The Post House, Noss Mayo has been completely refurbished to offer spacious accommodation in the heart of Noss Mayo, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The large open plan living/dining room provides a comfortable place to enjoy the breathtaking views of the estuary. Enjoy dinner on the large terrace as the sun sets over the river or wander below to Popes Quay with a beer from the nearby Swan Inn to watch the many river activities (including the Regatta and fireworks in August). Walk to The Ship for fine food or at low tide cross the causeway (and get diverted by a spot of crabbing on the way) to the pretty village of Newton Ferrers, The Dolphin and the shops. At high tide use our kayaks to secure fresh breakfast croissants from the local Community store. The coastal path is nearby and can be walked with suitable pushchairs. Some lovely beaches (offering rock pooling to surfing) are within 15-40 mins, whilst Plymouth, the National Marine Aquarium and the historic Barbican are 20 mins drive.
We stayed at Post House to celebrate my husbands birthday with four other couples. The house is ideal for groups with the four bedrooms and comfy sofa bed in the lounge. Plenty of bathrooms and both kitchen and dining room are fully equipped for larger groups. Location is ideal being right next to a great pub. We were lucky with the weather and were able to have most of our meals on the spacious outdoor seating area with magnificent estuary views. There are some beautiful coastal walks straight from the house. Plenty more to explore, I think we’ll be back!
Lovely feel to this fantastic family-friendly home. Very spacious and the layout works so well.
The house is nicely decorated, clean and well equipped. Info about how to work everything is available. A lovely welcome pack with fresh brownies and coffee and a nice bottle of red, so something for all!
Our children ranging from 4-12 years absolutely loved it. We quay jumped and kayaked every day. Location is perfect; from the sitting room window you can keep an eye on the tide to make the most of the high water.
Great walks straight from the house and local shops have plenty of supplies. We didn’t need to get back in the car... so relaxing! Three pubs- The Swan, The Ship and The Dolphin all offering something slightly different and all child and dog friendly.
Great communication with the owner who was quick to answer any question both before and during our stay.
We stayed at the Post House for a long weekend break for a family get together. Three generations so different needs to meet but everyone enjoyed all that the house had to offer and the fantastic selection of things to do during our stay. It’s a really special spot and provided a welcome opportunity to relax and spend time together.
We were blessed with amazing weather and arrived in sunshine (after following the excellent directions provided). We were immediately blown away by the stunning view from the house and the adjoining terrace where we were lucky to be able to sit out for most of our meals because of the wonderful weather.
The house is spacious and really well equipped, has super bathrooms with plenty of hot water and wonderfully comfortable beds.
We were able to make use of the kyacks to do some exploring on the water. We even got Grandad to have a go! There are plenty of walks and scenery to enjoy and the local facilities are more than adequate.
Communication with the owner and the information provided throughout has been excellent.
We all really enjoyed our stay and would happily return!
We had a wonderful week; it is in an idyllic spot and although we managed several coastal walks – there are many more we would love to do. All communication with the owner was timely and efficient, with excellent directions to the property provided. There is a welcome pack upon arrival, with freshly baked goodies, much appreciated after a long journey. The house is very well equipped with everything you need and there is plenty of space for people in the large open plan living /dining room. Information provided on things to do in the area was very comprehensive, with maps and suggested walks included. Very comfortable beds and excellent showers, always plenty of hot water. The view from the terrace, living area, and a couple of the bedrooms is beautiful, and the tranquillity of the area is a real draw. I cannot recommend this holiday property enough; I certainly hope we have the opportunity to visit this part of Devon again.
The Post House was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well- equipped with everthing we needed. The welcome tray was much appreciated after our journey. We had a wonderful holiday there with our family, including our two Grand daughters, who made good use of the kayaks, the tennis courts and the Newton riding stables. Everyone enjoyed a picnic at Cellars Beach and good food at the The Swan - next door and the Ship - a short walk away. Best of all the weather was lovely so we enjoyed meals on the Post House terrace, which has the most amazing views of the creek. It was a fantastic holiday and we are very grateful to the owner for his help and his tips about what to do in the area
We had the most lovely week in Noss Mayo and Peter's house was perfect for us. There are a variety of bedrooms, with large cupboards and several bathrooms. We enjoyed large family meals in the living/dining room; and sitting on the terrace with its fabulous view over the river.
