Super property, super host, super break.
By Andrew Ainsley on 08-Aug-2026From the outset Tracy was a pleasure to work with, especially as there were some challenges to overcome due to our availability fluctuating. The property was perfect and our every need had been considered. The pool and space were godsends as temperatures soared. Tracy was exceptionally attentive and was always on hand if needed. Nothing was too much trouble. It’s a great base for exploring the Dordogne and away from the crowds. The night market in the village was a highlight for the whole family. For a meal out, Le Chien Vert in the neighbouring village was brilliant. We would definitely come back!

Gorgeous Dordogne property in peaceful location!
By Francesca on 25-Jul-2026We stayed at La Chataignier for a week at the end of July. Tracy is a welcoming and friendly host, in just the right way - she is very friendly and present when needed, unlike other hosts who can be intrusive or absent - just perfect! The property is beautiful! Surrounded by private woodland which has wild boar and deer, it is one of a couple of properties (all owned by Tracy and family) up a private driveway with gated entrance at the top which makes it feel really safe and private. La Chataignier itself is a gorgeous old barn converted to a lovely well-appointed three bedroom home, with: a large kitchen (with dining table and log burner); a cosy lounge area, with plenty of seating, a TV and another log burner; downstairs loo with shower; and then upstairs has a large landing with a double sofa bed, a double bedroom, two twin bedrooms and bathroom (all three bedrooms are a good size with plenty of space for clothes, etc). Outside there is loads of space including: a lovely dining area under a vine-covered pergola; a seating area with cafe table overlooking another aspect of the lovely gardens; a large pool area, with a lovely pool (just the right temperature for the summer heat, not too cool, not too warm) which I assume is UV treated as there was no chlorine smell at all which was lovely, another pergola poolside with outdoor sofa and chairs for shaded drinks, plus sun loungers; a boules area (naturellement!); a badminton area; a playground (with large trampoline, swings, slide and ping pong table); and a couple of hammocks under beautiful mature trees - all gorgeous! Even the lawn was extra special, as it had mint amongst the grass, so every step created a delicious minty fragrance! The property is situated on the edge a lovely village, and with reasonably easy access to most typical Dordogne attractions. We spent one day canoeing from Vitrac and also visited Chateaux Castelnaud - both highly recommended. All in all a wonderful and relaxing holiday!

Tranquility and Rustic Charm perfected. A wonderful taste of relaxed French living.
By Josephine McCarthy on 27-Jun-2026We have just returned from a truly wonderful stay at Le Châtaignier in Villefranche-du-Périgord and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcomed by our host, whose kindness, warmth and generosity made our holiday extra special. Nothing was too much trouble, and it was clear they genuinely wanted their guests to have the best possible experience. The gîte itself is a beautiful 16th-century property, full of rustic charm, character and history. It offers a real taste of relaxed French living whilst still providing everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We visited during the canicule, the French summer heatwave, and greatly appreciated the fans provided in every room. It was a thoughtful touch that made a significant difference during the exceptionally hot weather. One of our favourite things was simply spending time outside and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Waking each morning to the gentle hum of bees going about their work was incredibly calming, and throughout the day we were delighted by the beautiful butterflies fluttering through the garden, their wings displaying a stunning mosaic of colours in the sunshine. The wonderful private pool was another highlight of our stay. During the hot weather it provided the perfect place to cool off, relax and enjoy the stunning countryside setting. Having such a peaceful and private space to unwind made our holiday even more special. The setting is idyllic, with a sense of tranquillity that is increasingly rare to find. Whether enjoying a morning coffee, relaxing after a day of exploring the Dordogne, or sitting out in the evening beneath the stars, Le Châtaignier provided the perfect place to slow down, unwind and appreciate the beauty of the French countryside. For anyone looking to experience the authentic charm of rural France, combined with outstanding hospitality, a beautiful private pool and a wonderfully peaceful setting. Thank you again Tracy.

Le Chataignier
By Cynthia and John Nisbet on 30-Aug-2025A well equipped house on a quiet hill top. The house is only 10 walk (2 mins) drive from Villefranche du Perigord. Big garden with plenty of room for children's play and of course the superb private swimming pool. Lots of seating, to suit hot sunny weather as well as cool shady areas. The owners were attentive to our needs, supplying us with a bottle of local wine and a couple of treats. Plenty of car parking. Booking was easy, all done via email bank transfer etc and full directions supplied.

Another Excellent Holiday
By Will and Marg on 21-Jun-2025Having returned to this property for the last five years and having just read the latest, ridiculous review, we can't believe this person actually stayed there. Tracy is the most helpful, friendly host you could wish for. The property, pool and grounds are all beautifully kept and show a true, rural, French property at its very best. We will be back and highly recommend.
