Your first glimpse of the Olhao Town House will make your heart beat that little faster. This gloriously restored blue painted 4 storey home nestles majestically in the centre of the vibrant fishing town of Olhao in Portugal’s Eastern Algarve.

Originally built in 1850, and beautifully restored by a renowned furniture designer, the house sits across 4 floors with three terraces, three kitchens and two living rooms – making it perfect for multi-generational families or groups of friends. There is a plunge pool on the top terrace with stunning views across the town towards the sea. This is where you will spend most of your time. We can provide a local chef for spoiling meals or a yoga instructor for a class on the terrace.

The living room on the ground floor has its own terrace and leads out into the town, whereas the main living on the first floor has full height ceilings and squashy sofas to sink into. Works of art and local pottery catches your eye.

There are a total of 7 bedrooms (and 5 bathrooms) – most of the beds are zip and link and so work as Kings or Twins. Spoiling toiletries are provided. . Some lead directly onto one of the courtyards and others directly onto the cobbled streets - although the house sits in the middle of the town, even the ground floor bedrooms give a feeling of calm and relaxation.

The two main terraces are designed for al-fresco dining – one has comfy sofas and a wood burning stove for winter stays, whereas the top terrace has a huge dining table under the shade of a bamboo canopy. The kitchen on the top terrace is set up just for BBQ’s. There is an additional courtyard off the ground floor with potted palms and shade from the midday sun.

Stroll the whitewashed streets to an array of local restaurants or wander down to the quayside to catch a ferry to the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. Here, barrier islands are fringed by pristine golden-sand beaches and protect calm lagoons. Visit the famous 1915 waterfront market for just-caught seafood and fresh Portuguese produce. For those wanting to explore the local area, hop onto the train which goes as far as the Spanish border for a couple of euros.
