Introducing SOPHIA, by Jules
“Sophia is one of a suite of three Gozo holiday villas, all set in a peaceful, secluded spot in the village of Ghasri.
Light and space are the first impressions of stepping through the entrance door – and it’s a feeling that stays with you whichever room you’re in. Close behind on first impression-stakes is the stone staircase with its wrought-iron balustrade. Its majestic sweep makes walking upstairs feel like an event.
Limestone archways cleverly define the open space from hall to the lounge to kitchen. In the spacious combined living area light from pool terrace doors further enhances the space. The painted cream wood finish of the kitchen and dining table give both an unmistakeable Mediterranean feel.
A good size private pool and terrace provide plenty of scope for lazy days and al fresco dining using the BBQ.
Continuing Sophia’s central theme, all four bedrooms are generous with space, and a modern finish.
This villa on Gozo is a terrific home base for exploring the riches of Gozo – discover it for yourself.” Jules
Sophia’s reception hall is all about space and presence. There’s a leather sofa in here, but chances are your attention will be drawn to the sweeping stone staircase.
To the right, a stone archway leads you into the living area which combines the kitchen, dining area and lounge. The painted cream finish of kitchen and dining furniture add a Mediterranean feel that’s further enhanced by the Mediterranean light from the patio terrace doors.
The lounge has a couple of 2-seater settees – perfect for relaxation and escaping a hot sun.
Two of Sophia’s bedrooms are on the ground floor.
Bedroom 1 has two single beds.
Bedroom Two also has two single beds with an en-suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom on this floor.
Climbing the feature stone staircase of this Gozo holiday home takes you to a generous first floor landing with a chaise longue. Leading from the landing are bedrooms 3 and 4, and terrace doors that take you out onto the roof terrace.
Bedroom 3 has two singles beds.
Bedroom 4 has two single beds with an en-suite shower. There’s also a family shower room on this floor.
All bedrooms are particularly spacious and could accommodate additional sleeping arrangements for children. For more information, just ask.
The private pool is surrounded by a sun terrace that features sun loungers, a table with chairs and a BBQ.
If you take the Victoria-Gharb road to the Aqueduct and fork right you will find the smallest village on the island nestled between the hills of iz-Zebbug and Ghammar.
The village of Ghasri sits amongst the fields and valleys of rural Gozo near to Victoria’s commanding Citadel and close to one of the best swimming spots on the island. Worthy of a stop is Tal Gordan a flat topped hill with an iconic lighthouse. At 180 metres above sea level the Lighthouse towers over the village and stands proudly on top of Gurdan Hill. Inaugurated in 1853 the Lighthouse’ beam could be seen as far as 50 kilometres away so affords a fantastic 360 degree view when you get there. It’s a must for ramblers.
From Ghasri village square a road leads to the fabulous valley of Wied l-Ghasri 2.3km away from your Gozo holiday farmhouse. The Wied l-Ghasri area is a marvellous place for country walks or rewarding cycle rides especially in winter and spring. The valley ends at the sea wedged between high cliffs where a secluded inlet makes an ideal spot for swimming snorkelling and together with the sea surrounding it a very popular spot for diving.
On the way be sure to stop at the charming old chapel dedicated to the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The two shallow bays of Xwejni and Qbajjar are both 4.1 Km away. Next to each other they have small pebbly beaches and rocky stretches that lead to clear blue water. Excellent for swimming they are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike and are popular with divers especially beginners. You’ll also find a few fishing boats here and a couple of bars and restaurants on the sea front.
The feast of Ghasri is celebrated on the first or second Sunday in June and is dedicated to Corpus Christi. Victoria has two big feasts one in the third week of July and the other on 15 August.
The closest beaches just 5 km away and there is also a supermarket, TheLighthouse, 900 meters from the property. The closest Restaurants are Ta Salvina and Grazie Mille 2.6 km walk in the village of Gharb. A little further, 3.2km, you will find the Kempinski Hotel, one of the islands 5* hotels and restaurant, Tatitas, in the village square.
The capital, Victoria is 3.5 km away with a bus stop 100 metres from the property.
The 308 bus will bring you to the centre of Victoria where you will find a wide range of shops cafes bars and restaurants - and a wealth of history.
