The House of Laroque

The House of Laroque is a ground floor flat in a detached villa with private garden and swimming pool, which can accommodate up to 5 people in two bedrooms in the great little town of Laroque-des-Albères with the Pyrenees in the background, fiften minutes drive from beaches of the Mediterranean.


The House of Laroque sits in a quiet residential street just outside the old medieval town of Laroque-des-Albères. The ground-floor flat is perfect for all holidays: lounging by the pool, days at the beach, hiking and biking, nature and historical visits.

Local shops (baker, butcher, groceries) are within a ten minute walk; there is a village market on Wednesday mornings; a large supermarket (Carrefour) is ten minutes’ drive away.

Laroque-des-Albères has numerous excellent restaurants and bars, most of which have outside dining areas, as well as several high-quality takeaway outlets.

The village is a perfect base for cycling, hiking, or mountain biking in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

A huge variety of beaches are close by: the long, wide sandy beaches of Argelès-Plage and Le Racou are fifteen minutes' drive away, unless you prefer the beachfront towns of Coullioure (20 minutes drive) or Saint-Cyprien (25 minutes drive). A visit to the historical town of Coullioure, immortalised by Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy, Chagall, Marquet, and many other artists is a must. The Côte Vermeille, stretching from Argèles to Banyuls-sur-Mer is dotted with small coves perfect for swimming and lounging.

The valleys of the Pyrenees with epic landscapes, historical sites are just 30 minutes drive away. We recommend a day trip on the “Petit Train jaune” from Villefrance-des-Conflents (1 hour’s drive away), which takes you on an dramatic train ride through the Pyrenees and back.

Or visit the historical cities of Spanish Catalunya: Figueres (45 mins), Girona (1 hour)) and Barcelona (2 hours drive, or better, 1 hour train ride from Figueres) or the Cathar country sites (Carcassone, and the Cathar castles, all within 90 minutes drive).

The flat is located on the ground floor of the house, and consists of:

* Bedroom (one double and one single bed) off the hallway
* Kitchen / lounge off the hallway with double door leading to the outside paved patio.
* Bathroom (toilet, basin, shower cubicle)
* Master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (walk-in shower, basin, toilet).
* Outside paved patio area accessible straight from the kitchen, perfect for al fresco breakfast, lunch, and supper, with direct access to the swimming pool area.
* Access to utilities area with washing machine in garage from the hallway.

The House of Laroque can sleep up to 5 people; an excellent choice for two couples or a family with children.

Bed linen and sets of towels are included.

The House of Laroque's facilities include:
* Fully equipped kitchen / lounge (refrigerator / freezer, dish washer, oven, separate microwave oven, toaster, kettle, espresso machine, induction hob, dining table), with all utensils.
* High-speed (fibre) internet with excellent wifi coverage.
* Flat screen television with Orange set-top box, (French channels only; Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime apps installed, but guests will need to use their own accounts (do not forget to log off when leaving) and Blu-Ray player..
* Washing machine and outside rotary dryer.
* Kettle charcoal barbecue.

Outdoor swimming pool (unheated, 7 m by 3.5m; 1.5 m deep) in private garden, with electrically-operated security cover. Sun loungers and garden furniture (tables, chairs) are included.

Parking : parking space for one car in the driveway as well as plentiful and easy on-street parking.

The top floor of the house is accessible only to the owners (and will never be occupied when the ground floor flat is rented.)
The property is not suitable for EV recharging ; there are three EV recharging stations within a 3.5 km range.

Check-ins on Saturday; access to property will be communicated prior to the visit.

We strongly recommend that you have a car as public transport to and from the village is very limited. Car rental agencies abound at all airports and train stations.

The village is a 12 hour drive from Calais or Brussels (via Lyon).

Airports: Perpignan (40 minutes drive), Girona (1 hour drive), Carcassone (1h30) mins drive), Béziers (1h30 minutes drive) Montpellier (2 hours drive), Barcelona (2 hours drive), Toulouse (2h30 mins drive)

Trains: High-speed connections into Perpignan station (30 mins drive).

Drive: 20 minutes drive from exit 43 (Le Boulou) on the A9 motorway.

All bookings are subject to confirmation by the owner.
Bookings more than 8 weeks in advance: 25% of rent, plus 250 GBP refundable deposit. Balance due at the latest 8 weeks before arrival date.
Bookings less than 8 weeks in advance: 100% of rent, plus 250 GBP refundable deposit.
Cancellation fees: Up to 4 weeks in advance: full reimbursement; 1-3 weeks: 75% of rent and deposit reimbursed; less than 1 week : 50% of rent and deposit reimbursement.
Payments accepted in GBP and EUR.
