** New for 2020 - In response to feedback, we have a new parking area for 4 cars directly outside the garden. Plus a new ground floor, king-size bedroom and shower room - ideal for guests with limited mobility. **
Townfoot Farmhouse accommodates 8. The farmhouse is a 17th century detached property exuding character which effortlessly mixes with its 21st century indulgences; ecologically warmed throughout. The interior is designed and executed to the highest standard and in complete sympathy with its original farmhouse character. There are nooks and crannies all over the house and interesting ancient details and features everywhere. The house has some wonderful vantage points for spectacular Troutbeck valley views.
On the ground floor, the living room has under-floor heated stone flags, sturdy oak beams, wood panelling, a warming wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace, and even a Spice cupboard dated to 1694. The designer farmhouse kitchen / breakfast room lead into the garden room with double doors out onto the patio area and garden. There also is a luxurious monsoon shower room on the ground floor which serves an easily accessible king-size bedroom with beautiful views and a door onto the garden - perfect for families with elder relatives, who may not want to tackle the old staircase.
From the living room, a winding old oak staircase takes to you the first floor where there are three further spacious bedrooms, one superking-size, one king-size and one double, together with two further bathrooms. These bedrooms also have wonderful views over the garden and valley and an abundance of character features and oak panelling.
Outside, there is a dog-proof fenced garden, and patio area with seating for 8 and a BBQ.
You are surrounded by fabulous walking territory with a footpath directly from the property onto Wansfell. The picturesque conservation village of Troutbeck is renowned for its numerous listed buildings and vernacular architecture and there is a strong and vibrant community with a village shop and tea room, visiting post office service, church and an excellent pub serving hearty meals and local ales. A few minutes down the road from Troutbeck brings you to the stunning shores of Lake Windermere. Perfect! This cottage can be booked for whole weeks only, Saturday to Saturday.
8 of us and 2 dogs stayed over the New Year period. The property was perfect for us and it has many quirky features as it’s so old. We had a fantastic time and the weather was kind. Alun is very helpful and is quick to answer any questions you might have. The views from virtually every window are magnificent and I only wish we could have sat in the garden and made use of the barbecue. Perhaps if we return in the summer we would be able to appreciate the outside space more.
To sum up- the perfect property for a large group.
Absolutely great cottage in a beautiful area. Very well maintained and comfortable. There were 7 of us, plus a dog, staying there and there was plenty of room. Would definitely stay there again!
We had a fantastic week at Townfoot Farmhouse. The property is in a great location, close to Windermere and Ambleside but in a peaceful and rural location. Lots of great walks - the path up the side of the farmhouse leads to lovely views over Windermere. Boat trips and several National Trust sites also in easy reach. The property is well equipped and had everything we needed. Alun responded really quickly to a minor problem we discovered. It was a good size for us all - four adults, three children and a dog. The fourth bedroom is down some fairly steep stairs and mind your head walking from the kitchen to the lounge! We would not hesitate booking this property again.
Lovely property - old and quaint but with all modern conveniences
We loved this beautiful and characterful old house and it is in a great location to reach all the lakes and walks we could want. So often houses that sleep eight do not have good living space for eight but Townfoot allows the group to be together or spread out so it was perfect for our party. Many thanks!
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Townfoot. Great character building with excellent facilities. Alun was very responsive during the booking process & provided everything we needed. Thanks once again!
Wonderful cottage - perfect location - great walks on the doorstep - stunning views.
The cottage lived up to our expectations, modern kitchen facilities complimented the quirky period features, we loved it. Townfoot was clean and beautifully maintained, inside and out, Alun couldn't have been more helpful, answered emails promptly.
A superb family holiday.
Our family of 4 stayed in this charming cottage for 1 week. We found the location to be ideally placed for us to access the activities we had planned by car, ie Scafell Pike, Grizdale Forest, Penrith, Ullswater, Bowness, Ambleside and Windemere. We found the facilities provided by the cottage to suit our needs. Our break benefitted from outstanding weather and the views from the garden were devine and added to the peaceful atmosphere in this stunning location.
A peaceful location but only a quick drive to shops and restaurants. We ate outside most nights as the garden is wonderful with great views over the valley. And lots of space to enjoy a day indoors when it rained.
Townfoot farmhouse was huge and contained everything you could possibly need. Furnished to a fantastic standard, with top of the range facilities. The garden though, wow wow wow!! I could have sat there all day, watching the wild birds feeding and enjoying the view. It was magnificent. My family and I had a superb week! Watch your head on the low beams between the kitchen and lounge, each of us nearly knocked ourselves out on separate occasions!! We tried the Mortal Man pub nearby but weren't that impressed. For excellent pub food try the Brookside pub in Windermere, it was lovely. And also the little post office/cafe in Troutbeck, friendly staff and gorgeous cake and coffee. Would love to return!
A character property with beautiful terraced gardens, set in a peaceful countryside location. Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside are just a few minutes drive away. Being able to pop back for a relaxing lunch on the terrace everyday, completed a lovely holiday at Troutbeck Farmhouse.
The property was full of charm & character and in a good location close to Windermere, Ambleside etc. It had many original features but modern appliances & we found it very homely & relaxing. The garden & wildlife were an added bonus and it was situated within a very peaceful village with a local pub serving delicious food.