The children loved kayaking, crabbing and swimming; and we had some lovely walks to Cellar beach and across the causeway at low tide to Newton Ferrars.
We highly recommend Peter's house and hope to return one day for another holiday.
We had the most amazing 4 day break in Noss Mayo in late June 2018. We went with friends of ours who had never been to Noss Mayo and they are now in love with the place. We have already re-booked to go in July 2019. The correspondence, professionalism and efficiency of Peter in allowing us to organise a hassle free family break was fantastic. His house is perfectly set up for two families to come and stay and enjoy the amazing surrounds of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. The Swan Inn which was being refurbished when we were there was looking amazing and the Post House's location is ideal with parking right outside the property and only a small walk across to the Ship Inn. Mothecombe Beach, Burgh Island and a walk out to the coast from the property are a must. Peter was also extremely helpful in providing as much information about what to do around the area which was very insightful. Already booked again. It's a must. Enjoy! Marc
Marc Fantastic that you had such a great time, once bitten it does become a bug we are going down en masse for a week in August and our older children (25, 24 and 21) are probably the most excited! And thanks for booking again Regatta is always special so you are sure to have a good time
We have just returned from our holiday at The Post House. Lovely large house with beautiful views over the creek. Peter quickly sorted out a couple of problems that we encountered on our arrival. For which we were very grateful. My family made good use of the kayaks and we also bought a paddle board with us. The welcome tray was a lovely surprise. Lots of little touches make this place so special. Thankyou Peter. Unfortunately The Swan Inn had a reopening night on the Friday we arrived, but didn't serve food during the week and was also closed for drinks on a couple of days. We did eat at The Dolphin and also had dinner twice and lunch on one occasion at The Ship Inn which we thoroughly enjoyed. A wonderful holiday was enjoyed by all.
So glad you enjoyed yourselves. The Swan had been shut for 6 months so it is great that it has re-opened although sad that it wasn't fully functioning during your stay. however James the new landlord is really nice and offering a fresh food menu so I am sure future guests will get the full benefit of a pint and grub on the quay!
Very comfortable property in a beautiful setting. House easily accommodated our family get together. Very well equipped and such beautiful views. Owner was very helpful with lots of useful information. Weather was fantastic and we had many happy evenings sitting on the terrace taking in the view. A fantastic holiday.
Christine So pleased that you enjoyed yourselves and it was great to meet you. We hope you will come back again. Peter
On arrival the outside of the property made us a little apprehensive about what the inside would be like. We need not have worried as all was in good order, well furnished and decorated. All the furnisher was excellent And the beds comfortable with good linen & bathrooms. Everything was clean & tidy. The kitchen had everything we needed, we enjoyed the spaciousness of the rooms and the views from the windows had wonderful views of the creek. It was both peaceful and full of activity as the tide went in and out .For those who like kayaking and swimming it would be perfect, especially for children. We enjoyed walking to the Ship for some evening meals which were very good with lovely staff. During the day we liked to cross the "voss" (a path exposed at low tide) to Newton Ferrers post office, the Co-op and excellent butcher, (great pasties). The Dolphin Pub Was a great place for a drink on their terrace, a real Suntrap! Yes we had gorgeous weather, very lucky! We recommend The Post house to anyone who can cope with steep hills in this attractive unique area , and quite a few stairs in this 'upside down' 3 levelled house.
