Lovely short break in Tideswell. Snow made village look beautiful

By Felicity S on 04-Mar-2018

The house was warm and cosy - the wood burning stove was a bonus in the freezing cold weather. It was ideal being in the centre of a village as we were virtually snowed in. We could easily walk to shops and pubs. The house was very well equipped and the welcome hamper very much appreciated. We need to come again when to explore more of the beautiful countryside

Perfect cottage for Christmas

Thank you Nikki and John for the lovely touches you provided during our Christmas stay. The children loved the Christmas tree and the advent train. Have never been to a cottage so well equipped and the welcome hamper was a treat, and we all enjoyed the Christmas cake. The beds were so comfy so we all slept well. Would like to visit again in spring or summer so that we could take advantage of the glorious walks. We decided to come home a day early as there was an amber warning of snow, which Nikki very kindly notified us about. The cottage is a real home from home and would be hard to beat.
My Response

Thank you Margaret for taking time during this busy Christmas holiday to write such a glowing review. We’re delighted that you and your family including your grandchildren enjoyed staying in The Cornerhouse this Christmas and appreciated the quality holiday experience we aim to provide each guest. Thank you for looking after our holiday cottage so well during your stay and we look forward to seeing you again in the spring or summer 2018 as The Peak District has so much to offer. You’ll be very welcome. Wishing you a very Happy New Year! Nikki and John

We had a wonderful stay in Tideswell at the Corner House. It's a beautiful cottage, in an amazing location, right next to the cathedral. We were travelling with our two young children, and this house is just perfect for families. The owners have thought of everything. The welcome hamper was filled with goodies from the local shops (and were delicious). The kitchen is well equipped (with a fantastic coffee maker). The beds were comfortable, there were plenty of towels, and even a wonderful selection of children's books and games to keep us entertained. The cottage has tons of charm, with exposed beams, stone floors, and beautiful details in all the rooms. If we ever find ourselves back in the Peaks, we'll be sure to stay again.

We stayed here with family and had a great few days. The kitchen is so well equipped and the local butcher/grocer/co-op had such great meat/veg/wine that we decided to cook for 2 of the 3 nights we were here and had fab fish n chips on the 3rd night!! The wood burner is great and just added to the cosy feel of the property. We stayed in the master bedroom on 1st floor which was huge and had really good quality bedding and furnishings. Bathrooms were modern. The welcome hamper was much appreciated and a lovely touch. thanks Nikki

We spent a delightful month in The Corner House. It's a beautiful cottage with lots character and charm plus everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen is very well equipped which allowed us to eat in when we wanted. The two main bed rooms are a very generous size with big comfortable beds. The location in the centre of Tideswell is perfect, just as short stroll to good little supermarket, bakery and butcher. There's a good choice of pubs nearby and Nelly's Cafe is a real standout for breakfast lunch and coffee. Car parking is very easy out on the streets. Then there's the Peak District which is simply stunning. Nikki and John are wonderful hosts. Apart from providing a great house, they were extremely welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. They provided lots of local information about restaurants, shops, pubs and walks, all of which we put to good use. We can highly recommend The Corner House

We spent a week in this lovely cottage and thoroughly recommend it. Everything we needed was supplied, the beds were comfortable and the water always hot! There are several lovely walks from the village and many more walks and mountain bike trails within easy reach. There are pubs, cafes and shops in the village and we appreciated the hamper of local produce left by Nikki and John.

We stayed at The Cornerhouse with 2 small children (7 & 9) and had a wonderful time. There was a great welcome basket packed with local goodies for us to try, comfy beds and wonderful shower! Wood burner plus logs not needed! Tideswell is a really pretty and interesting village with good shops and a lovely atmosphere, and is very central for walking or visiting local attractions - the children liked Bolsover Castle (45 mins) and the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton (25 mins) best. We liked the fabulous countryside and tea rooms. Only slight issue with our autistic grandson was the church bells so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper - the rest of us slept through! Will definitely return.

My husband and I stayed in the Corner House for 3 weeks in May 2017 and had another couple visit us for part of the time. The house and village were perfect for us, the 3-story house is charming, lovely, and well-equipped with quality furnishings and linens. We came to the Peak District from the U.S. for walking, and after a good day's walk the house was a welcoming refuge to come home to. Tideswell, too was perfect. It is just large enough to have all the services you need, but small enough so that you can walk everywhere and even get to know some of the local shopkeepers. We had several fine walks right from town. In fact, in our travels around the region we did not see a village that we'd rather stay in, and in our walks around Tideswell we did not see a house in a better location - a step away from the shops yet tucked away on a quiet lane across from the beautiful churchyard and church. Nikki and John were extremely thoughtful, helpful and responsive. We highly recommend this place.

The corner house far exceeded my expectations. The home has so much character and was perfectly laid out for the 5 adults in my party. We could not have asked for better hosts. After a long day of travel I almost cried for joy when finding a bottle of red wine and all the other goodies in our welcome basket. We had all the fixings for breakfast so we could relax and sleep in and eat breakfast before starting our exploration of the local area. The only problem we encountered was that the house was so amazing we didn't want to leave! Our 3 day stay was much too short and we will have to come back for a longer visit. Thank you again Nikki and John!

