A Labour of Love
By Tony Sammut - London on 26-Feb-2019
The villa is located in a tiny hamlet with very friendly, kind and child loving but unobtrusive neighbours, so we were in our own world but not isolated. The closest town Fivizzano has all one could ask for or need, a good choice of food shops; 3 butchers, a fishmonger, 2 bakers, several restaurants and bars, a gelatteria, as well as a weekly market. The house is obviously a labour of love and we were thrilled to be able to experience it, the weeks flew by. Without doubt we will return.
Thank you once again for the most welcome Welcome Hamper

From our very first visit to Villa Terra di Luna we felt like we had been transported to the land of milk and honey (perhaps more appropriate.....the land of mozzarella and olive oil!) and instantly knew we were home!
Fivizzano and more specifically the village of Valazzana, tucked in the northwest corner of Tuscany hugs the Italian Riviera and is a short drive to either Florence or Pisa. It’s also only minutes away to the Liguria region and the gorgeous coastal towns of Santa Margherita or the world-class hot spot, Portofino!
In any number of the coastal towns in this immediate area one can truly savour the best Mediterranean fish on the planet!
The Villa Terra di Luna is an expansive, historical home and has breathtaking and truly majestic views of the Apennine Mountains. It is totally stylish and has all the comfort accommodations anyone would ask for including a dramatically situated pool. This villa is one of our favourite spots in all of Italy and could best be described as “Tuscan Heaven” at it’s finest!

I am writing to say how much my wife and family enjoyed our holiday at your house Villa Terra di Luna in Tuscany.
The house is magnificent, plenty of room and fully equipped to a very hight standard. The kitchen was outstanding with excellent amenities. Very well thought through.
The swimming pool was an absolute joy to use, as were the comfortable sun lougners. We enjoyed having lots of barbecues on one fo the terrace areas outside the kitchen.
The peaceful and quiet environment was a heavenly experience, you could hear the silence.
The views from the terraces and bedrooms were breathtaking, with the village of Fivizzano in the distance. We enjoyed shopping and having coffee in the square of this delightful village.
Day trips took us to Lerici, Lucca, Pisa and Parma, just to name a few.
A perfect holiday enjoyed by all and we will soon be booking for this year.
Amazing - a little bit of heaven.

We simply loved our two weeks at Villa Terra di Luna. The house is absolutely amazing, tastefully and artistically furnished. The kitchen is especially well equipped, a cooks dream; eating Al Fresco in the various outdoor dining areas was a joy. The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are all beautiful.
The privacy of the bedroom at the pool level was a little bit of heaven, the views of the mountains from the house are incredible. We spent much of the time outside as the the days and nights werm warm, yet comfortable. The lovely living room and dining scarcely got used but they are there and add a lot of the feeling of the house.
We hope that we may all gather there again very soon.
Dream in Lunigiana

My family and I stayed for two weeks in the summer at The Villa Terra di Luna is a traditional stone house and it matched to the surrounding landscape. When we opened the door, the interior was a fusion of contemporary taste and modern design, thanks to the taste of the owner, we felt very comfortable during our stay. The house also has a beautiful garden and terraces with a swimming pool and barbeque. The house was located in the centre of the Lunigiana region, and as my wife and I like to cycle the hill climb around the area was perfect. I highly recommend to visit, and I would also like to visit there again.

We had a wonderful stay at the Villa Terra di Luna. Michael, the owner, has created something quite special and it was our privilege to spent some time there. The photographs do not do the villa justice. Michael remained respectfully available with advise and local knowledge when required which further added to our enjoyment of the holiday.
Evenings spent on the terrace with a glass of wine admiring the quite spectacular views will be long remembered. We were all very sorry to leave.

