Crabtree Barn is rurally set in beautiful countryside of Pennine Yorkshire in the Calderdale area. The rugged and distinctive landscape has featured recently in a number of popular TV series including Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax and just a few miles south and further back in time Last of the Summer wine and Where the Heart Is.

The barn is a converted Victorian barn sympathetically converted to a modern and spacious, light filled space with fantastic views but keeping the character of the beams and stonework.

The open plan living area, set upstairs, is a spacious and sociable room open to the rafters with 2 large comfy sofas to watch the clouds drift by overhead from the velux windows or if you prefer you can watch the Samsung Smart TV or play one of the many family games available. The living room is kept cosy with oil central heating and a powerful Scandinavian log burning stove. A full sized kitchen with dishwasher and fridge freezer and plenty of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery is also provided. A dining table seating up to 6 is also provided. The wall decorations are carefully chosen to reflect the history of the area with local artists featured.

It has 2 ensuite bedrooms both with comfortable beds. One with a superking bed (which can be 2 twins) and a newly renovated ensuite shower room with rainfall shower. The second bedroom has a king size bed and a fabulous view out over the hills which you can enjoy lying in bed or from the cushioned window seat. The ensuite has a shower bath with a Grohe shower. Cotton linen and fluffy towels are included.

Walking and cycling are available right from the door. If you’re feeling a bit less energetic - there are a lot of hills - then there’s a large private garden with terrace to relax in with your own summer house - perfect to take in the views with a morning coffee.

As part of the ‘underdwelling’ of the barn, there is also a light and airy games room with views to the hills and garden with full size table tennis and children’s table football.

It is suitable for families and couples of friends visiting for a holiday exploring beautiful Calderdale, visiting friends/ family or escaping the builders. We welcome little ones with a travel cot, highchair, fireguard and changing mat all available at no extra charge.

WiFi is available throughout the barn and is of a speed suitable for streaming TV etc

The weekly price for 4 people ranges from £700 to £1000 per week with shorter breaks of 3 nights available outside of peak times. Please check availability on our website www.crabtreebarn.com where you will find all the details or do feel free to give us a call. We accept credit card payments at no surcharge and also bank transfers.
We accept bookings starting on any day except Sundays.

Calderdale has been made famous recently by being the film location for the BBC drama TV series 'Happy Valley', 'Gentleman Jack', 'Last Tango in Halifax' and coming shortly is a new BBC drama 'The Gallows Pole' based on the story of the local 'coiners'. The beautiful moorland scenery of the Pennines is right on your doorstep with Hebden Bridge (Happy Valley locations), Shibden Hall (Gentleman Jack) and Haworth, the home of the famous Bronte sisters all less than 30 minutes away. The Piece Hall in Halifax, just 6 miles away, is the only surviving Georgian cloth market in the UK and is now a popular venue full of vibrant independent shops, cafes, restaurants and holds outdoor music events in summer. In 2024 these include names like Fat Boy Slim, Bryan Adams, Rick Astley, Blondie, Sheryl Crow and many other big names.

Award-winning Bolster Moor Farm shop is 3 miles away, with a fabulous butcher, bakery and cafe whilst local shops, supermarkets, restaurants and takeaways are within a 10/ 15 minute drive with 2 exceptional restaurants The Engine tapas (Michelin guide listed) and the Shibden Mill Inn (Best pub food nationally 2022 in British pub awards) within 20 minutes drive. The nearest pub, The Lower Royal George is 1.4 miles whilst 1885 the Pub is just 2 miles. We are also within 3 miles of two popular wedding venues The Venue Bowers Mill and The Fleece Inn.

Spas - Titanic Spa - a full spa experience - is based less than 5 miles away whilst a small boutique spa with fabulous treatments and private hot tub - Beautissimo - is also just 4 miles away - perfect for 2 to 4 people with sole use.

Leeds, York and Manchester are excellent day trip destinations or you may choose to explore the local markets of towns such as Halifax, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. The Yorkshire Dales NP and the Peak District NP are only an hour’s drive away and the coastal towns of Blackpool, Southport and Lytham St Anne's just a little more.

Helpful Notes
Free parking on your private drive in front of the barn is available for 2 cars. Please note motorhomes and caravans cannot access the barn due to the narrow lanes and limited parking on the road. No smoking or candles / naked flames inside the property please. Maximum capacity is 4 adults and a baby (to sleep in a cot in the superking bedroom).

A generous free basket of kiln dried logs is left for the woodburner and thereafter the cost is £8 per basket. We ask that you do use the wood we supply as we supply this at cost and cheaper grades of unseasoned wood can cause issues with the chimney with potential chimney fires as a result.

It is expected that the barn will be left clean and tidy on departure although a final clean is included in the rental cost so that our high standards are maintained for the next visitor.
Accessibility issues because of stairs from the ground to first floor living room and steep steps in the garden mean that unfortunately the cottage is not suitable for the less mobile.

An EV charger is available on request at a charge depending on the current electricity kWH cost. The EV charger is metred and payment is due before departure.
Sorry we don't accept pets.

3 night stay in this gorgeous converted barn.

By Gillian Wynn on 04-Sep-2023

3 night stay in this gorgeous converted barn. 2 couples who enjoy walking and sightseeing in the day and then eating, drinking and board games in the evenings. Who knew this area had so much to offer and thanks to Wayne did a couple of his recommendations, one being a really enjoyable scarecrow hunt ?? Nothing to complain about with the Barn, it’s as described and so lovely. Having two en-suite bedrooms was a real bonus for us as yes we enjoy each other’s company but like our privacy. Thanks Wayne and Rachel and congratulations on a fabulous holiday rental…. As Arnie said…” I’ll be back” he didn’t say we, but I mean we ??
