base for visiting a range of attractions on the Dordogne - boat trips, cave visits and a troglodyte village!

A nice stay during really hot weather
By Steve and party on 07-Jun-2025Overall we had an enjoyable week and the weather was so hot it was unbearable at time. Late 30 centigrade every day which made night sleeping difficult. Fans were provided. Unusual to.have open bathrooms with each bedroom (first experience). Locally we used the corner shop for essentials and the eatery at the campsite. They were very friendly, the food we had was very good for a simple menu and good enough we made 2 visits Got a train to salart from mauzac not sauvebeauff. Inexpensive and a nice change from driving everywhere. Busy market day, plenty of eateries , 2 good experiences and a cathedral worth visiting. Also went to martel for a steam train ride, lalinde by walking from sauvebeuff limited eating as a bank holiday (always book for evenings). If we stayed at the house we made good use of the pool for keeping cool. A cracking thunderstorm knocked the regions power out overnight on the last night and hadn't been restored by the time we left in the AM but hopefully back in order for the next party to arrive
Fabulous house - peaceful place
By Julie B on 25-May-2025We loved this house and the way everything was so well thought through and comfortable. On really hot days the house was deliciously cool, and the garden was a delight - spacious and airy, with nice shade from the trees and a fab pool to dip into. The location is excellent too - there's a corner shop for essential supplies but you can also stroll along the canal into Lalinde for more. Altogether a delight.
Wonderful, Peaceful Escape
By Joanna Rose on 10-Jul-2023We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house. A true home from home, the owners have thought of everything to make your stay a delight. The pool and garden are ideal for families, and the well-stocked kitchen makes self catering easy. Easily within reach of many local towns and the Dordogne River, loads to do for families in the area, but also a perfect place to relax and unwind. The downstairs stays cool in the heat of summer, upstairs we appreciated the fans in every bedroom.
