Super September Stay

By Richard S. on 12-Sep-2019

The house was very well equipped with lovely view, pool and accommodation. Instructions given by the owner were excellent for our travel and plenty of useful information in the blue book for suggestions for places to visit and to eat.
All in all we had a lovely time and can recommend this property wholeheartedly.

Wonderful place

By Spencer G. on 12-Sep-2018

Excellent location, amenities and property. The local villages of Bagnone, Villafranca and the Castle are a joy to explore. Very peaceful, very restful and a perfect location for a family holiday. Simon and Sarah make excellent hosts and gave us great tips on what to do. Their suggestions on local restaurants were spot on.

We definitely hope to get back one day.

Lovely villa in a beautiful, tranquil location.

By Jo T. on 17-Jun-2018

We had a lovely week in this beautiful villa. It is spacious and well maintained with everything we needed. The pool is spotlessly clean in amongst the vast gardens and was cared for during the week by the very helpful Ana. We enjoyed meals on the terrace every day. It is very tempting to return next year.

I don't think I've ever felt so relaxed

By Dave S. on 20-Aug-2017

We spent a glorious two weeks at this lovely house and used it as a base to explore Tuscany. We visited Pisa, Pontremoli, La Spezia and the Cinque Terre. The house really is as wonderful as all the reviews suggest. Very clean and well maintained. The mountain views are spectacular. The weather was glorious during our stay but we did get to witness an electric storm in the distance over the mountains one night which was magical. The house is really well equipped but as other reviewers have said the pool really is the highlight and none of us could wait to dive in as soon as we got back from a day out. We didn't get to see much of the local wildlife other than one fallow deer who jumped out of the road as we drove down towards the castle at Malgrate. Certainly no wild boar other than on our plate in a couple of the local restaurants. There is a folder that Simon and Sarah leave in the house which is a mine of useful information. Our favourite meal out was definitely Thursday night grill night at the Gavarini restaurant which is only a five minute drive away and we'd recommend that to anyone. Although we did stay in a few evenings, cooking dinner ourselves and eating out on the terrace and watching the sunset over the mountains with a glass of wine. Having Dave on hand to help us book restaurants and give us the benefit of his local knowledge was a real bonus. We all came away saying that we'd never before felt so relaxed as we did during our two weeks at this house. Dave, Debbie, Amy, Jack and Tom - Leigh on Sea, Essex

Blown away!

By Mark F. on 30-Jul-2017

We just got back and if Im honest its the first holiday that Ive been on for many years where I wasnt gagging to get back to work after the first 7 days. I actually needed another 7!
We loved the home! It was beautiful and in such a stunning piece of countryside. The only downside was that it was like Chinese torture every night trying to get the kids out of the pool.
Lisas parents stayed in a local hotel but were so impressed came to spend most days with us by the pool. They also loved the home. We ended up eating twice at the restaurant at the bottom of the hill by the Castle that Sarah booked us into. It was so rustic, the food and local wine was terrirfic and we loved eating there so we went back!
Dave was super helpful and on his recommendation we spent the day at Lericci on the coast without the kids! Lisas parents took care of them for the day.
Needless to say, we intend to return next year and will probably bring the in-laws. They can stay in the 3rd en-suite bedroom downstairs, which is pretty much self-contained and very private.
We kept a watch out for the wild boar and were disappointed only to hear and not see them but maybe next time round.
I can't recommend this home enough - staying in, which we did or going out - it's the perfect base! It has everything and we treated it like a home from home.

Great property with lovely surroundings

By Alan H. on 12-Jun-2017

We arrived quite late in the evening to be welcomed by a spectacular display of fire flies in the garden of the property. Quite magical! The property and surroundings certainly live up to the photos and the description. It was well equipped for all our needs (four adults and two young children) during the holiday and very stylish and comfortable. The pool was very much enjoyed by young and old(er) alike.
The surrounding villages and castles were beautiful and very photogenic although travelling locally we felt a little safer driving rather than walking due to the narrow roads and hairpin bends.
A short drive to Villafranca and you could get on a train to visit the beautiful Cinque Terre villages on the coast.
We really enjoyed our week in Northern Tuscany and would certainly recommend the property.

The setting of this property is simply stunning; the property itself is modern and has amazing views

By Jude Lakey on 12-Sep-2016

We loved our stay in this property. The whole property was modern and really comfortable, with a glass frontage which meant views over the mountains from wherever you stood. It was like stepping into someone's home - and so had all those 'extras' that make all the difference ... like herbs and spices, and washing powder! When we tired of pizzerias (which we did, as we felt that they get a bit repetitive) there was everything we needed to cook at home. Although there was air conditioning in the main parts of the house, there wasn't any in the bedrooms - we were staying at the beginning of September but one of the bedrooms was still too hot for a comfortable night's sleep, despite there being very modern fans provided. The setting of the property was stunning. We were blown away by just how quiet it was - the noise made by the insects in the garden far exceeded any noise made by other humans. The pool was lovely, with the best sun beds ever. We drove to Lucca and to the coast, and took the train from La Spezia to Cinque Terre - all within an hour's drive. But the best time was spent at the villa, lazing around in the sun by the pool, with the mountains as a backdrop. We had one or two 'hiccups' (couldn't get the pool lights to come on, and some lights bulbs needed replacing) but a phone call to Dave always brought a prompt response - and there's a lot to be said for this! And the wifi really did work - which was very important for our teenage guests (no complaining!!) All in all - a fantastic property, and an even more fantastic setting.

Wonderful property - highly recommended!

By Kathy Q. on 17-Aug-2016

We've just returned from a week at Casa Sillara and wow...what a fabulous house! This is the first time in many years that we've rented a property and I'm glad to say we definitely chose the right place for our family. The whole house has been very well thought out, nicely furnished and was very clean on arrival. A nice touch was leaving us some beers and a bottle of prosecco for our arrival.
The kitchen is fully equipped a with everything you could want. We all loved the pool and the great loungers... so much so we found it hard to tear ourselves away from it! There's plenty of places to explore locally and you're also not too far away from Lucca and Pisa.
For a true, authentic italian experience ask to be booked into the local restaurant, the owner's daughter speaks good english and helped us make the right meal choices (don't expect a menu) - wonderful food and reasonably priced. David and his wife Ana are there for any emergencies and were a great source of information. Great communication with Sarah the owner and all our questions were answered quickly.

Don't hesitate in booking this truly wonderful house. Thanks Sarah and we'll definitely book again in the future.
