Palm Cottage is not merely a Holiday Let but a much-loved second home for the owners, Mike & Tricia, so the house is ready for your arrival and has a warmth to it, from the carefully chosen interiors to the garden and rear drive and garage with beach toys for the children.

With a Cornish Palm Tree in the front garden and roses growing up the wall, the front door leads into a tastefully furnished open-plan living room with an ample-sized dining table at one end and a cosy seating area with an open log fire at the other.

The kitchen is fully equipped whether you're enjoying a diet of pasties or lobster during your stay.

The bathroom is downstairs with a bath and shower over and a heated towel rail.

Upstairs are three good-sized elegantly furnished bedrooms; a double and two twins including the "Beatrix Potter" room, popular with children.
Each bedroom includes cosy duvets, fresh linen, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside lamps and tables and spare blankets

In addition to the open fire, there are two storage heaters in the living room and one each in the kitchen and on the landing.
There is a smoke alarm in the kitchen and in the living room and a powder extinguisher in the kitchen.

Situated in the pretty hamlet of Newtown-St Martin Palm Cottage with the friendly Prince of Wales pub, serving real ales and good food at reasonable prices just over the road, is a perfect base for exploring the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall's secret treasure.

Gear Farm, just 1.5 miles away makes daily delicious pasties and pizzas and also sells local veg. and frozen meat.
There is a splendid convenience store and Post Office at Mawgan a couple of miles further on, crossing two streams.

The coastal footpath, an AONB, several beaches and the pretty fishing villages of Helford, Cadgwith, Coverack, Mullion and St. Anthony are all within 15 minutes drive.
Helston, the historic town famous for its annual Flora Day is just over six miles away and worth exploring the Town Trail which includes the famous Blue Anchor pub, still brewing its famous "Spingo" Ale. Porthleven, is the only other town on the peninsula and has several excellent restaurants overlooking the busy working harbour.
Lizard Village is at the end of the Peninsula and there a visit is recommended to Anne's yellow-painted Pasty Shop and the most southerly café in UK for it's excellent view whilst enjoying a cream tea,

Other local attractions include the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Flambards Theme Park on the outskirts of Helston and the helicopter training station, RNAS at Culdrose, three miles away.

On the other hand you may just wish to spend your time in the cottage and eating al-fresco from the barbecue in the private, mature and safe garden.

Warm And Homely

By on 11-Oct-2018

"Palm Cottage" is a delightful, warm, well appointed friendly cottage in the little village of Newton. Ideally placed for the many coastal path walks of the "Lizard Peninsular" and inland walks nearby. Small harbours, coves and small beaches abound and there are many excellent eating places to discover including the excellent Inn just over the road. A most enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Beautiful Traditional Cottage

By Iain M on 23-Jul-2018

We had everything we needed at Palm Cottage for a cosy 4-night stay, and appreciated the supply of books and games so the TV didn't get much use! The location is perfect for exploring the area by car or bike - coastal path, beaches, coves, Minnack theatre, St Michael's Mount were all within easy reach. We didn't find any paths from the village but found some fabulous walks and swimming from Coverack, 5 miles away. We organised an evening shopping delivery after arrival- we were told the nearest shop is about 2 miles away in Mawgan since the village shop closed at Christmas. There are tables in the lounge, kitchen and garden so you can spread out according to your mood and the weather. We found the washing line useful to dry off our swimming things, The kitchen is well equiped with plenty of pots, dishes, jugs, mugs, wine glasses etc. The fridge has a small ice/freezer compartment which comfortably fits a tub of ice-cream and ice cube tray but not room for a lot of frozen food. Just 1 toilet and shower in downstairs bathroom but that's all we needed and all was nice and clean.