Mary We have big plans for the exterior of the property which hopefully will bring it up to the standard of the interior as well as provide even more room inside. The Swan is about to re-open so guests will once more be able to enjoy a beer on the quay. I'm glad you had a good time and we hope to see you again. Peter
We have just returned from a weekend in Noss Mayo and can’t praise it enough. From the minute we booked the owner was in contact with details and helpful tips, and on arrival we were touched to find a welcome tray. The house is really large, there were eight of us but there was plenty of room for ten. We also took our Labrador and were a little worried as to how we would limit her to the kitchen. That was solved with a small gate through which she could see us while we were in the lounge. Perfect. It also had just about everything your own home would have. Our party contained three open water swimmers and the proximity to the estuary meant they all managed a swim on each of the days of our break. They also made good use of the kayaks. The roads are very narrow and we have a very wide car, causing some hairy moments, but that’s all part of the charm if, like us, you live in a city. The weather was poor, pretty cold and wet, meaning we couldn’t get any use out of the outdoor terrace. That was a great shame as the views from there are spectacular. All in all I would not hesitate to use this owner, and his wonderful property, again.
It is always a delight when guests enjoy the property as much as we do and hats off to the swimmers - it was a challenging week-end weather wise and I am v impressed they managed a swim everyday in April!!! We'll look forward to your return visit. Peter
Great place, great views. Everything that you would need for a relaxing weekend away. Close to some lovely walks and pubs. It was perfect for us, as we all have little ones. The park was great too.
Ed We are delighted that you had such a good time in Noss and that you were able to enjoy some of the walks. Hopefully we'll see you back some day. Peter
We have stayed at the Post House three times now. We take a different group of friends every time and the house is perfect. Very spacious, clean, airy comfortable accommodation with stunning views across the estuary from the sitting room, bedrooms and terrace - the terrace is a lovely place to sit with a drink and take in the stunning views. The owner is most helpful and friendly, his customer service is excellent, from start of booking until the end. He provides detailed helpful information and always answers any queries we've made, immediately. We especially like the little extra touches he provides, like the bottle of wine! We would highly recommend this property to our friends and relatives, and we are planning to go again for our fourth visit, next year. It is in a beautiful village, from where you can do some great walks. You can go crabbing, the house is virtually beside the water. The house provides two kayaks - great fun! There are two excellent pubs in Noss Mayo and another in Newton Ferrers. The Ship especially does excellent food. The house also has membership to the village tennis courts. Local beauty spots such as Bigbury on Sea, Burgh Island, Wembury beach, Salcombe are all close by and it's the perfect South Hams location for visiting all the delightful towns and villages and attractions in the area and of course Dartmoor. Plymouth is also only a short drive away. Also in the house, there are lots of books and videos for a rainy day! Whether you want a nice relaxing holiday visiting the beautiful South Hams area of Devon, or a more action packed holiday, you couldn't pick a better place than the Post House in the gorgeous villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Thoroughly recommend. We can't wait to go again.
Wow, what a truly beautiful home nestled into the picturesque village of Noss Mayo. The home is spacious and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Peter, the host, is very knowledgeable on the local area and his communication is great. We had gorgeous sunshine everyday and as such enjoyed the costal walk (conveniently ending up in the pub a 2 min walk away). We took our toddler (2 years old) and everything was made easy with fitted stair gates, a high chair and a travel cot provided. Noss Mayo and Newton Ferris offer beautiful surroundings with ever changing views over the estuary. Highly recommended.
We had the most amazing 4 day break in Noss Mayo in early September 2017. We contacted Peter about renting his house for a few days as we had a friend over from California and we wanted to show her a quintessential English town. The correspondence, professionalism and efficiency of Peter in allowing us to organise a hassle free family break was fantastic. His house is perfectly set up for two families to come and stay and enjoy the amazing surrounds of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Being next door to the Swan Inn is ideal with parking right outside the property and only a small walk across to the Ship Inn. Mothecombe Beach, Burgh Island and a walk out to the coast from the property are a must. Peter was also extremely helpful in providing as much information about what to do around the area which was very insightful. Definitely booking again. We loved every minute of it. Enjoy! Marc
This is the second time we've had the pleasure of staying at the Post House in Noss Mayo. We never normally return to holiday destinations (too many places to explore in the world!) but we all fell a bit in love with charming Noss Mayo and the Post House after our first trip here 4 years ago and we vowed to break our usual rule and return. Happy to say we weren't disappointed - its such a very special place.
