Some places are simply somewhere to stay. Others have a character of their own. Skylight Loft is one of those places.

Set on the top floor of a historic building in the very heart of Porto’s UNESCO World Heritage historic centre, Skylight Loft is surrounded by centuries of history. Porto Cathedral stands just across the square, while inside, the atmosphere of an old Porto house meets generous open spaces, contemporary comfort and a very personal collection of art and furnishings.

At the heart of the loft is the large skylight that gave it its name, filling the living space with natural light and creating an ever-changing connection with the sky above.

The loft is a spacious and distinctive retreat for two. The open-plan living area brings together comfortable seating, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen, while carefully chosen furniture, paintings and objects collected over the years give the space warmth, character and individuality.

One of the loft’s most treasured pieces is the antique baby grand piano, which has been in our family for more than 100 years. The piano is tuned annually and guests who know how to play are very welcome to enjoy it. As it is a much-loved antique instrument, we simply ask that it is treated with the care and respect its age deserves.

The bedroom offers a king-size bed and a calm, comfortable atmosphere. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, and the loft is equipped with air conditioning and everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Perhaps the greatest luxury is outside. The private terrace looks across the rooftops of Porto towards the Cathedral and the historic city beyond. It is a wonderful place for breakfast in the morning light, a quiet afternoon above the streets, or a glass of wine as the city changes colour towards evening.

Location & Surroundings

Skylight Loft places you right in the heart of Porto’s UNESCO World Heritage historic centre. Step outside and you are immediately among some of the city’s oldest streets and monuments, with Porto Cathedral just across the square, São Bento Station only a few minutes away on foot and the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge just a stone’s throw away.

Much of Porto can be discovered simply by walking from the loft: wander down through the historic streets to the Ribeira and the Douro riverfront, cross the Dom Luís I Bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia and its famous Port wine lodges, or explore Clérigos, Livraria Lello and the many squares, viewpoints and hidden corners of the old town.

Restaurants, traditional cafés, small shops and many of Porto’s best-known sights are all within walking distance, making a car unnecessary for exploring the city.

Skylight Loft is not an anonymous holiday apartment. It is a home with history, art and character, in one of Porto’s most remarkable settings. For guests who appreciate beautiful spaces and places with a story, we hope it will feel as special as it does to us.
