Description
Grand PicThe gite is set in 8 acres of land in the glorious Aude countryside. Six adults can be accommodated. For larger groups we have a second gite, Petit Pic, sleeping four. We are in a rural location with no noise or light pollution save for the odd farm vehicle. By day you will hear the sounds of birdsong and on clear nights the stars are glorious.
We have a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool for guests' use.
The star attraction is the UNESCO world heritage site of Carcassonne, with many more Cathar castles in various states of repair within an hour's drive.
There are some beautiful walks, with possibilities for horse riding and cycling also close at hand. Canoeing and kayaking can be found on the river Aude, with activities for kids and teens at the lakes of Cavayere and Meribel.
We're also in the heart of the Languedoc wine country with plenty of tasting opportunities at local vineyards. And there's the famous Blanquette de Limoux, the local sparkling wine made by the traditional methode champenoise.
On Mondays the beautiful town of Mirepoix hosts its' weekly market. In July and August there are night markets in Limoux and Brezilhac also.
The Mediterranean coast is a 75 minute drive, as is the rose pink city of Toulouse with many interesting buildings as well as the Cite d'Espace and Airbus, for those interested in space exploration and aviation.
Grand Pic has three bedrooms, all located on the first floor consisting of one queen double, two singles and two bunk beds. We can also provide a cot for infants on request. Downstairs is an open plan sitting area, with a fully equipped kitchen and a large dining area with a table that will comfortably seat 6.
There is a family bathroom upstairs and an additional shower room on the ground floor. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
As well as the pool, there is a small games room with table tennis and darts. We also have swings and a trampoline in the garden for our younger guests.

The nearest airport is Carcassonne, served by Ryanair, 35 minutes away by car. As we are very rural, a car is essential.
20% deposit on booking, balance 8 weeks prior to arrival.
There is a cleaning fee and refundable security deposit.

By Christine M on 16-Jun-2026Grand Pic was clean, roomy and airy with fans provided - helpful on hotter nights. Ian was very helpful when our delayed train complicated our arrival plans, with other helpful suggestions eg markets suggested when we asked. We loved the peace and quiet of the area and abundant birdsong and wildlife. Citronella candles were a kind extra - we were glad of personal insect repellent! The pool provided a tranquil place to cool off with comfortable sunbeds and a welcome sunshade when the weather really warmed up. Pool and some other toys were available; children are clearly welcomed.The location was a good base to explore Toulouse, Carcassonne and the dramatic foothills of the Pyrenees; the scenery changed in quite a short distance. We found a good circular walk from nearby Hounoux with interesting information boards and spectacular mountain views both south and north - good for a cooler day.
