Description
This beautiful unspoilt area of the Silver Coast was featured in February 2025 Channel 4’s A New Life in the Sun. Casa dos Pomares in Capeleira, a couple of minutes from Obidos; beautiful very spacious, comfortable and peaceful family villa, sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 en-suite plus large family bathroom). Secluded and not overlooked, traditional single storey build, amidst spectacular panoramic views over Obidos, the coast/Obidos lagoon and countryside. The villa is extremely well equipped, furnished to a high standard with a mix of locally made furniture and fittings and some locally sourced antiques, solar panels, underfloor geo-thermal heating and air cooling system in three bedrooms (master, twin and den bedrooms). The well equipped open plan kitchen with dishwasher, fan oven and halogen hob (n.b. guests with pacemakers) , living and dining area opens out with double French windows on two aspects onto amazing views across the valleys, farmland and vineyards and down over Obidos, the castle and lagoon, large landscaped lawn and garden, ideal for children, extensive fruit trees (guests can help themselves to peaches, plums, apricots, figs, apples, pears, avocados, depending on the time of year!), verandahs, decking, BBQ, outside dining and private solar heated pool (note, solar heating dependant on weather!). Separate indoor family games area with table tennis, snooker table (not full sized), magnetic darts. Please see diagram of house layout. Loads to see and do, whatever the weather and time of year; tiled floors throughout with underfloor heating and log fire making this an ideal location for out of season too. Travel cot & highchair can be provided on request. Welcome food pack also available on request. Linen provided (except beach and face towels) and mid clean for stays of 14 nights or more. 15/20 mins beaches, many signposted nature walks, golf. 5 mins drive from and overlooking medieval World Heritage walled town & castle of Obidos with annual Christmas, Medieval, chocolate, literary and opera festivals, restaurants, tapas bars, 'Pingo Doce' and ‘Continente’ supermarkets and public indoor swimming pool. Nearest excellent restaurant 8 mins walk from villa.
The villa is also within easy reach historic towns of Sintra, Mafra, Lourinha Dinosaur & new Lego park & Alcobaca, (don't miss the peaceful and beautiful 'Buddha Eden' near the Sanguinhal vineyard, approx. 20 mins drive), Bambilocas children’s farm & activity centre in nearby Bombarral, vineyards, excellent local restaurants, nearby golf courses, Peniche & Baleal with major surfing events and surf schools, wide sandy beaches including Bom Successo/Aldeia dos Pescadores and Foz do Arelho either side of the Obidos and Foz do Arelho lagoons with fishing, cycling, paddle boarding, horse riding, water sports and sailing school, reached through beautiful pine & eucalyptus forests, karting & old spa town of Caldas da Rainha with traditional markets, shops, supermarkets (Aldi, Lidl, Intermarche, LeClerc, Mercadona & Pingo Doce), park with boating lake and tennis, thermal baths, art gallery, museums, library, theatre and bullring, as well as cinema and bowling and the famous Bordallo Pinheiro ceramics workshop.
Clear blue skies much of the year. Winters are mild with daytime temperatures averaging 63°F; 80F in summer, enjoying almost 275 sunshine days a year. Spring and autumn are peaceful; blossom in the spring, soft fruits in May & June with the apples, pears, figs and avocados ripening in the orchard in the autumn.

Beautiful views
By Karen on 12-Sep-2026This 4 bed bungalow is just outside Obidos set up on a hill with a beautiful view of lagoon at Foz and the Obidos castle. Because it is high up, it can get a bit windy but it is definitely worth it. The sunsets are spectacular. The pool is solar heated. We went mid September and pool was lovely and warm. It is set in fruit orchard and depending on the season you have free access to figs, avocado, apples, peaches and more. The house itself is large and well set out. We found the beds slightly too firm for us but some people prefer that. There are two en-suites and a main bathroom with a bath. There is plenty of hot water and the water pressure is phenomenal. The kitchen has plenty of crockery, cutlery and pots. There was also condiments and coffee. The property manager Salome also got us a few bits as we arrived late afternoon. The sofa was large and comfortable. We did struggle to get British tv but finally managed to get our own Netflix account on there. There is WiFi there and it worked well. The owners are very helpful in recommending places to go, and restaurants, and also responded very quickly when we had an issue with the pool cover. The driveway is huge, and there is a garage with some games etc which we did not use. On the whole we had a lovely and relaxing week. Weather was superb. The house did smell a bit foisty and mentioned in previous reviews. It soon goes once doors and windows are open.

Could do better!
By John Day on 08-Aug-2026After collecting our hire cars at Lisbon airport we followed the owners instructions and rang the agent Salome. We were told the villa had already been cleaned and it was fine for us to proceed directly to the villa, albeit about an hour early. On arrival we let ourselves into the property and were very disappointed to find that the place smelled very musty. There were mould blotches on the wooden panelled ceiling in the main room and in the oven there were rusty baking trays still with food on them! Cleaning standards were obviously well below our own expectations. The owners response to our complaints, which were supported by photographs, was less than conciliatory. Leave the property within 24 hours for a full refund!! Where would be find alternative accommodation at the peak of the holiday season? Once doors and windows were opened the smell dissipated, but was there again when we returned from a day away from the villa. The games room was also a bit of a joke. A small dilapidated pool/snooker table, a table tennis table with only 1 serviceable bat and a single split ball. The dart board was magnetic! There were badminton racquets, but only half a shuttlecock to play with. On the positive side, the villa was in an elevated and isolated position but with superb views to Obidos and the coast. The pool was a good size and well maintained and the solar heating system kept it very warm. There were several sun loungers with padded covers. The villa was also very spacious but the air cooling system did little to cool the bedrooms at night and one double bedroom was not linked to the system. It will also only be switched on if you request it! Many of the towels provided were very thin and some bed linen was very stained. The general area was interesting to visit with Nazare our favourite place. Obidos is very pretty but usually very busy with tourists on day trips. We enjoyed our holiday, despite the issues, but would not return to this accommodation.

Whilst your review was accepted by SimplyOwners, following our very lengthy telephone conversation with you to discuss the points you raised, particularly those we considered unfair and a couple blatantly untrue, it would seem that nothing would have made you happy and it was a great pity you did not choose to raise some of these particularly petty issues whilst you were staying in our villa which would have given us the opportunity to rectify and/or explain, rather than wait 10 days after your return and get it all off your chest in a vindictive review
Wonderful holiday in spacious clean well maintained villa with pool
By Liz Butler on 29-Aug-2026Excellent very well equipped villa and pool ; very clean and spacious; well looked after inside and out with beautiful setting amid fruit trees / apple orchard and fig and avocado tree.Views of nearby castle in Obidos and Obidos lagoon in distance . Great showers with good water pressure . Highly recommend. Loved the surrounding areas and towns such as Tomar and easy daytrip to Lisbon either by driving or busride .

Beautiful stay

Summer holiday with family at Lovely Villa

The villa was a fantastic base to explore the local towns and countryside and numerous beach’s . The owners and local host were very easy to deal with and supportive .

Beautiful, comfortable, relaxing and fun
By Charles family on 07-Jul-2026We loved every minute of our 10 days here. The younger ones were in the lovely, warm pool every day. Rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and really well furnished. We had everything we needed, and more. Table tennis was also very much enjoyed. The Casa is in a great location with gorgeous gardens and a lovely view. We enjoyed watching the swifts dart over the pool in the morning. Obidos is only a few minutes' easy drive away, as are two supermarkets, and the Casa was easy to get to from Lisbon. The hosts and their local agent organised things really well and were really helpful. It all made for a relaxing, chilled, special family holiday.
