Description
Petit PicThe gite is set in 8 acres of land in the glorious Aude countryside. Four adults can be accommodated. For larger groups we have a second gite, Grand Pic, sleeping six. We are in a rural location with no noise or light pollution save for the odd farm vehicle. By day you will hear the sounds of birdsong and on clear nights the stars are glorious. We have a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool for guests' use.
The star attraction is the UNESCO world heritage site of Carcassonne, with many more Cathar castles in various states of repair within an hour's drive. There are some beautiful walks, with possibilities for horse riding and cycling also close at hand. Canoeing and kayaking can be found on the river Aude, with activities for kids and teens at the lakes of Cavayere and Meribel. We're also in the heart of the Languedoc wine country with plenty of tasting opportunities at local vineyards. And there's the famous Blanquette de Limoux, the local sparkling wine made by the traditional methode champenoise. On Mondays the beautiful town of Mirepoix hosts its' weekly market. In July and August there are night markets in Limoux and Brezilhac also. The Mediterranean coast is a 75 minute drive, as is the rose pink city of Toulouse with many interesting buildings as well as the Cite d'Espace and Airbus, for those interested in space exploration and aviation.
The gite is all on one level. It has an open plan sitting room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. There is also a front and rear terrace with outdoor furniture for al fresco dining. The master bedroom has a queen size double, with two single beds in the second bedroom. There is a family bathroom with a walk in shower.
As well as the pool, there is a small games room with table tennis and darts. We also have swings and a trampoline in the garden for our younger guests.

The nearest airport is Carcassonne, served by Ryanair, 35 minutes away by car. As we are very rural, a car is essential.
20% deposit on booking, with balance due 8 weeks prior to arrival. There is also a cleaning fee and security deposit required.

Pleasant and relaxing
By Cedric on 04-Aug-2025Spacious accommodation. Large, very functional rooms with storage. Bathroom with an Italian shower. Large living room with 2 terraces (front and back). Everything you need in the accommodation. Warm welcome from Ian. Very nice swimming pool with buoys for children. Ping table-pong with rackets and balls, darts. Outdoor toilet for the swimming pool (this prevents you from getting wet in the accommodation). Calm. Isolated dwelling. You have to drive a bit to find what you need (bread, meals, restaurant, fuel) but nothing dramatic. You just have to plan for it.

Not much negative to say. Just to say: it's a bit far from Carcassonne, but it allows you to enjoy the magnificent countryside
