Spent a relaxing few days in this exceptional cottage. It was absolutely pristine and really well equipped. The location was just perfect for the break we needed with lovely views from the rear of the cottage. Keswick was just a short drive away as was Cockermouth. Can definitely recommend.
Gorgeous little cottage

We needed somewhere to stay for the Keswick Mountain Festival and Little Byre was where we chose. It's an easy 30 minute drive into Keswick so not too out of the way if you want a day trip to town. Although we didn't spend too much time at the cottage we found it very clean and comfortable and really well equipped. Beds were super comfy, especially after an 18 miles walk. But I would suggest getting a heavier curtain on the single room window as the light does come through early during the summer, and the moonlight shines through at night too. The wine and biscuits went down a treat. I can see how parking may have been an issue but we were lucky on our stay and even if you had to park in the next village it was still only 5 minutes to walk back to the cottage so not really a massive issue.
Cute place, nice new kitchen, quiet location.

My wife and I stayed in Little Byre for four nights in late September. The two-floor interior has had a lot of care put into it...very nice appointments and a new kitchen with new appliances and cookware. The owner sent us a very nice two-page letter detailing places to eat, things to see and do, and other information about the cottage and the area. There is a nice television and fireplace. Because of the nature of the building we share walls with the immediate neighbors, so we were requested to be quiet after 10 and not to flush toilets during the night etc. Little Byre was very clean and cozy and comfortable.
The wooden stairway and upper floors creak when walked on, only a problem at night when one wants to be quiet. Also, there is an unexpected step outside the master bedroom door -- leave a light on at night so you see that step!
The big problem we encountered had to do with parking. Little Byre sits on a VERY narrow road, wide enough (at best) for a parked car along (within inches of) the building that houses all the cottages, and one traffic lane with so little room to spare that we were requested by the owner and also in person by one of the residents to pull in our side mirror to make room! There are no designated parking spots for each of the cottages, and residents can and do park freely in front of other people's cottages (including a big red SUV in front of Little Byre), so finding a place to park becomes a first come first served situation which could easily have left us with no place to park. The problem was resolved for us because one of the cottages was for sale and unoccupied, so we parked in front of that one. Had that not been the case, we were told by the owner and a somewhat irritated resident to park at the bottom of the hill but the three places there were taken every time we looked.
Parking issues aside, Little Byre gave us a quiet place to stay for our daytime forays into the Lake District.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Little Byre. The Cottage was warm, comfortable, set in an ideallyc setting and well equipped. We could not ask for more.
We ate out most evenings and went to the Lakeside Restaurant (2 miles up the road) which whilst not the cheapest was quality and plentiful with lovely views and friendly service.
we would recommend Little Byre to anyone.

We have just returned from this delightful cottage. It is within easy driving distance to so many beautiful places and we particularly enjoyed Keswick and Derwentwater. We wish we had had more time to explore this wonderful part of the country. We loved going out for long days in the fantastic weather and returning to Little Byre which truly felt like home. Highly recommended.
Splendid village comfort

The cottage is lovely, well-equipped, clean, and comfortable. Not only is there well-maintained equipment for any self-catering one wants to do, but the landlord furnishes lots of information on local sites and amenities in the form of guest books, travel books, maps, and even videos. Pre-travel email gave me information to help with any questions or difficulties I can easily imagine.
Extras: A neighborhood peacock, and particularly comfortable beds.

We had a lovely week in Little Byre. It was just perfect for the two of us. The cottage is very well equipped and furnished to a high standard..We visited Ambleside, Kendal,Keswick and Windermere. We were lucky to have good weather and enjoyed very scenic drives and had a few picnics.

Our stay at Little Byre was perfect. The cottage is exceptionally clean and well cared for, beds are very comfy and the neighbours are friendly and helpful. Very peaceful setting. Would recommend the tea room at Dodds Wood, best gingerbread you will ever taste.
Perfect and peaceful

We loved Little Byre from the moment we walked in the door. It's tucked away in a very quiet area, well away from the tourist honeypots, but an easy drive to all of them. There were biscuits and a bottle of wine waiting for us, which we enjoyed sitting on the tiny terrace looking at the view of Skiddaw.
The cottage was spotlessly clean, and very warm. Everything we could possibly have needed was provided - the kitchen was particularly well equipped, which is all to rare on a holiday cottage. There were books, DVDs to watch, and board games for rainy days (we didn't have any of those, amazingly!). The shower was boiling hot, the beds were comfortable, and to top it off there were a couple of peacocks who wandered round the communal garden every morning!
Absolutely fantastic. Well done Margaret and Mark for creating such a lovely refuge.
Stunning views, homely and immaculate

