Overview
Description
A Hidden Gem in Southwest France Where Small Families Create Big MemoriesThere is something rather special about discovering a place that feels as though it was created specifically for you.
Not a busy holiday resort filled with hundreds of guests.
Not a generic rental property furnished from a catalogue.
But somewhere personal.
Somewhere authentic.
Somewhere that instantly feels like home.
Nestled in the rolling countryside of southwest France, less than an hour south of Toulouse and on the edge of the beautiful Fabas Forest, Gite31 offers exactly that. Set within more than an acre of landscaped gardens and blessed with uninterrupted countryside views, this charming two-bedroom property has been designed for couples, small families and friends who want something more memorable than a standard holiday rental.
From the moment guests arrive, they quickly realise that Gite31 is not just somewhere to sleep. It is somewhere to relax, reconnect, recharge and experience a different pace of life.
The Perfect Location
One of Gite31's greatest strengths is its location.
The property sits in the peaceful village of Salherm in the Haute-Garonne region of Occitanie. Here, the roads are quiet, the skies seem bigger, and life moves at a gentler rhythm.
Wake early and you'll hear birdsong rather than traffic.
Step outside after breakfast and you'll be greeted by open countryside, beautiful woodland and magnificent views stretching across the landscape. The pool area enjoys sunshine throughout the day and becomes a favourite gathering spot every evening as the sun slowly sets over the surrounding hills. Guests consistently mention the sunsets, and once you've experienced them for yourself it is easy to understand why.
Yet despite its peaceful rural setting, Gite31 is far from isolated.
The historic market towns of Aurignac and L'Isle-en-Dodon are nearby and provide supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies and all the practical facilities visitors may need during their stay. Toulouse, often known as the Pink City, is less than an hour away with its wonderful restaurants, vibrant markets, aerospace attractions and world-famous rugby culture. The Pyrenees mountains are within easy reach, offering endless opportunities for walking, cycling, sightseeing and outdoor adventure.
Whether your ideal holiday involves exploring medieval villages, climbing mountain passes, enjoying long lunches in village squares or simply reading beside the pool, Gite31 provides the perfect base.
The Accommodation
Originally refurbished to a high standard and thoughtfully updated throughout, Gite31 combines traditional French charm with modern comforts.
The property is designed for up to six guests and provides generous accommodation that feels spacious, light and welcoming. Every room has been carefully considered to create an atmosphere that is both stylish and comfortable. Bespoke soft furnishings, many handmade by Rachel herself, create a feeling of individuality rarely found in holiday rentals.
The Master Bedroom - The Cotswolds
The master bedroom provides a calm and relaxing retreat after a day exploring the region. Beautifully furnished and thoughtfully equipped, it benefits from its own ensuite shower room, ensuring privacy and convenience. Premium cotton bed linen, blackout curtains and carefully selected décor help create a restful environment where guests can enjoy genuinely peaceful nights.
The Twin Bedroom - The Topiary
The second bedroom offers flexibility for families and friends. Whether used as a twin room for children or adjusted for adult guests, the room continues the theme of comfort and practicality found throughout the property. Its proximity to a spacious family shower room makes it ideal for younger visitors.
Living Space
The double height living room with exposed beams is one of the gîte's most inviting features.
Characterful yet practical, it combines traditional charm with modern entertainment. A wood-burning stove creates a cosy atmosphere during cooler evenings, while satellite television, PlayStation facilities and streaming options ensure there is something to entertain every member of the family. For larger groups or occasional additional guests, the double sofa bed provides extra sleeping accommodation. Anyone needing to catch up on a little work whilst away can sit at the desk and benefit from the fast fibre broadband.
Kitchen and Dining
The fully equipped kitchen provides everything required for a comfortable self-catering holiday. Whether preparing a lazy breakfast, a family barbecue feast or simply chilling a local bottle of wine, guests have all the facilities necessary to enjoy France's wonderful food culture.
The Swimming Pool
Let's be honest.
Many people book Gite31 because of the pool.
And with good reason.
The large heated swimming pool is one of the property's standout attractions and offers guests exclusive use throughout their stay. Surrounded by sun loungers and open countryside views, it quickly becomes the centrepiece of family life during the holiday. Children can spend hours playing while adults relax with a book or simply soak up the sunshine.
As evening approaches, the pool takes on a completely different atmosphere. Gentle lighting, warm air and magnificent sunsets transform it into a tranquil setting for a pre-dinner swim or an evening glass of wine.
The Hot Tub Experience
If the pool is the star attraction during the day, the hot tub steals the show at night.
After exploring local villages, cycling forest trails or simply spending a lazy day by the pool, there are few greater pleasures than relaxing in warm bubbling water under a sky filled with stars. Combined with the extraordinary peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside, it becomes one of those holiday moments guests remember for years afterwards.
Space to Explore
What truly differentiates Gite31 from many holiday cottages is the amount of outdoor space available.
The property sits within extensive grounds featuring lawns, mature trees, hidden quiet spots and spectacular views. Children have room to run freely and safely. Adults have plenty of opportunities to find a peaceful corner and simply enjoy the surroundings. Swings, hammocks and shaded areas provide relaxing alternatives to the poolside sun.
The famous "View" is particularly popular. At the end of the day, guests gather with a glass of local wine and watch the colours change across the landscape as the sun disappears behind the distant countryside. It is simple, authentic and wonderfully relaxing.