The Post House gets five stars alone for its brilliant location. Its right on Pope's Quay overlooking the ever changing view of the creek , and the amazingly stunning vista of the bay from the living room window . Coffee cup in hand, watching the bay come to life, seeing the sunlight move across the ripples of the creek... mornings don't come much better than this! .
Our holiday group (2 families with kids ranging from 3 to 9 years old) could have spent all week long without leaving Noss Mayo, mucking about on the quay crabbing and messing about in the kayaks.
One of the highlights of our trip from both our trips to Noss Mayo for one of my sons was his daily "job" of going to get the freshly baked pain au chocolats and croissants for the breakfast table, which meant a short paddle over the creek (with dad) to get the provisions from the shop over in Newton Ferrers. We contemplated buying some the night before and sticking them in the oven to reheat, but to be honest, half the fun was in the ride across the creek every morning, and I'm sure it made them taste that bit better! .
The house itself is a lovely home away from home - very comfortably appointed and nicely decorated, with comfy beds and quality appliances. Kitchen is very well stocked with all the pots pans and (sharp) knives and common utensils you need - which is so rarely the case with holiday accommodation. It really is somewhere you can relax in and call home for a week or two.
Other things to note: great beaches nearby (we tend to hang around Bantham/ Bigbury on Sea / Mothecombe , but there are loads, so take time finding your favourite spot). Our favourite pub in Noss is the Ship, but the Swan is literally next door to the property so it would be rude not to have a cheeky pint there!
Peter the owner has been an absolute delight to deal with - prompt, efficient, very amenable to various requests .
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property. I have no doubt our families will be back again anyway!
The Farmer and Dennis families
We are seasoned Xmas travelers and expect a lot for our Xmas Holiday. and that is Indeed what we got in the Post House, Three Excellent double's and an ideal twin for the kids. two modern ensuites and a great family bathroom, the upside down lay out works great. with stunning views up the estuary and across to newton ferrers . the living area is huge and was great for a family Xmas with 5 adults and 3 children. I don't know what the limit is but it would cope with 10 people comfortably ( 2 Families ) Noss Mayo is a lovely tranquil place and at Xmas everyone we met were really friendly. Lovely walks and two excellent pubs, the fine dining gastro pub the ship inn, a stroll across the stone voss at low tide of about 200m is superb, and the adjacent swan inn is a really friendly locals pub, good food, great company and ideal for picking up a pint on your way to crabbing on the quay below where those not brave enough to fear the cold can watch from the lounge at the top . excellent patio area with all the stunning views, must be lovely in the summer. all in all a little gem of a holiday home in an ideal position in a stunning village.
Friends of five that have been holidaying together for 18 years. The house was spotlessly clean, organised with labelled cupboards and well equipped. The views from the windows are outstanding across the creek. The last few miles of the journey are narrow roads with passing places and parking is "tight" in the village. On saying that there is a bus service to Plymouth and the driver is worthy of an applaud when you see how he can negotiate tight turns and other traffic.
Across the creek , 5 minutes walk, is "The Ship Inn". We found the food, atmosphere and service to be excellent. It is a little bit more pricey than the other pubs but the quality is there and after all you are on holiday! Recommend you pop in and book a table though as very popular. It was great to stay somewhere so close to pubs and not need the car.
Communication with Peter was easy and quick responses. Very professional.
Another great holiday to remember.
