Description

Beautiful, quirky and quintessentially British in it's decor, the charm of 3, The Dolphin, recently refurbished and well equipped, will appeal to most. Sit on the sofa, overlook the historic and picturesque Newport Quay and watch the world go by. The calm of the swans and the boats sailing down the River Medina is sure to relax you. Centrally located, Newport town centre is but a few minutes walk away. Yet the peaceful location of The Quay would never suggest you are in the heart of the town.
The space
One double bedroom self contained apartment, that also has a comfortable single day bed (with a second pull out single bed on a wooden trug) in the lounge, along with an additional sofa and armchair. En-suite shower room (optional curtained corridor available from lounge/bedroom to en-suite entrance). Due to the historic nature of this grade two listed converted pub, it is not so suitable for young children, pets or those with mobility issues (due to a narrow staircase/communal area and no garden) The Quay right outside the front door, provides a beautiful place to sit. Top floor views over the stunning Newport Quay. Originally built in 1785, The Dolphin is brimming with period features. Tastefully decorated with heritage colours.
Ideal property for walkers, couples or friends who are looking for a top quality getaway on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

The Quay is a very historical area of Newport. It was once how supplies came to the Island by the boats travelling up the River Medina (which leads back to Cowes and The Solent). There are some fabulous independent shops just round the corner in Holyrood Street. Where you will also find No 1 Holyrood St which serves amazing breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas. The Quay Arts is opposite the Dolphin and it is a hub for the arts with workshops, a theatre, cafe with outside area and numerous evenings and events including music and comedy clubs to name but a few. The Bargeman's Rest is another great music venue pub, just along the river. Beefeater serving a buffet breakfast can also be found along the river path. Burrs restaurant is truly delicious nearby in Lugley St, attracting diners such as Princess Anne.
Seaclose park, the site of the Isle of Wight music festival, is but a short walk away, along the river path.
The Dolphin is in the middle of a network of cycle paths leading either to Cowes or Sandown/Shanklin. Another lovely cycle or walk takes you right along the river path for as far as you want to go, short or long.
Newport is the central Capital town of the Isle of Wight. There are great bus networks taking you all around the Island, which has a wealth of both towns and beautiful countryside/coastal paths.
The Isle of Wight is home to Queen Victoria's Island residence, Osborne House. Carisbrooke Castle (where King Charles I was imprisoned) is another Isle of Wight English Heritage site.

Other things to note:

Discounted 15% off car ferry fares available on request (by email)
Free parking space comes with the property (5 min walk) - Drop off facilities and paid parking available outside the property.

Second floor apartment, narrow stairs/communal area (not suitable for a pram or pushchair storage).

Vrbo Review 3 The Dolphin

By Rita on 21-Jul-2022

A beautifully decorated apartment with everything you need. Many personal touches with attention to detail. Spacious, comfortable and easy to keep cool in this present heatwave. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Large tv, dining table and comfy sofas. Great location, just a few minutes walk to the bus station where you can catch buses to most of the island. You will struggle to find a better apartment

Review of The Dolphin air B and B

By Ravi on 03-Jul-2022

Joanna is a true super host. Everything was extremely convenient from check in to check out. Great central location with easy access to all sides of the island. House was very clean and cosy. The open staircase down the hallway looked dangerous at first but we didn’t have any issues with 2 and 6 year old kids, who both had fun, looking at ducks from the window and playing within the house. Joe is a caring host and that shows up in small gestures which don’t cost much but mean a lot to guests for convenience such as keeping most basic stuff like bread, milk and butter for the kids. House manual described things well and somethings took time to find, from bedroom door to shower controls, but it was all fun for kids!