I have just returned to Yorkshire from 3 nights away with my gorgeous mum and sister. We wanted a space to get together away from work and the stresses of life. The past couple of years have been very hard with the loss of dad, mum looking after elderly parent and in-laws and the stresses of mine and my sisters job. I would say to anybody that Little Byre is an absolutely amazing place to stay. Id recommend to anyone. Margaret the owner i spoke to on the phone to book was lovely. The cottage was very well presented. The decor etc was amazing , beds and shower so lovely. It was immaculate to. We loved the touches e.g milk and ice cubes in freezer (pretty hot day and much appreciated) when we arrived an bottle of wine. We will be returning. Thank you Margaret so very much . Excellent cottage, we had everything we needed and it was very clean and cosy . Our son who is 9 throughly enjoyed our stay and read lots of the books which were already there.
Will be booking again for next year. England is very beautiful and our stay in little byre was something we will remember for a very long time.
Over 6 days we walked 35 miles but the views and surroundings made it all that enjoyable .
A brilliant short break

The cottage was immaculate. Perfect for my husband, daughter and myself. Beds were really comfortable.
Thank you for the welcome tray: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and wine, plus milk in fridge.
Would definitely stay here again.

We had a great 4 nights stay at Little Byre! The cottage has everything you need and more. It felt like being at home. The house was very clean, comfortable beds and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The location is great. A short drive to Keswick or other areas in the Lake District. The owners provide a lot of good info about the area, including restaurant recommendations, books and maps. Plus a great welcome package with a bottle of wine and shortbread! Our only regret was not staying longer.

We had a wonderful week staying at Little Byre. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a stay in the lakes. You even get a bottle of wine and some rather tasty biscuits waiting for you.
The location is amazing. A tranquil little village, perfectly picturesque with superb views which feels like it's another, better world!
But you're only about ten miles to the seaside, to the forests and to the heart of the lakes. I'm not sure there are many places that can say that. I've already recommended Little Byre to family and we will be staying again. We loved it.
Home from home

What a great find. We enjoyed a relaxing break at this beautiful cottage. Everything was first class, from the cleanliness to the comfort. The furnishings were lovely and there was a lovely patio area to sit outside and enjoy the stunning views of Skiddaw. Little touches such as leaving a welcoming bottle of wine, shortbread and even fresh milk, made this holidayrental just that little bit special. The whole process from enquiring to receiving directions to the cottage and key collection details was made so easy by Margaret. We can definitely recommend this cottage and hopefully we will return in the future.
Lovely and great location

This cottage is well equipped and is ideal for young families, we recommend a trip to solway Coast, a river cruise on derwentside to ashness bridge and lodore falls. The Lake District wildlife park is great for those with children, and we enjoyed a trip to Windermere where we got a boat to a steam train! I recommend little byre and the little extras like toys and board games were well used during our stay! Only negative comment would be the need for wifi, we found it difficult to explore the area without wifi as we couldn't see opening times for local attractions nor how far away they were! Would recommend plenty of research before as no internet can hinder your trips otherwise!
so pleased i have found it again.

Stayed here about 3 years ago, beautiful, cosy home, everything we could possible need plus extras. Handy for all areas. My mother was with us and we are old age pensioners, she loved it.
not certain if it was 2010 or 2011, cannot remember the month, memory not that good.
Clean, well furnished lovely location

This is the first time we have booked a cottage holiday so we were not sure what to expect.
Upon arrival a bottle of wine and biscuits had been left for us. Looking around we found that the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The cottage was very clean. The owners take huge pride in the cottage and I have found out they travel from their home to clean it themselves.
The furnishings in the cottage are beautiful. Lovely oak furniture and comfy beds. The views to the rear of the cottage are very nice and we even did some walking around the local area which is pleasent. The cottage had lots of maps available for walks as well as games / books / DVD's.
Margaret the owner was very informative and quick to respond to all of our questions and even advised us where shops were etc.
We have never booked the same holiday location twice before but this is a first as we have booked to go back to the cottage next year and can't wait.
A great price for a lovely cottage and very helpful owners.

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay and felt like a home-from-home. Tastfully decorated with all mod-cons and a fantastic view from the rear of the cottage. The owners did everything they could to accomodate us and our baby making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. They neighbours were lovely and very friendly. Lots of information in the cottage about places to visit in the local area. It was our first holiday with our 9 month old baby and was very special spending it here.