We are a family group staying in the area for a wedding. The house was perfect for our needs, large open plan living area upstairs which was great as we had small children with us. The house is very well equipped and there is a terrace with outdoor furniture. Kayaks also included, we didn't actually use them but for summer holidays these would be perfect. The accommodation is split over three floors so maybe not the place if you have any issues with stairs but otherwise very nice. Noss Mayo itself is beautiful and the views of the creek from the house outstanding. There is a pub just next door to the property but it had just changed hands so the food choices were limited, we used the Ship Inn just 10 minutes walk away and the food there is excellent. Would love to return
We stayed at The Post House in Noss Mayo in June 2016 and had a wonderful week. The house is located immediately next to the quay where you can go crabbing, launch the kayaks (provided my The Post House) and moor a boat if you can bring your own. (Boat launch near The Ship Inn) The kayaks and boat are very useful for heading across the creek to get supplies from the shops in Newton Ferrers. There is also a pub next door to the house called The Swann with very friendly owners serving good pub grub and nice Ales...enjoying this in the sunshine on the quay is perfect way to spend the afternoon. The Ship Inn over the Voss is fabulous too. The house itself if amazingly comfortable and functional with everything you need, a proper home away from home. We had 7 adults and 2 children there and the house swallowed us up giving us all more than enough space. The terrace is a wonderful place to watch the sun go down and contemplate your next days activities and if the English weather is not kind to you the cosy living room also offers wonderful views across the creek, as do 2 of the bedrooms as well. Noss Mayo is a special place and very relaxing however the whole area offers plenty of activity including really great walks around the headlands and through the woods. We will be going back!
This is a spacious and comfortable house in a wonderful location. The lounge/dining room is enormous and has great views across the river to Newton Ferrers and downstream to the Yealm estuary.
It is well furnished and equipped. We have stayed in many holiday homes during the winter and often poor quality heating systems let them down. This is not the case here as the central heating is modern and highly effective and together with the log burner in the lounge it stays cosy and warm on even the coldest evenings.
There are lots of great walks from the house and there are three good pubs within easy walking distance. The food and service at the Ship was excellent.
The house has been well looked after and was very clean although in the bathrooms there were some signs of ageing but nothing to detract from the overall good quality.
The owner was very helpful and communication via the website and by email was prompt and efficient.
We would definitely recommend this property to friends and although it was not the most luxurious cottage we have rented it was very reasonably priced given its size and location.
We stayed at the Post House for a week and didn't want to leave.
Situated overlooking the delightful Yealm Estuary in South Devon it's a perfect base for exploring and playing.
We are a family of four adults and a three year old and the property suited us all. First impressions did not disappoint, the area is beautiful and the house had lovely views of the river and the villages of Noss and Newton Ferrers.
Parking was tight but perfectly fine and if the spaces outside the house were taken, The Ship car park is a few minutes walk.
Inside the house is very attractive, comfortable and warm (no stinting on heating here!) Everything is immaculately clean.
A modern, well equipped kitchen with good quality crockery and cutlery, a new washing machine and tumble dryer made household chores easy. The large, well furnished sitting room has very comfortable sofas, a modern TV, a dining table with seating for at least eight and plenty of carpet space for our small grandson to play with his toys, he was very happy.
All the bedrooms are spacious, made up with attractive bed linen and matching large, fluffy towels. Two en-suite shower rooms and a family bathroom meant there was never a need to wait.
The fun part is the crabbing nets and the two kayaks. There for the pleasure of the guests, we made use of them both, in fact our son was out with his little boy at 7.30am one morning catching the ever patient crabs that seemed only too happy to jump onto the bait bag and be whipped out of the water... again.
We went to Mothercombe and Wembury beaches, Babbacombe Model Village, Torquay, The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, took a boat trip on The River Dart in Dartmouth and there were other things we would have liked to do if we'd only had time.
The local pubs are great, we used all three. The Swan, actually joined onto the Post House, is friendly and serves good pub grub. The Ship, on the other side of Noss Creek is more modern and the food a bit more expensive. The Dolphin in Newton is a real 'locals' pub and the staff are jovial and very welcoming.
It's a super place for a holiday, even in October, and as long as night clubs and bars are not on your agenda, we would highly recommend The Post House.
Our correspondence with the owner, Peter, was always efficient and personal, requirements and enquiries were well met. Our breakages deposit was refunded to our bank account within three days of our return.