Chilled

By Mary1218 on 20-Jul-2018

When we decided to go on holiday to Cornwall for my birthday,we came across Palm Cottage and instantly fell for its charms..On arrival it was everything we wished for and it felt like coming home..!! Even down to the small details dog biscuits for our two jack Russell’s a pint of milk and chocolate biscuits went down a treat with a cup of tea. It was so relaxing we need to come back as so much more to explore. It was my 70th birthday and I will always remember Palm Cottage with such fond memories of my special day thank you and to the public try it you won’t be disappointed if you like a relaxing holiday lots of walks, and if you like travelling plenty of places to visit regards Sheila and Roy.

Lovely Week In This Cosy Cottage

By Larnold on 14-Apr-2018

We enjoyed a great week in Palm Cottage with three teens. Comfortable and clean, it felt very homely and nothing like a ‘holiday let’ and much more like a home which was lovely. Ideal for relaxing, but also loads to do in the area and had a great meal at the local pub on the first night. Plus enjoyed the quiz there on the Sunday. Would definitely book again. Communication was excellent with the owner too.

Another Great Stay At Palm Cottage

By NorthStar579398 on 09-Apr-2018

Booked this cottage again after staying there previously . We found it just as charming as before. The cottage was quiet cold on arrival due to cold spat in weather but once in and settled it soon warmed up . We lit a fire and cottage was really cosy and homely . The cottage has selection of board games which came in very useful in the evenings , having three family generations staying we sat around the coffee table by the fire playing games . We still love the welcome tray on arrival , such a lovely touch .The house is well positioned for visiting all the local sights and the pub over road is added bonus. We always had plenty of hot water for showering , often not the case when six of you are sharing a property . The cottage garden is lovely no matter what the weather and full of birds in the morning. And if you are lucky you will see a couple of bats flying around at dusk and the amazing sunsets. We once again visited our favourite place, taking my son and his partner there for their first ever visit , the fabulous Roskillies Farm . Best Ice cream ever made here and we only know about this hidden gem due to staying at palm cottage .My daughter , whom is autistic loves the cottage and especially the Beatrix Potter room and runs to it as soon as we arrive , she said she missed Palm cottage already as we left. Thank you Michael W once again for letting us stay again. The very grateful Rolfe family.

Cosy, Comfortable, Ideal For A Great Family Holiday!

By LoveTravel730719 on 06-Sep-2017

The property is ideally located for access to the wonderful beaches, coves and villages on the Lizard Peninsular. It is a lovely, comfortable and interesting cottage which is clearly a personal home and not just a rental property. Very well equipped, spacious kitchen and a lovely sitting room for relaxing with lamps to create a cosy atmosphere.. The bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds and everywhere the walls are hung with lots of pictures. The garden is a great place to relax in with seating and a barbecue.

Fantastic Vacation House

By Flosserano on 31-Aug-2017

My cousin rented this place for a week and I must say we had a wonderful time. It is well-equipped and very neat, the little touches add a special feel to it like you're at home. From the decors, the pictures on the wall even the duvet covers! It is near the Lizard peninsula, but we also managed to visit the towns of St. Ives, Port of Isaac and Penzance and head home after. Highly recommended!

Ultimate Relaxation

By Cerian2016 on 28-Aug-2017

Had another fantastic stay at Palm Cottage this August. My husband, not normally someone who favours returning to places, described walking back into Palm Cottage, as like coming back home. I cannot say enough about how well equipped, how beautifully decorated (with so much local art work and pottery) or how well situated this place is. The Prince of Wales pub, just opposite is brilliant and it was so easy to just pop over for fish and chips on arrival. There are fab beaches; Church Cove, Poldhu and Kynance Cove just 20 minutes away by car and at the end of a day out the cottage is a welcoming and peaceful retreat, whether to sit in the garden and watch the sun set or playing cards or one of the games provided in the lounge. There are shops in St. Keverne or Helston to pick up supplies. We had an enjoyable stop off at Roskillys ice cream parlour too one day- their fudge is incredible!! This is such an ideal spot to explore The Lizard from but more than that, It's all the little touches; the kettle filled and warm on arrival with yummy biscuits and milk in the fridge to greet you that make this feel less of a holiday rental and more your very own, Cornish home from home.

