A little about location:

Pieve is situated in an historic village location with beautiful mountain views.
There are various good restaurants in the area providing fresh local home cooked traditional food within a short drive, with a couple of good restaurants within easy walking distance.
Also in the village are local one off shops, delicatessens, gelaterias and supermarket. One of the delis offers hot and cold food freshly prepared food to take away with a daily changing menu - just delicious!
For relaxing afternoons out, there are lots of pretty villages to explore in the immediately locality, one of which is fully walled commanding outstanding views over the Apuane mountains. Many of these villages have festas in the summer with food, drink and dancing.
Situated only a short drive from the National Park of Orrecchiella, the location is ideal for walking, hiking, horseriding, mountain biking and picnicking, surrounded by views of the seemingly endless mountains, and local chestnut woodland.
For those who enjoy the outdoor life there is also a local tree climbing/zip wiring park, with courses adapted for all age groups, from the very young to adults.
There are local adventure parks where one can try water canyoning, rock climbing, swimming in rock pools, canoeing etc and there is the Grotta del Vento, a massive cave system in the mountains which is a good day out.
There is an ancient fortress to visit with jaw dropping views, and interactive displays for children including a chance to try a little archery.
For when a townie day beckons, the local market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is less than a 5 minute drive. Here there are bars, restaurants, a famous Thursday morning market, old castle walls, the river Serchio and local train station.
The beautiful mediaeval town of Barga with its cobbled streets, great architecture, cathedral and great views is only a 20 minute drive. Barga is famous for its art and music, and here one can often enjoy free music, evening markets, dancing, and sometimes even impromptu entertainment from Paolo Nutini! Becoming well known for its restaurants too, Barga has plenty of places to eat.
Lucca, the fully walled Mediaeval City and the Capital of the Region is only an hours drive and one can spend the day cycling or meandering along its ample walls; people watching in both the grand and tiny piazzas with prosecco, coffee or ice cream; designer shopping; climbing towers, visiting some of its 99 churches or just taking in the atmosphere. If you like opera, there is a recital every evening before dinner in a unique church setting. Less than an hour.
The traditional Tuscan sites of Pisa and Florence are easily do-able in a day trip as are the beaches of Forte dei Marmi or Viareggio. Many guests also visit the Cinque Terre...
In summary, Pieve is a perfect location to enjoy the countryside, yet be within walking distance of facilities. A good location well placed to explore the area - both mountains and towns/cities.

We had a wonderful week (12-19 August) at Pieve Fosciana - Borgo Fondo La Tera is a beautiful, friendly and convenient holiday home, and had just about everything we could have wanted.
Flaviano was so helpful and welcoming. It was a delight to talk to him and other residents in an impromptu pizza evening.
Il Pozzo, the restaurant in the village, was also excellent, wonderful food and very friendly staff.

Just Perfect!

By on 30-Jul-2016

Had a wonderful. Everything was perfect both indoor and outdoor. Very rustic Italian with all mod cons and spotlessly clean throughout. Fabulous large pool, and beautiful gardens. Views to die for. Great hosts who could not do enough to help. Felt very relaxed and could not rate this accommodation in Pieve highly enough.

A perfect hideaway

Surrounded by countryside and views of mountains, in the picturesque village of Pieve Fosciana. Wake up to roosters and the church bells every morning. Walking distance from a good restaurant. Very peaceful and relaxing! Totally recommended.

Lovely stay

By Mike Poulson, London. on 18-Jul-2015

we had a really lovely stay at Pieve. The pool and gardens were lovely and the owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Next year they are serving breakfast as well apparently. Felt remote yet only a short walk into town for shops and restaurant. Also only 5 minutes from Castelnuovo. Thank you Flaviano and family.

“A lovely oasis in the Garfagnana”

By on 23-Aug-2014

Flaviano and family couldn't do enough for us. They made our stay incredibly easy, with suggestions of where to go and a running guide to all the festivals going on in the area. The pool and grounds are wonderfully kept and it is so very quiet. Just the usual bells and the odd farmyard sound! All shops and a lovely restaurant are a few minutes' walk away.
One evening, Flaviano invites you to make pasta and then his friend Marcello cooks you a fabulous meal with it. A great experience! The kids and we loved it: we will be back.

“beautiful relaxing retreat in beautiful tuscan countryside”

By on 26-Jul-2014

This was a beautifully situated property. It had plenty of space around the apartments, the pool was very clean and a welcome cool down from the heat. The small village town was on your door step with all you need in amenities. It was very traditional with the locals speaking limited English but very friendly this made it all the nicer as you felt you were getting to experience the real Italy. Take a phrase book, we ordered rabbit by mistake!! The town was a picture as was all the local tradtional villages.
The apartments were perfect, very clean. We were worried about the lack of air conditioning however upon arrival the temperature was 35+ outside and the apartment was lovely and cool. It is my understanding as the result of it being an old building with thick walls. The apartment was well equipped and more than comfortable. The pool is also just at the doorstep.
The best part of the stay was the warm welcome we recieved by Flanviano and his family. They were more than kind and assisted in all of our needs. They really went the extra mile to make our stay special.
You do need a car for this property and a strong heart as the Italians are sharp drivers! to say the least. If you are prepared to drive and want a traditional experience this is perfect.
Our children had a ball. Loving the pool and all the traditional Italian food and villiages. We spend a day at a local park which Flaviano recommmended and again this was fantastic both of them loving it.
All in all we hope to return soon!!