Michael Playford promised us an unforgettable holiday – and that’s exactly what we had!
We stayed 2 weeks at Villa Terra di Luna from the end of August until beginning of September. This architecturally outstanding home is located in the region of northern Tuscany and the landscape is breathtaking.
The whole property, especially the extraordinary pool area was very clean and maintained daily by an adorable Italian lady.
We appreciated knowing the owner Michael Playford lived next door. He received us with kindness and hospitality and was always helpful in any way.
We mainly cooked our meals at the house using the beautiful well equipped kitchen.
Our most memorable souvenir goes to our three unforgettable dinners organized by Michael. A local young chef- helped by his charming wife- prepared outstanding dinners from local products which we enjoyed on the spacious terrace having a spectacular view over the Apennine mountains.
We are already missing the house and the nice people who cared for us- we will most certainly return !
Wonderful retreat in Northern Tuscany
By Darryl R. on 18-Nov-2013
We had a fantastic time staying at the Villa Terra di Luna near Fivizzano in Northern Tuscany, our first trip to Italy as a family of 4, with two children aged 7 and 4. The villa was incredibly spacious and full of character and you could see that the owner Michael had spent a significant amount of time restoring it and decorating it to a high standard.
It is located in a small hamlet of villas and is very quiet, but has wonderful views over the valley and towards the Apuane Alps.
The highlight had for us had to be the split level outdoor area which had a great BBQ and large, communal table near the villa with the pool and other areas lower down. The salt water pool was the main attraction, and the kids loved being in it at every opportunity. It had a large shallower area which made it ideal for our youngest to start to learn to swim. The surrounding area had enough loungers and shaded areas to suit all tastes which meant you could spend all your time in the villa if you wished without venturing out further. The fact that the pool was on a different level and gated off meant we could also keep the children safe when required.
Whilst the surrounding area may not be the typical Tuscan landscape, the local town of Fivizzano has a strong sense of community. We were lucky enough to be there to see "La Disfida degli Arcieri di Terra e di Corte" medieval procession and archery competition and the central square had a number of places to eat and drink both during the day and in the evening which have been commented on in previous reviews.
Further afield, the villa is ideally placed to visit the Cinque Terre, Pisa and Lucca.
As it was July when we visited, we obviously had warm temperatures in the high 20's and low 30's, however due to the mountains and general elevation the area can be prone to Summer storms which did sometimes knock out the power for a short period of time.
Finally, the owner Michael Playford was very helpful and helped to point out local attractions and places to eat and visit.
Magical stay in Terra di Luna
By Alette S. on 13-Nov-2013
We had a great time while at Michael's home. It was unfortunate that there was a cold snap and we were unable to fully enjoy the outside areas. The house is just as pictured, very comfortable with all the conveniences.
We did have a wonderful hike to the beautiful small village a short distance below. The countryside and mountain views are breathtaking.
The home was clean and well organized with a fabulous kitchen for chatting and cooking.
I would recommend this house if you are staying in Northern Tuscany.

For one week we stayed at the Villa Terra di Luna with our 5 Teenies and we had a wonderful time. The great outdoor area did invite us to barbeque almost every evening and we engoyed the silence of this lovely area. We all loved the interior design and the kitchen was also a great place to be.
Thanks to Michael, the owner of the house, we also found some very good restaurants in the area.
The property with the wonderful swimmingpool was very clean and perfectly maintained. We would recommend this property to everyone! Hopefully we can come back to spend another great time at this fantastic place with its magic view.

Our week long stay at Villa Terra di Luna in July 2011 could not have been better. The villa is outstanding in every aspect. All that owner Michael Playford has written on his website to describe the villa as a home built and designed with attention to detail, elegance and comfort is entirely true. This is a fantastic property!
Our party consisted of 6 adults. The 4 bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We all had use of our own bathrooms. The common rooms provide plenty of space for relaxation and the furniture is of a very high standard. We enjoyed time in the kitchen which is large, modern, well-equipped and became a focal point for our family gatherings. And, to top it all off, the pool, patios and gardens situated as they are within the large property to take advantage of the magnificent countryside, makes the overall northern Tuscanny experience at Villa Terra di Luna one that you will never forget - peaceful, breathtaking, wonderful! I give it a 10/10. Kudos to you Michael.
Fantastic holiday retreat

