Villa Ellie is a detached modern villa with its own private 32 sq metre swimming pool on a small development of nine villas set at the edge of a quiet village surrounded by farmland, olive groves and orchards but with a supermarket, taverna and kafeneion within easy walking distance. It has an open plan lounge/dining room/kitchen furnished with locally made bamboo furniture and with a corner fireplace housing a traditional wood burning fire. The kitchen is fully fitted with a full oven, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There are two twin bedded bedrooms each with its own en-suite shower room and doors leading out to the terrace. EOT licence MHTE1041K92003162401

Outside there is a large tiled pergola to the front, side and rear of the villa providing plenty of shady seating space. The side pergola overlooks the 32 sq m swimming pool with sunbeds, a poolside shower and a large paved terrace leading to the BBQ area. The villa is situated in a tiered garden with oleanders, bougainvillea, olive and lemon trees and grapevines which looks out across the olive groves. There is parking for one car.

Changeover days are flexible. The property will be available from 3pm on the day of arrival and guests must leave by 12pm on the day of departure. These times are negotiable depending on the timing of other bookings before and after your booking.

Towels (including beach towels) and bed linen are provided. The property is cleaned between visits and an extra set of towels and bed linen is provided for a two week stay.

Ideal for couples and families with older children. Unfortunately the property is unsuitable for people with mobility problems as it is built on a number of levels and there are steps from the road/car parking area to the villa and further steps down to the lower garden/gazebo. We regret it is also unsuitable for very young children as the pool graduates from 1.2 to 1.7 metres deep and the grounds are on two levels with steps down to a gazebo area and a lower garden area which is not fenced. We are unable to accept pets. Smoking outside the villa only please.

How to get there
The nearest airport is Heraklion which is about 40 miles away along the coast road. Chania airport is about 60 miles away. Car hire is not essential if you just want a relaxing holiday visiting the local area but if you want to explore the island, reach the foothills of the mountains, the valleys and the gorges and the south coast it would prove difficult and time consuming without one. Car hire is available locally or from the airport.

The nearest beach is at the picturesque coastal village of Panormo which is about 2 kilometres away. Panormo has a harbour and two small beaches and a variety of shops, tavernas, bars and supermarkets as well as a baker. There is a half hourly bus service from Panormo into the centre of Rethymnon from early morning until late evening. Rethymnon is about a 20 minute drive away by car.

The local shops, kafeneions and taverna are five minutes walk from the villa. Panormo is approximately 2km or a 25 minutes walk away through the village and the olive groves. The town of Rethymnon is a 20 minute drive away or can be reached by bus from Panormo. Rethymnon is a historic town with a Venetian harbour and fortress. It has a long sandy beach and numerous shops, tavernas and bars.
A "little train" runs two trips from Panormo to the pottery village of Margarites in the foothills of Mount Ida and to the typical Cretan village of Melidoni and on to the Melidoni cave.

Cancelled holiday

By Jamie Bruce on 05-Jun-2020

Despite the fact we never made it to Villa Ellie due to Covid-19, we had the best experience dealing with Carole the owner. We were forced to cancel the booking due to the travel restrictions inflicted upon us, however, Carole offered us a full refund of our deposit as we were unable to travel during the alternative dates she offered us. Her communication throughout has been second to none. We will definitely try and book this villa for a future date and cannot recommend Carole highly enough.

Going Back Next Year!

The location of this villa is superb. Access to nearby village and for getting around to discover more of the island makes this an ideal home from home.

Smith Family August 2019

By Mike on 26-Jul-2019

Stayed here as a family of four for 14nights late July/early August. Villa, owner and local host were all great and I’d fully recommend to anyone wanting to stay in this region. Price was good and iwner was flexible allowing us late departure on our last day (late evening return flight). The villa is lovely and the pictures don’t fully do it justice. The pool is kept clean regularly and the villa itself was highly equipped with more than enough home comforts. Air con in both bedrooms was essential at this time of year and this worked well.
Would recommend a car due to location but not essential as buses can be used within 15min walk if you don’t have the nerve for Greek roads! All in all a lovely place and owner and hope to return Again in future.

