Mijas pueblo is a magical white historical village to visit if you want to relax away from the bustle of the coast. The views down to the coast are spectacular as Mijas is 450 metres up the mountain from the sea. You can stroll round the open plaza and then get lost in the myriad of small streets of white houses with terracotta roofs. Mijas is famous for its well looked after donkeys which were the work horses in times before the tourists discovered the area. There is a special atmosphere amongst the historic buildings and it is easy to imagine life before the tourists came. The locals are very happy people and the mainly Spanish run bars and restaurants will welcome you warmly. Visit the museum of local life and also the small Picasso museum. The council are very proud of this village and preserve its attractions. The churches are spectacular, two small but perfect, in the centre of the village and one in the middle of a magnificent park; nearby a small bullring. Also a visit to the small chapel of Virgen de la Pena is a must, at the end of a terrace offering more splendid views. Choose from the many apartments and villa rentals in Mijas. The whole village of Mijas is a relaxing place for mind body and spirit.
