Offering the best of both worlds, it also has popular Lake District attractions within a short drive, including some beautiful beaches and a little steam train to the coast. Very well equipped and full of comfy sofas, books and games, it's ideal for both family holidays and romantic getaways.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, and two twins with beautiful brass beds along with two bathrooms. Downstairs you have a fabulous, large farmhouse kitchen, a snug with open fire and desk, and a large sitting room with library and TV with Sky TV and Netflix. Large glass doors open onto a terrace with a magnificent view to the mountains. There is also a downstairs shower with loo downstairs, next to a utility room.

Happy guests from the USA!

By Miriam on 09-Sep-2021

High Ground Cottage is stunningly beautiful: the vistas of the fells are glorious, the house absolutely lovely, and the environment atmospheric and romantic. The house is very gracious and perfectly accommodated our 3 generation family holiday as did the garden and patio area that overlooked Scafell Pike. The sheep that grazed in the fields from the neighboring farm were a delightful complement! We thoroughly enjoyed our many walks, especially to a nearby waterfall and lake. The host, Candy, was exceptional in every regard and made our stay very memorable.

Wonderful location

By Clare on 18-Aug-2021

High Ground is set in a truly wonderful location. You can see amazing views to the Scafells in the distance. It is remote but means you really get away from it all and we even saw a hare in the garden on a couple of mornings. The cottage is well equipped and decorated. It worked well for 8 of us with a large kitchen and 3 bathrooms. There are lovely walks from the cottage one to Stanley Ghyll waterfall and then on to Boot. The little shop in Eskdale Green is well stocked for anything you forget. Would thoroughly recommend a stay at High Ground to anyone who loves the countryside.

A perfect escape

By GrandTour626987 on 11-Jul-2021

High Ground has the most perfect location; up above Eskdale, with panoramic mountain views from the house and garden. We watched hares chasing each other in the surrounding fields. We heard a cuckoo a couple of times; lots of bird song and the sound of sheep but there was nothing else to spoil the peace and quiet. There's a beautiful and easy walk down Stanley Ghyll to Eskdale with the chance to have a pint at one of the two pubs in Boot without having to drive back. The house is lovely; comfortable and with plenty of space. The kitchen with its big central table was a great place for family meals in the evening after a day spent walking. If you're looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful as a base for walking and climbing or just soaking up the serenity - then High Ground is perfect.
