Description

Sea View Cottage is a charming stone cottage, originally one half of a former stone merchant’s house, situated a stone's throw from the beach on the tiny tied island of Portland. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is full of character and interesting quirks, then Sea View Cottage is the place for you. Dating back to 1805, the cottage has retained many of its original features such as its two foot thick stone walls, inglenook fireplace which now houses a log burning stove and exposed roof timbers, one of which was once a ship's mast. Recently extended and upgraded, it now offers comfortable self-catering holiday accommodation for four guests in two bedrooms.

Portland is a haven for any outdoor adventure seekers. Walkers can enjoy miles of stunning scenery, dramatic cliffs and secluded coves along the South West Coastal Path whilst cyclists can explore the 17 mile Portland Trail cycle route. Not only is there fantastic walking and biking on the doorstep but if you have got a head for heights you can also go rock climbing and abseiling. Watersports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with the huge number of activities on offer. Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy is less than a mile away from Sea View Cottage and you can also try your hand at diving, wind surfing, kite surfing, kayaking and fishing. And no trip to Portland would be complete without visiting the distinctive red and white striped Portland Bill Lighthouse. The view is well worth climbing the 153 steps to the top.

If you would rather just spend lazy days on the beach you will have plenty to choose from. Chesil Cove is a 3-4 minute walk from the cottage, Chesil Beach is a huge shingle bank that connects Portland to the mainland, or if you would prefer sand between your toes head to the long Blue Flag beach at Weymouth. A little further afield you can visit the fascinating limestone arch at Durdle Door where you can enjoy a gentle stroll along to Lulworth Cove. Keen fossil hunters should head to Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

At the end of the day enjoy a drink and something to eat at the Cove House Inn, Salt, or one of the other great pubs or restaurants on the island, or head back to Sea View Cottage where you can cook up your own feast for the night or enjoy a glass of wine and barbeque on the sun deck and viewing platform. The choices are endless and guests who have booked, are given access to the host’s 'online cottage guide book' packed full of useful information about the cottage and the area.

Graham''''s communications and guide is excellent, really allowed us to build up a list of things that we wanted to do. The house is great, quirky, unique, with great views and a deck. A great location, within easy walking distance of shops, pubs and the beach. Highly recommended for a relaxing weekend away.

Wonderful Stay

By Jeremy Webb on 25-Nov-2023

Wonderful stay for 3 nights at Seaview cottage, a lovely cosy ''''''''fisherman''''''''s'''''''' cottage, with fantastic views of the sea and Chesil Beach from the balcony / deck and from the bedrooms. Very helpful pre-information from Graham everything is set out thoughtfully and with attention to all of the important detail. Thank you so much Graham and we definitely plan to stay again.

Enjoyable Stay

By Liam on 10-Nov-2023

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage, which was very homely and full of character! The welcome pack was a really nicely thought out touch! And there was enough kindling and wood in the basket to keep us toastsy for the first couple of evenings. Instructions were detailed and very helpful, Grahams comminication was great. Due to having our hands full, and partaking in many adventures, we rather just got on with it, so we didn''t communicate ourselves. Paking was our only real difficulty, the road was a popular choice for locals, we don''t feel this can be helped however and is only worth mentioning becuase loading/unloading our van with two small children required us to be in close proximity. Luckily there were some wonderful neighbours, so no complaints here. Thanks very much to Graham and family!