We were two families with children, traveling in Tuscany in June 2011. Overall, we were very pleased with the facilities. The owner has done an exceptional job at renovating this villa. Stylish, yet relaxed and comfortable. Clean and well maintained.
The kitchen is large and well equipped and the al fresco dining area is superb. Bedrooms are roomy and cozy. Pool area is very nice, with comfortable sun beds and a refreshing outside shower to cool down if you don't feel like taking a plunge into the pool.
The view is amazing, be it at dawn, day or dusk.
The website gives a good idea of the premises. While photos can be deceiving, in this case, what you see is what you get.
Owner and caretaker were helpful in every way.
All in all, we had a great quality time and would certainly consider this property again.
Architecture & Ambiance
By Rosanna Neuchâtel / Switzerland on 14-Jan-2011
Our stay in Villa Terra di Luna was exceptional. Its authentic taste and warm ambiance are mingled so naturally and harmoniously that it creates comfort and peace without any pretension. It is also surprisingly practical, everything is designed to function. Michael Playford has succeeded to integrate the collections of art and design into a ‘living’ space. Also, it is located in northern Tuscany, preserved with its genuine beauty and tradition, its inhabitants welcoming and kind. My family and I have spent a week surrounded by extraordinary aesthetics and generous atmosphere.
We'll be back
By Paul G.aachen / Germany on 13-Jan-2011
We and our various friends and family have spent our holidays at Villa Terra di Luna three years in a row and we will be sure to continue. Happy times have we spent there and has always been satisfying. Starting with the beautiful house with the elegant furniture and the top quality bathrooms, an other highlight is the professional kitchen . sometimes we hire a wonderful local chef to cook a delicious dinner. The garden with the pool invites you to relax and enjoy also have some exercise.
It is also very helpful to have the English , German and Italian speaking concierge and the lovely hamper.
we could go on with more positive experiences, such as the lovely villages and cities near by , but we can only say try it for yourself. We are sure to come back next year .
Thank you again
Truly Awe Inspiring
By Michael, Norr, And FamilyKnightsbridge, London on 09-Jan-2011
Our stay at the Villa Terra di Luna-was fabulous waking up early in the morning seeing the sun rise and creep up the valley with that wonderful vista was truly awe inspiring-the house was laid out beautifully with wonderful furnishings and the kitchen(according to my wife) was a foodies paradise. We had lazy afternoons laying by the beautiful pool and wonderful early mornings and late afternoons exploring the local villages. I can only explain it as equivalent to staying in a medieval valley where agriculture is the main way of life but living in a villa which would not be out of place on the upper east side of Manhattan-sophisticated and cool. I challenge even the most overworked, stressed out businessman not to be able to relax after a day or two -marvellous- we look forward to coming back at Xmas.
A villa of peace and nature
By Paul & Carina - Stockholm on 29-Dec-2010
We have been fortunate to experience Villa Terra di Luna over the last three years, spring, summer and autumn. All the seasons have been equally wonderful, always serene and relaxing. What surprised me most was the abundance of flowers and greenery in the high summer. The house is very spacious with a full professionally equipped kitchen, luxurious bathrooms, comfortable beds, great lounge and dining area in kitchen and adjacent room, Interested in architecture and design I have never stayed in another villa which has been touched with such passion by the owner, as Villa Terra de Luna. We have had some wonderful cooking evenings after fetching supplies from the nearby village, Fivizzano. If you are lucky to be staying when the figs are ripe, you find them in abundance close to the house. The terrace leading down to the wonderful pool is a perfect place for dining and relaxation. It has total privacy with such stunning views of the valley and mountains, that it feels like they are there exclusively for you. We felt totally at ease and in awe at the silhouettes of the mountains and the sounds of cow bells at night. We highly recommend the villa. It has everything you can possibly ask for. We have had the most relaxing holidays in the house. The beauty and serenity of the house, views and the tiny village itself
