It's been a hard couple of years for most families and there's nothing better than looking forward to sharing some quality time with your nearest and dearest. Booking Farm Cottage means that up to eight of you can escape to the country and enjoy a relaxing stay in 17 private acres of woodland and meadow with guest-only access to a large lake, streams and a half mile stretch of the River Fowey. It's the perfect place to unwind with plenty for everyone from bird-watching in the hide, to fishing the river for trout and salmon, to picnicking by the water or splashing in the stream in your wellies. If there are more than eight of you wanting to get away, Rivermead Cottages have six other lovely properties and can accommodate up to thirty two guests, so no one needs to be left behind.

Dating back to the 1700s, Farm Cottage has a lot of character and is great for bringing the family together under one roof. There's a comfy lounge with three sofas and an inglenook fireplace with a log burning stove where you can meet up after a busy day's sightseeing and walking about in the fresh Cornish air. The lounge also has a TV, Freeview and DVD player. There's BT Superfast broadband/wifi across the site to keep all the generations happy.

Most of the rooms in the cottage have the original beams as well as thick stone walls, creaky sloping floorboards and an uneven main staircase. After a good night's sleep undisturbed by street lights, you can join everyone for breakfast in the spacious dining kitchen which is well-equipped with a large wooden table with eight chairs, an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and wealth of kitchen utensils. You can even request a slow cooker and food processor if you want to cook rather than go out and sample the wonderful array of restaurants all within a short drive. You'll have a washing-up starter pack, tea towel and oven gloves left for you in the kitchen as well as a welcome hamper.

There are four bedrooms in the cottage: three upstairs and one downstairs. The main bedroom has a king size bed, wardrobe and dressing table and, across the hall, there's a beamed twin room also with wardrobe and dressing table. These rooms share a large family bathroom with a full-size bath and a separate shower cubicle, WC and wash basin. Towels are provided for you as well as a bath mat and all the bedrooms in the cottage have a hairdryer. All of the rooms upstairs are south-facing and look out towards the cottage's garden.

Downstairs, across the hall from the lounge, is a large double bedroom which has original exposed beams, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a rocking chair. This room is great for anyone with you who finds negotiating stairs difficult as it has access to a ground floor shower room with a shower cubicle, WC and wash basin. The fourth bedroom is a single room with a single and pull-out bed with a built-in cupboard and dressing table. As it's reached via a separate staircase which you only find once you've walked through the double bedroom downstairs, this room is like a hidden bedroom which children love!

Outside Farm Cottage, you have your own grassed garden area complete with picnic table, parasol, benches and a Weber BBQ. The outside space is south-facing so makes a great spot for sitting outside and watching the sunset over the trees or listening to the river. There's a fire pit in the grounds which is another perfect spot for meeting up with everyone at the end of the day. Some guests find that they don't leave the site as it's so peaceful here being close to nature and that's what makes Rivermead Cottages the perfect relaxing get-away.

If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in the Rod Room.

Very comfortable and perfect for our family visit

By afmmbob on 08-Jan-2018

Farm cottage is a great place to stay near Bodmin. Superbly well equipped, we couldn't fault it on anything. The welcome hamper was an especially nice touch. We would definitely stay again.RThis Review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

A luxurious tastefully appointed lodge in a lush green peaceful valley

By Annielaurie35 on 01-Aug-2017

As this was our second visit to Rivermead we knew we were going to a super location in the heart of Cornwall,a half hour at most from both coastlines. Our hosts did not disappoint with their welcome basket(we knew they would n't)no cheapos from Marjorie and Kevin, cornish butter ,large local eggs, clotted cream, scones I could go on it was a delight. We stayed in one of the new lodges this time and the furnishings and facilities were first class from the Portmeirion china to Viners cutlery plus the spectacular views across the valley and evening walks along the river.Absolutely everything has been thought of we hope to return
