A Little Bit About Hastings

Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet and their distinctive black huts, Britain's steepest funicular railway and the remains of William the Conqueror's first English castle mean that Hastings & St Leonards is already known throughout the world as one of the South Coast's most historic towns. 

Despite being famous for being the birthplace of television it is not stuck in the past and is being recognized for its culture and innovation. Hastings hosts the Coastal Currents Arts Festival and it has opened University Centre and is beginning to challenge its neighbour Brighton and even London with its hive of cultural activity. The Old Town with its three miles of beautiful beaches are a bonus. The seafront is recognized for its many illuminations including the mysterious marine monolith 'Stream' and the iconic 'Sticks of Rock'. Hastings Country Park has one of the UK's most spectacular clifftop panoramas together with a host of unique and rare wildlife species.

Hastings has a world fishery that’s celebrated every year in the town’s Seafood and Wine Festival. It would be remiss if failing to mention the infamous 1066 battle as its one of the most famous marks in the UK’s history. You can learn all about it in the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery.