Restful Delight

By PeterG6417 on 16-Aug-2017

Just returned from a lovely week at Palm Cottage. It's bigger than the photos suggest and very cosy and a great central base for our holiday on the Lizard. The pub across the road is delightful and worth a visit. A couple of things to bear in mind - the cottage has handy parking but the drive is tricky to reverse into, although we managed without incident. And bear in mind thin floors and wall means you can here everything from the living room in the main bedroom. It didn't matter to us though and it wouldn't put me off recommending the cottage to others.

Palm Cottage Is Our

By Epiercey2017 on 09-Aug-2017

My love affair with Cornwall began in my childhood when my Parents would take my siblings and I every summer for our holidays. So it was very natural to want to give my own children the same experiences and to build happy memories. I came upon this superb cottage by chance and ever since it is the only place I will go to when I book a holiday. It is absolutely beautiful, every nook and cranny is taken up with some pretty ornament, attractive lampshades, and it is extremely comfortable and spacious. As soon as I step through the front door I can't help but feel both exhilarated and relaxed at the same time. When we return in the evenings from our days out at the beach it is pure bliss to relax in this gorgeous 'home.' Words cannot do justice to this very sophisticated, clean, and well looked after cottage. If like me you love The Lizard Penisula, an area of outstanding beauty and you are looking for somewhere to stay that is fabulous, then this is the place for you. And the bonus is you can always go back for another holiday, as in my experience the owners appear to spend alot of their own free time there, ( as read in the visitors book ) and clearly have invested alot of time and effort into maintaining this cottage to a very high standard.

Lovely Homely Cornish Cottage

By Bedsman2017 on 26-Jul-2017

Had a fabulous 2 weeks at Palm cottage. Lovely quirky cottage that is very well equipped and very clean! We enjoyed sitting in the pretty garden in the evenings, and eating at the Prince of Wales pub just across the road from the cottage. Micheal, the owner, contacted us via e-mail with everything we needed to know about keys, the private parking, facilities etc. Any queries we had were dealt with quickly and easily. Spent a lovely afternoon at Minack open air theatre and watched a moving performance of 'Birdsong' by Sebastian Faulkes. We hadn't been to Cornwall for 28years and we were so please to see that not too much has changed. Poldhu Cove, Cadgwith, Church Cove, Helford estuary are all essential places to visit. Coverack is wonderful with a lovely sandy beach at low tide and good water based activities, cafes and a small working harbour. While we were there the dreadful storm devastated Coverack but everyone rallied round and although it will take time I am sure it will recover. Thank you again for such a lovely place to stay.

Perfect

By Tourist794 on 17-Apr-2017

I'm afraid to say I will second what other reviews have said and state that this cottage is so much better than the pictures convey- its characterful, quaint and had everything we needed as a family of four. The garden is a bonus as is the country pub across the road - what a pleasure to return to this place after a hard day exploring! Places to visit praa sands beach ( great for families), st michaels mount, porthleven, church cove, coverack is nice for a quick explore, falmouth , poldhu cove and kynance cove the list goes on! The cottage is perfectly placed to feel total escapism but close enough to amenities , what a wonderful week thanks so much to the owners for letting us stay!

Truly A Home From Home

By Lara G on 23-Feb-2017

This is such a lovely homely cottage. The photos do not do it justice. The cottage was extremely clean with fresh bed linen on. On arrival, there was welcome tea and coffee with biscuits with kettle full and boiled. Heaters on and wood and coal for the fire. From the first day, it really felt like we had walked into our own home and we all felt comfortable straight away. There was 6 of us, myself, my husband and 4 children, age 10, 9, 6 and 6. We also took our little Jack russell and found the cottage really spacious for us all. There was wifi which was really good as all kids had gadgets and were all able to connect up at the same time without any problems. Having a real open fire in the evenings while playing board games or watching TV was really cosy and was lovely to have us all together as a family.

