This lovely holiday apartment is one of 4 in the grounds of Il Colletino, a working farm with absolutely stunning views located in the tiny historical village of Silico. The farm is run in the traditional Garfagnana way.
The property has an open plan living room with fully equipped kitchen and dining area, a spacious double bedroom and a baby cot can be provided. Outside there is a gorgeous pool overlooking the valley and a private terrace with table and sun loungers. In the garden there is a wood burning pizza oven, BBQ and childrens play area.
Experience the ways of the local people, get to know the horses, sheep and goats and relax round the pool. Exploring the local area, enjoying the fresh mountain air and absorbing the ambience of the ancient villages which can transport you back in time. The centre of the village of Silico, with its tiny piazzas and impressive buildings is 2 minutes walk from the farm. The local bar and restaurant is well known in the area and is the local’s best kept secret for watching the glorious sunsets.
Selections of cheeses, salamis and ham, produced on the farm, are available from the owners.
Il Colletino Buffardello is a special place for a holiday. The village of Silico is within easy distance of the market town of Castelnuovo in the beautiful Garfagnana region of Tuscany. The farm boasts panoramic views of the valley and is in a good position for enjoying country life with the bustle of the nearby market town a short drive away. Within easy distance by car or train of the art cities of Lucca, Siena, Florence and Pisa this is an ideal location for a visit to Tuscany.
Garfagnana is ‘Hidden Tuscany’ at its best. With its stunning scenery it is the best area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities. We have close ties with an Outdoor Activities company who offer many international class adventures.
Castelnuovo, the nearby market town, has many restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Food in Garfagnana: The area is renowned for its good value rustic, delicious food made using fine local ingredients.
There are dozens of good family run restaurants. A typical set lunch of pasta course, followed by meat and vegetables, with wine, bread and coffee, costs only 10-12 euros, and a typical main course in the evening costs 8-12 euros. Delicious pizzas cost around 4-6 euros.
The village of Silico is very active socially, with an excellent medieval festival held during summer, and other food and drink festivals. There is also an interesting local “peoples” museum.
An outdoor activities company is based in Silico and the locals have carefully signed mapped out fine walks in the immediate area.

We loved staying here. The views from the pool were outstanding and we were surrounded by beautifull chestnut forrests,with some lovely easy walking. It is in a small working farm with sheep, goats and chickens. The owner gave us free eggs and homemade wine. We stayed in the appartment named Buffardello which was well equipped except there were only 2 mediocre wine glasses despite there being a big dishwasher. We thought the decor was dull and could do with being refreshed.The bed was a good size and comfortable. The owners were really friendly and they had a very friendly dog.The nearby village was a beautiful hilltop medieval one with a good cafe/restaurant and a little shop. It was easy to walk to. To do a proper shop it was a bit of a trek to the local town as the accommodation is located at 700 metres up a road with lots of hairpins. We did some of the local walks all of which were in the forrest and also some hill walking further a field.It is easy to visit Barga and other local towns. Our apartment sitting out area was a bit disappointing as it did not have any spectacular views. It was adjacent to the road which luckily is not a busy one. We noted that some of the other apartments did have the great views and also were furnished in a much more pleasing way. The pool was a great size and we had it to ourselves alot of the time. We loved this place but with some improvements to the accommodation it could be amazing. We would heartily recommend it but try and get one of the better appointed and furnished apartments.

Very pleasant and roomy with stunning views
By on 15-Aug-2017This is a lovely place on a farm high above the valley. The road up is only four miles but very twisty. When we arrived, we found no one there but there were two apartments with keys in the door and no clue as to which was ours. We chose the one with most photos on our confirmation but there were photos of both places. The second one was very dark and we would have been very disappointed with it. The apartment we had was let down only by three things, namely the absence of even a small oven, poor lighting in the main sitting area and the shower head should have been replaced rather than ineffectively taped up. On the other hand, the bed was comfortable, Bruno gave us eggs, tomatoes and wine, all from the farm. The swimming pool is beautifully set but was a touch cold in late September Walks up the hill from Sillico were good. We really liked this place and would give it 8/10. If we had been in the other apartment, it would have been more like 5.
