This cosy three-bedroom cottage has recently been refurbished and offers comfortable accommodation for six people. The oldest parts of Orphan Crag are believed to date from the 17th century, with the property retaining many original features, such as oak beams. The cottage has been sympathetically refurbished, incorporating a wood burning stove, fully equipped kitchen and cosy dining and living rooms.
Situated in the small village of Underbarrow within the Lake District National Park, Orphan Crag provides an excellent base for exploring the local area, by foot or car. Tucked away at the head of the beautiful Lyth Valley, the property is in an ideal location in which to enjoy the stunning local scenery, as well as providing easy access to the heart of the Lakes.

The village boasts a pub serving excellent food whilst the bustling market town of Kendal, with its many shops, is just a short drive away. There are several other local eateries in the surrounding villages and Staveley, ten minutes drive away, is home to the Hawkshead Brewery. Just a little further and you reach the town of Bowness and Lake Windermere.

Beautiful,well Equipped Cottage.

By Carl S on 12-Jun-2018

This cottage was the perfect getaway for us. We used it over the weekend of the Great North Swim and it's location is perfect. The owners have kept the character of the cottage alive while giving it a modern feel with a well stocked kitchen - there is everything you would need/want. The 3 bedrooms are well presented, our party was 4 adults and 2 children and there was ample room. The village of Underbarrow is peaceful with a lovely pub, but book ahead as it was very busy. Highly recommended and many thanks to Heather.

A Fabulous Gem Of A Cottage!

By Nuala B on 05-Jun-2018

We booked this cottage for our family of four and my parents, and were very pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. Plenty of room in all three bedrooms, and the sitting room was large yet cosy. It is all well equipped, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We particularly loved the relief map of all the lakes and peaks on the dining room wall! The location is fantastic - the cottage backs on to a lovely field of sheep, and the Black Labrador pub which is literally down the road does great food with lots of outdoor seating in the sun. We visited Kendal, Windermere, Lakeside and Fell Foot, Coniston Water and Sizergh castle - and even on the delightful twisty Lake District roads none of these places took longer than an hour. We also did a circular walk right from our front door climbing up Scout Scar which offered truly tremendous views. A very peaceful escape which we all loved and would thoroughly recommend to others!

Idealic Cottage

By Susan T on 07-May-2018

The property was just what we needed 3 bedrooms , modernised and very spacious and when the sun was out the cottage was welcoming . the village of underbarrow is very small though has a great pub called the Black labridor. we couldn't get a table as both nioghts were booked up but we had their takeaway menu which we all throughly enjoyed and of a high statndard cuisine. The cottage is ideally situated to get around the spectactular lake district

Excellent Homes Away From Home

By Sarah T on 20-May-2017

Left on May 20, 2017 for a stay in May 2017
5 of us turned up on Friday to a lovely welcome gift, an impeccably cleaned cottage and a visit from the neighbour to introduce herself. The cottage was in lovely surroundings and just a short drive away from Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside. The weather wasn't at its best, but sitting with the rain pounding outside looking at a real fire more than made up for it. An excellent cottage and a very reasonable price too - perfect.