The Clubhouse
Most gîtes offer accommodation.
Very few offer their own clubhouse.
One of Gite31's most distinctive features is its dedicated recreation area, complete with table tennis, darts, games and activities for children. It provides a fantastic space for family competitions, rainy-day entertainment or simply somewhere different to hang out.
The clubhouse reflects the personality of the property itself: fun, relaxed and designed around spending quality time together.
Remote Working in Paradise
Increasingly, guests want the ability to combine leisure and work.
Gite31 is particularly well equipped in this regard.
Fast Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace mean visitors can comfortably work remotely while enjoying all the benefits of rural France. A morning video call can be followed by an afternoon beside the pool. It is a balance that many visitors find irresistible.
Meet Simon and Rachel
Of course, buildings and facilities only tell part of the story.
The real heart of Gite31 is Rachel and Simon.
After years of holidaying throughout France, they made the life-changing decision to move permanently and create the sort of guest experience they had always wanted to find themselves. The result is a property that feels authentic because it genuinely is.
Rachel is the creative force behind much of what guests see. Her passion for interiors and design is evident throughout the property. Many of the bespoke furnishings have been handmade specifically for Gite31, ensuring every room feels unique. Her love of gardening is equally apparent in the grounds, which provide colour, texture and beauty throughout the seasons.
Simon, meanwhile, brings humour, energy and practical know-how. Self-described as chief handyman and enthusiastic rugby fan, he is often found maintaining the property, helping guests with local recommendations or sharing the occasional glass of wine while discussing life in France, Formula 1 or rugby.
Together you both strike exactly the right balance.
Available when needed.
Invisible when privacy is preferred.
Friendly without being intrusive.
Professional without being formal.
Why Guests Return
People rarely return year after year simply because a property has a nice pool.
They return because of how a place makes them feel.
Gite31 succeeds because it offers something increasingly rare in modern travel: authenticity.
Guests enjoy beautiful accommodation, stunning scenery, excellent facilities and a genuine welcome. Children make memories that last a lifetime. Parents finally get the chance to slow down and relax. Couples rediscover quiet mornings and peaceful evenings together.
In short, Gite31 delivers the holiday experience people hope for but seldom find.
A private retreat in the French countryside.
A place of sunsets, laughter, swimming pools and star-filled skies.
A place created with care.
A place where small families make their biggest memories. ️

Exceptional
By Michaela Brethauer on 01-Jun-2025We have really enjoyed staying in this house. It's clean and you can tell it has been decorated with love and care. The garden is lovely and very well kept up with. It has a beautiful view of the hills where we have enjoyed quite a few sunsets. The pool was great too, as it was really hot so this provided a comfortable and fun way to cool down. The hospitality was great and made us feel right at home. We have had an amazing holiday here and would recommend this place to everyone!
Exceptional
By Martin Mulder on 01-May-2026We had a truly fantastic holiday. Every morning we woke up to the gentle sound of cowbells, which immediately set the tone for a peaceful day. We were lucky with the weather too — around 30°C every day — making it perfect for relaxing and exploring. The gîte is beautifully located and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The view is absolutely breathtaking. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they clearly take great pride in maintaining the property. The surrounding area is perfect for long walks, and the heated pool was a real highlight: wonderfully warm, impressively large, and always spotless. Behind the scenes, the owners make sure it stays clean at all times. Our dog also had the time of his life in the spacious garden. We would love to return here again to relax, unwind, and enjoy the stunning scenery and peaceful surroundings.
Fantastic
By Iris Schoenmaker on 01-Sep-2025We had a wonderful holiday thanks to Rachel and Simon, who provided us with all sorts of recommendations. Communication was excellent, and we felt very welcome from the start. The accommodation is beautiful and has a lovely pool and hot tub. We especially loved the view of the hills and the sunset in the evening. We will definitely be back.
A wonderful week in rural France
By Anna Kirby on 03-Jun-2024Our whole family really enjoyed our stay at Gite31. The views are fabulous, the pool warm enough to swim in all weathers, the gite is very well-equipped and the wood burner was most welcome on the cooler days. Our daughters loved the pool, the swing and the PlayStation and we enjoyed the stunning sunsets, the games and the Netflix access. The bikes were also very well-maintained and allowed us to explore the area fully. We found some fabulous restaurants nearby and so lovely to have views of the Pyrenees on our trips out. Thanks to Simon and Rachel for all the comms before and during our week. Shout out for the chickens too and their delicious eggs. Highly recommended.
Great gite, lovely location
By Trish Robers on 18-Oct-2022Simon and Rachel couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. The gite was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The garden was just right for us and our dog. And the views and sunsets stunning.
Beautiful gite, superb guests
By Helen Larkin on 19-Aug-2022We enjoyed a wonderful summer break at Gîte 31! Absolutely everything we needed was provided (and more besides!) and our hosts, Rachel and Simon were very friendly and welcoming. The location was perfect for us; lovely and quiet, but towns and villages are within easy driving distances. We enjoyed some wonderful day trips (eg San Sebastian, Lourdes ) but we could have just stayed at the gîte and enjoyed the gorgeous large pool every single day. The clubhouse with games provided was great fun, and when the sun went down after a day sunbathing, the sunsets were magical. Everything was lovely and clean - the pool in particular was kept spotless. So many memories made, and lots of relaxation had - we would highly recommend.
