Description

The House
This delightful stone farmhouse offers perfect accommodation for a family holiday in the south of France. The house has four bedrooms (2 x bedrooms each with a double king size bed; 1 x bedroom with full-size twin single beds; 1 bedroom x with two full-size single bunk beds), two bathrooms plus a further shower room/wc, large open plan kitchen/dining room, and a sitting room. There is a large shaded outdoor area for dining and relaxing, and a purpose-built barbecue.
The large (12m x 5m) heated swimming pool is for the exclusive use of the house and is very private. The pool is open from 1 May to 31 October.
In mid-summer the thick stone walls, wood shutters and high quality insulation maintain a cool temperature inside the house. All bedroom windows have screens.
We have fibre broadband to the house which provides very fast and reliable internet access and cable TV. UK TV channels are available via firestick. There is a high quality sound system in the kitchen/dining area with a bluetooth connection for you to stream your own audio.
On request we can provide a travel cot and a high chair for infants.
Parking for 3 - 4 cars.

Our immediate area
Mas des Costes is located along with a few other houses in a quiet, rural setting amongst vineyards . The house and garden are quite private and not overlooked. We have open views up the hill behind us towards woodland and over vineyards. The lane adjacent to our garden is a no through road and so the only traffic is by our neighbours up the hill.

The Region
Anduze, our local market town, is 10 minutes' away and offers supermarkets, a farmers' market every Thursday, a 'flea market' every Sunday, craft shops, restaurants, bars, etc. From Easter until the end of the summer there is a steam train which runs from Anduze up the beautiful Gardon valley to St. Jean du Gard.
There are local shops, including a wonderful bakery/patisserie, in Lézan, which is about seven minutes' away.
In the surrounding area, there are delightful country restaurants, craft centres, vineyards, and museums.

Activities
Mas des Costes is the ideal location for doing absolutely nothing while just lounging by the pool or under the pergola. But, for the more active, it is also the perfect base for hiking in the magnificent Cevennes National Park or the dramatic Gorges du Tarn., using the numerous waymarked trails where you can walk for miles without seeing another hiker.
Cyclists are only a few moments away from a local network of Voies Vertes (greenways converted from old railway lines) which provide over 40 kms of traffic-free cycle routes. Please see the map in our photo gallery. If you cannot bring your own bike there are several bike hire shops nearby.
Canoeing and river swimming is possible in many nearby locations.
Top quality golf courses are available near Nîmes, but we also have a charming nine-hole Par 3 course only 12 minutes away. at Golf Club Alès-Ribaute.
The Mediterranean coast is within one hour’s drive. The nearest resort is Le Grau du Roi which has long sandy beaches, and a lively old fishing port with excellent fish restaurants overlooking the water.
Nearby are the provençal towns of Avignon, Arles, and Nîmes. They are important centres for arts festivals and concerts throughout the summer months, possess splendid galleries, museums, and restaurants, and have some of the best preserved Roman buildings remaining anywhere. The Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard is also nearby.
Further afield, the Ardèche valley and the Camargue National Park are easily within a day’s expedition. The Camargue offers opportunities to explore the nature reserves with their flamingos, bulls, and white horses. The Rhône delta has miles of fine sandy beaches.

Glorious!

 By Antonia on 08-Aug-2026

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The house was wonderfully spacious for two families of 4, with lots of places to sit, relax and eat. The pool is massive and was a real highlight for everyone. It is really well located, we went to Anduze 3 or 4 times including for the night market and the bakery in Lezan almost every day! We also were easily able to do day trips down to the beach and to Nimes. Would definitely recommend it, and return for another visit! Book it - you won't regret it!

Superbe semaine dans cette belle maison

 By Laetitia on 15-Aug-2026

 By Sarah on 01-Jun-2026

A beautiful house with four large bedrooms and a bathroom on both floors. Spacious living room with ample comfortable seating. There is a large dining area in the kitchen that opens out to the garden which is lovely but for us the best thing about the house was the equally large covered outside dining area and the large swimming pool which also had a sheltered area to sit. The location for us was ideal, close to a great bakery in Lezan and very close to Anduze and a supermarket, but in a quiet rural setting. We like cycling and the house was very near cycle routes (Voie Vertes), but local road riding was very enjoyable, with good road surfaces, not much traffic and very varied scenery from open undulating countryside to the more mountainous Cevennes National park with spectacular views.

Return visit

 By Julian Cousins on 15-Jul-2023

We were lucky enough to win a charity auction kindly donated by the owner Malcolm. Unfortunately Covid hit but our reservation remained valid until we were able to travel. The pre travel information provided was excellent and although the villa is in a quiet rural location, it was easy to find and access. The villa itself is well appointed with all the necessary comforts including wifi which my teenage daughters considered essential! It is spacious and comfortable with well appointed bedrooms. The pool was superb and became the family hub. We enjoyed our stay so much we rebooked. Again a lovely stay, just a very easy place to relax and unwind. The second time I took my bicycle and took numerous routes to the local towns and beyond. Highly recommended for cyclists. Local shops are a car ride away but there are quality local markets and the town of Anduze has every thing you need, including some very decent restaurants. If you''re looking for a place to unwind and relax, go for country walks, explore the nearby towns, this is the place for you. I highly recommended it and would return.

Brilliant pool

 By Deborah E on 22-Aug-2015

We thoroughly enjoyed our week''s stay at Mas de Costas and wish it could have been for longer. We had a very relaxing time - there was plenty of space and everything a family would need both inside and outside - very well equipped and well presented. The large pool and surround were brilliant - allowing us to cool down, sunbathe and exercise at our leisure. The surrounding area is lovely. Anduze the nearest town has some interesting corners and the local countryside is idyllic - great for walking or just admiring. We really look forward to our return!