The house is overlooking the wonderful church in Tideswell and is full of original features, yet with all modern conveniences in a style sensitive to the age of the property, and lovely and cosy in winter. It is well equipped, since it is obviously used by the owners themselves. Tideswell itself is a lovely village; we did a walking 'tour' from a leaflet in the property, which gave a nice flavour of the Tideswell of the past. The owners were very accommodating and were happy to let us leave a little later (there was no booking the next day). I would definitely recommend this property to others and if we were to return to the area, would re-book it ourselves.

beautiful house in a beautiful village perfectly located for walking, eating out and relaxing

By Juliet.V on 28-Dec-2016

the house was spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained and very well equipped. It was a very much last minute booking and the owner couldn't have been more helpful in the quick turn around on information,. availability and booking. We arrived to a lovely welcome hamper of local goodies, lots of helpful hints about where to go to eat, walk, 'sight see' etc. and a great supply of wood and kindling to enable us to enjoy the log fire most evenings. Lovely bedrooms, comfy luxurious beds and a nice collection of books and games. Its a quiet spot, despite being in the centre of Tideswell has groceries, bakeries, newsagents etc literally 'round the corner' , an impressive collection of nice cafes and some lovely walking (Milller's Dale and Litton loop) virtually from the front door. All in all perfect and we cant wait to go back and will certainly recommend the place to friends

Great Village Retreat

By Jean.M on 28-Nov-2016

Lovely, cosy, and a perfect cottage, as well as spacious and light-filled - the kitchen, with large stone fire-place, aga stove and dining table, was the perfectly social hub for our stay. Fire in lounge also perfect for a winter trip. Everything was in great condition and very well-equipped, everything solid and good quality. Thanks hugely also for the welcome hamper - it was a great way to start!

We had a wonderful week at The Corner House. The cottage was full of character, homey, and equipped with everything that we needed. We had a very warm welcome from Nikki and John, along with a very generous hamper of local goodies. Tideswell is a lovely village, quiet, friendly and " non touristy" . All the local pubs and cafes we tried were excellent, and the Co-op shop just round the corner was very convenient. It was an excellent location for meeting up with friends and family whilst we were in the UK, and we had some very memorable walks in the area - the countryside is beautiful.

Would love to return sometime!

Just the job for what we wanted

By Graeme.A on 20-Sep-2016

Planned a short break to do some walking walking with dogs and have a few meals out in the evening. It had everything we needed including some things we didn't expect from a holiday rental (coffee machine!) and was lovely and comfortable. With a co-op around the corner, a great bakers and a good pub down the road. Just the job thank you!

What a lovely stay we had at the Cornerhouse. A beautiful house with so much character and containing everything you need for a great family holiday . The house is right next to the Church which makes for a lovely view from the windows . The garden was so peaceful and a great place to sit and just listen to the sounds of the village . There are some fantastic walks straight from the door and the house was equipped with all the information we needed to find the best walks . Thanks to Nikki and John for being such welcoming hosts - we have lovely memories of a great family holiday

Dazzled by the original beams and features within the cottage

By The Hodgkinson Family USA on 31-Aug-2016

"From our US-based perspective, we were of course dazzled by the original beams and features within the cottage, plus its proximity to the ancient church, and to excellent pubs, shops, and restaurants in Tideswell's quaint streets. We were also very pleasantly surprised by, for instance: the open first floor, perfect for gathering to cook, eat, socialize, plan, and relax; king-size beds in large bedrooms; modern bathrooms, double glazing, all of the 300-year-old charm plus all of the modern comforts. Activities we especially enjoyed included walks directly from Tideswell, Haddon Hall (quite a different experience than Chatsworth); Peak Rail; wandering around Bakewell and Buxton; the caverns and castle at Castleton; and over in the Sheffield direction, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, and even a shopping mall fix at Meadowhall .Nikki and John welcomed us very warmly with a lot of valuable information on Tideswell and on the Peak District. We loved the welcome hamper. Congratulations to this charming couple on a beautiful cottage restoration which we enjoyed so much, and hope to visit again." Aug, 2016

Wonderful Time in Tideswell

By J Richards And Friends on 31-Jul-2016

"We had the most wonderful time in Tideswell. The Cornerhouse was just fantastic, but more than that it was the welcome we received from the owners, and the way they presented the house. If I was asked to sum up the, it would be probable the most welcoming place we have stayed at over the last 5 years of holidaying as a foursome. I know this place will become popular, therefore more difficult for us to book, but it just needs sharing with others. Thank you both for the privilege of staying at your lovely house. Yes, we will be back next year."- July 2016

It is at the very heart of the beautiful village of Tideswell, which is perfectly situated for exploring the Peak District. There are beautiful walks from the village to Monsal Head and beyond to Bakewell. Tideswell is a thriving and lively village with good butchers and bakers shops, restaurant and pubs. Tideswell is a good location

By The Tinker Family on 30-Apr-2016

" Tideswell is a good location for walking, with sufficient shops, and a range of eateries and pubs to come back to and yet is close enough to Buxton and Bakewell for bigger shops (and pies). We really enjoyed Tideswell’s community spirit as well. The food event obviously helped. It was a pleasure to find not only an excellent hamper but a cupboard with cooking oil, herbs etc, those things that aren’t needed in large quantities but make a difference to a slow cooked casserole done in the Aga! Another excellent bit of kit to come back to after a day’s soggy walking and to find the meal cooked and waiting! Also those super comfy beds!"

Fabulous week

By Charter Family on 26-Feb-2016

"What a fabulous week for us. The cottage stunning. The village smashing. The walks superb. To be honest the cottage was so cosy we did not go out. We dined in and settled in front of the log burner with a glass or two of wine after walking 10 miles each day. We have booked again for October half term and know we will find more walks. The Co-op is great, we also organised a Waitrose delivery from Buxton for the main things on our first day. The butcher does some brilliant fillet steak. It was cold, windy, frosty, sunny but I have never felt so refreshed. Nikki and John, great owners and I would be surprised if you found anything missing!!" - February, 2016