Well done all who are involved.
Beautifully presented, very comfortable accommodation with everything you could possibly need, including some lovely 'welcome' treats on arrival! We were a family of six and the large open plan living area into the kitchen was perfect for being together but not on top of one another. The Post House gives stunning views across the creek and further along the estuary and we've never known such peace and quiet. The Revelstoke Drive walk is a must with fabulous views of the rugged coastline. Lovely food and great service in The Ship. We were very lucky to have two beautifully warm, sunny days for the time of year but we'd have still loved it in the rain!! The Post House is a credit to the owners and has already been recommended to work colleagues. We hope to be able to visit again soon. Thank you Peter.
Growing up in and around Plymouth, the South Hams, and the twin villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers in particular, featured strongly in my childhood years. I couldn't wait to share these beautiful riverside spots with my family.
The Post House provided us with a spacious spectacular base in which to take full advantage of this. The house is ideally situated just steps from the Quay in Noss Mayo and the views from the terrace over the River Yealm are glorious.
We were three families - my husband and I, our two daughters & son-in-laws, and our three granddaughters (all under 5). The house was perfect for us with it's lovely, large living/dining room, good sized bedrooms and plenty of bathroom facilities. It's beautifully appointed with every facility one might need inside and out on a coastal holiday. We loved the tranquility and being able to walk nearly everywhere - the little park, the quay, the pubs! Our son-in-laws made full use of the kayaks, the two oldest granddaughters caught crabs on the quay, and, when the weather permitted, we all made full use of the terrace. We set a paddling pool up there for our little ones in fact. It was all very safe for them.
The local beaches are very unspoilt and generally very quiet. We'd recommend Mothercombe in particular on the days it is open. The Revelstoke Drive walk is an easy one and from up on the cliffs the coastal views are spectacular. It's a must-do!
All in all a perfect house in a perfect location. And amazingly, little has changed since my childhood! Thank you Peter.
Noss Mayo is a stunning little village perched above an inlet opposite Newton Creek and Newton Ferrers and the view from the terrace at the Post House is spectacular and exceptional. When the tide is in you can watch the boats and sailing dinghies - when the tide is out you can fish for crabs or stroll across to Newton Ferrers. The Post House is beautifully decorated and exceptionally well equipped and comfortable.
The Ship is a short walk and is an excellent pub restaurant, and the Swan is literally next door. Further afield are many excellent places to eat. The house is ver dog friendly (with an external shower) and you have access straight onto the SW coast path with fantastic scenery around the Warren, and you are close enough to Dartmoor for hilltop walking as well.
Kayaking on the creek and out into the Yealm estuary is a must - but take care to check the tide times, as paddling against the tide is hard work.
We all loved the Post House and have no hesitation it giving it the highest recommendation possible.
We had a fantastic week in the Post House in Noss Mayo and loved everything about it. It is in the most perfect location, just next to a quiet pub overlooking the beautiful Yealm Estuary. The little quay just below the house was perfect for all waterbased activities and the kids just loved having kayaks to muck around in and collect croissants from Newton Ferrers every morning. The house is beautifully appointed with everything you could ever wish for in a holiday house and the owner couldn't be more helpful both before during and after our stay, responding to emails quickly, providing detailed instructions and directions and generally making the stay as good as possible - right down to the goodies awaiting us when we got there. The living space is all on the top floor with a huge living/dining room and a well appointed kitchen, leading on to a roof top terrace with great views - we had supper on the terrace every night watching the sun go down over the river. Noss Mayo feels like an undiscovered haven, with beautiful walks, 2 good pubs, and lots of activity when the tide comes in. Highly recommended.
We had a fabulous stay at the Post House. Noss Mayo was a revelation to us, beautiful, fun, busy yet quiet. And the Post House was the perfect place to appreciate it - right in the centre with gorgeous views across the harbour. We particularly loved the living area, beautiful large living space, and the sun trap of a terrace. We'd love to come stay again.