Villa Ellie, Roumeli, Crete

By Judith O'Shea on 13-Aug-2017

We had a lovely holiday in Villa Ellie. It is in a quiet village, Roumeli near the North Coast . It has a very nice pool which is on a secluded terrace, so although close to some other villas is is very peaceful and not at all overlooked. The villa itself was very well equipped and comfortable, with 2 twin rooms both with en suite shower rooms and a spacious sitting room , and the rooms have air con so it was easy to keep cool.
Carole's directions to the villa and all the extra information was very helpful so we had no problems finding it. We flew to Chania and its quite easy to navigate the roads with a hire car, but Iraklion is only slightly further away so either airport would do.
Roumeli has a shop and a couple of cafes, and the seaside town of Panormos is about 2 km away and has lots of shops and restaurants.
By driving 22 kn West along the coast road to Rethymnon it is possible to take a drive through the hills to the south coast, in about 1.5 hours to explore the beaches in the south, the scenery en route is spectacular.
The villa is well placed to visit lots of the major cities and sites, Knossos took us about 1 1/4 hours.
I would recommend it for a holiday!

Super villa

This really is a Gem of a Villa. It is so well situated with everything you may want in walking distance. The Villa itself is lovely. On our arrival it was spotless and had been cleaned to a very high standard. The Welcome Pack was lovely. There was everything in the villa that you would need, except maybe a toast rack, but then that's just me. There are so many lovely places to go and see, it's difficult to fit everything in, we couldn't, so I am sure we will visit again. The gardens are a pleasure, the flowers quite exotic. A car is useful, but not necessary, though if you want to get about, it is best to hire one.

Great villa

Spent a relaxing week at this villa and as somebody else has said the photos do not do it justice. The living area has a lovely high ceiling so the space feels really light and open. Nice little touches around make the villa very welcoming. The position of the villa means you get a good breeze which was lovely but disguises how hot it really is! I enjoyed my role of pool cleaner - the pool is surrounded by plants so bugs do drop in but easily scooped off with the net. Panormo is a lovely little resort with some good restaurants tucked in the side streets. I would recommend hiring a car.

Holiday Villa

We sayed here in August, this summer ,and had the most Amazing two weeks!! Fantastic hosts, Wonderful Villa, beautifully laid -out and spotlessly clean!-in the most "blissful" surroundings! The pool and terrace area is stunning-"laying by the pool, surrounded by beautiful colours , and smells of Jasmine and Beoganvilia, listening to the goats being herded was "idyllic"!- We could have stayed forever! Great situation too- the town of Panormos is very pretty, and typically Greek, with a wonderful harbour front, and fabulous restaurants! The major cities of Chania, Rethymnon-with beautiful Venetian harbours ,are within easy reach too! In fact , there was so much to do that we will return again ....soon! We loved it! Thank you so much for an Amazing holiday!!

We had a very enjoyable holiday at Villa Roumeli and I would thoroughly recommend it for a relaxed, laid-back break. The villa is clean, attractive and well-appointed and has a lovely outside area comprising pool, shady terrace, outside furniture. The key-holder lives nearby and is very helpful. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and Panormo, the local beach, is a picturesque, lively coastal village with lots of little shops and tavernas. Larger towns Rethymnon, Iraklio and Chania are all within driving distance, are lively and historically fascinating and are definitely worth a visit. Although it's useful to have a car,it's not absolutely essential and Roumeli has a good little supermarket and a couple of good, friendly tavernas. There is plenty to do if you want an active holiday (walking, caves, sightseeing), and the villa is perfect for relaxing and spending lazy days by the pool. We would love to holiday there again.

The villa was as listed: very well equipped, spacious, modern and very clean. A quiet location with good facilities in the village: supermarket, tavernas, places of interest within a short drive. The owner was very informative before and after our stay and the local English house keeper very welcoming and helpful. We would recommend this property and area.