Fabulous Homely Cottage In Outstanding Area

By RichardW5683 on 09-Jan-2017

We spent a week at Palm Cottage over New Year with our three young children: 7,5 and 4 year olds. Being familiar with the area we knew what to expect. The cottage however was beautiful and became a wonderful base and "home" for our stay. The children loved the Beatrix Potter bedroom and we were able to explore the wonderful beaches and coastal walks from the village. We will definitely return to this part of Cornwall and can't recommend Palm Cottage more highly. It was a real treat and provided the relaxing break that we were looking for. Thank you Mike.

Beautiful Cottage In Lovely Part Of The Country

By Paulsummers62 on 02-Aug-2016

What a fab property this is. The site photos do not do it justice. The cottage is spacious, very comfortable, well equipped, decorated/lit tastefully and very homely. Palm Cottage is ideally located enabling us to do our favourite walks around the Lizard and Roseland peninsula's. The pub across the road is very nice with an amazing garden. The food/service was great and is definitely worth a visit. The owner (Mike) was very responsive to any requests. We would love to return if in the area again.

Perfect Base For Exploring The Lizard Peninsula

By Kennyg286 on 14-Apr-2016

A delightful cottage, a truly home from home, we didn't want for anything. Clean, comfortable, peace and quiet and an excellent location for exploring the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion Cove, Kynance Cove, Cadgwith, Penzance. The giant Cornish Pasties from The Horse & Jockey in Porthleven must not be missed. All in all, a wonderful stay, thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful Home From Home In Picturesque Location

By HayleyAnneLee on 11-Jan-2016

This lovely cottage was extremely clean and well presented, and was the perfect location for a new year holiday with friends. Each of the rooms were full of character and the cottage as a whole felt really homely. The log fire in the lounge made it a very warm and comfortable place to say (although there is central heating anyway!). All three bedrooms are of a good size and there is ample living space downstairs - plenty of room for our group of 6 people. There is a pub less than a minute walk across the road with a friendly atmosphere for a change of scene (and a game of darts!) if you fancy it. There is also a large supermarket within a 10 minute drive which was really convenient for us wanting to get lots of food in for the new year period. We were at the cottage during the winter so didn't get to make use of the garden, but it was a good size and looked like it would be an excellent place for summer BBQs! I would definitely return to this lovely cottage as I would like to explore the beautiful nearby area more into the future....(when it isn't so wet and cold!). Thank you palm tree cottage!

Delightful Cottage

By Debhen40 on 23-Aug-2015

We absolutely loved Palm Cottage! It is warm, homely, extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. The owners have excellent taste - every room has lovely paintings, pottery, lamps and books and there's something interesting in every alcove. We were a group of four generations - four women and a baby (we took our own travel cot and there was plenty of room for this). Our evenings were spent mostly at the cottage sampling local fish from Porthleven and Cadgwith - the kitchen and dining area were perfect for cooking and enjoying a family meal. When the weather was fine we made good use of the barbecue in the well-tended, private garden which has a lovely selection of plants and herbs. Palm Cottage is in a quiet village with a handy little shop just around the corner, which even sold fresh crab when we were there. We enjoyed a drink in the Prince of Wales, just across the road on our last evening - a great pub with a good menu and very friendly atmosphere. This is a perfect location for exploring the Lizard and we would certainly love to visit again.

An Excellent Choice

By Spingos on 15-Aug-2015

We've stayed many times on the Lizard, and it goes without saying that we love the scenery and ambience of the whole area. This was our first time in Palm Cottage, and we were extremely pleased with our choice. The garden is delightful, and the cottage is spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. The Prince of Wales opposite is rather overpriced and ordinary, we felt; we much preferred The White Hart in St Keverne and for a real treat The Ship Inn at Mawgan. We found Palm Cottage an excellent centre for travelling around the peninsula and a restful haven at the end of each day.
