Description

A little bolt hole in a courtyard setting in the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon. Close proximity to Plymouth. This self contained annexe, detached from our house is in a courtyard setting. It offers an oasis of rural calm despite only being 15 minutes away by car from Plymouth City Centre. A mile south of Brixton village with it's great local pub The Foxhound (superb food and real ales) and a few minutes drive from a farm shop in one direction and main stream food stores and a Post Office in the other. A car is necessary.
One quaint bedroom in the roof space with adjoining bathroom - sink, toilet and shower. Downstairs is a cosy lounge with log burner and TV. A basket of logs will be provided with more available on request. Small separate utility room with a freezer and washing machine and an understairs cupboard for storing luggage. The kitchen/dining area in the conservatory is well equipped with a small dishwasher, a table for two and seating looking out onto the patio. Doors lead out to this paved area with table and chairs and BBQ. There is also a small south facing garden, both are lovely secluded spots and are a great place to enjoy a sundowner.
There are so many opportunities for hiking locally, not only in the beautiful South Hams countryside but also on the spectacular coastal paths and rugged Dartmoor, that you'll be spoilt for choice. Walking directly from the Dovecote there are a few pretty walks alongside the Yealm Estuary, we feel very blessed to live here! There are many beaches within a relatively short drive. Wembury beach (10 minutes away) is a rockpooling haven with it's cafe serving hot drinks and pasties. Mothecombe beach (approx a 15 minute drive) has two areas; Coastguards and Mothecombe. Next to the beach car park is The Schoolhouse restaurant. In a converted Victorian primary school it is quirky and offers a great breakfast (amongst other things) possibly after a morning swim? Slightly further afield are the surfing beaches of Bigbury and Bantham. The twin villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo on the Yealm estuary are a 15 minute drive and as well as offering a stunning 4 mile circular coastal walk they have 3 great pubs between them. We think they give the renowned Helford estuary a run for it's money. Plymouth City has much to offer - full of fascinating maritime history; The Spanish Armada, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh and The Mayflower. No trip to Plymouth is complete without spending time on The Hoe, the Barbican and The Royal William Yard, all of which clearly evoke Plymouth's maritime past. An indoor shopping Centre, many restaurants and The Box, the City's award winning museum and art gallery are all waiting to be enjoyed. Combine this with The Dovecote's close proximity to lovely market towns, Dartmoor and the border with Cornwall, what can we say? A wonderful place to holiday!
