Pure Portugal Aug 2018
By Natasja on 27-Aug-2018
grtz. Frank, Natasja, Feij, Noor en Raf
In the first week of August 2018 we stayed in Covas, Portugal. The route up from Villa Nova de Cerveira to Covas is already beautiful, with beautiful views and several hairpin bends. When you arrive in Covas and you leave the main road to the holiday home, wow as pure Portugal. Narrow streets with cobblestones, beautiful houses, grape bushes, friendly people, etc. Eventually you arrive at a wooden double gate and then see the beautiful house of the owners. Once we have parked the car, we walk up to the garden via a gentle staircase and see the lovely swimming pool first. Here our kids have been entertained for many hours every day. Nice and clean every day and fresh. Then slightly further up you see the house with a lovely terrace covered by grapes and a beautiful view over the mountains. Inside a spacious kitchen, with dining area, sitting suite, a bedroom with bathroom. Here, too, everything is nice and clean. About 10 meters beside the house is a smaller house with bedroom and bathroom. In this 2 of our children slept. Perfect.
We really enjoyed the peace and the super nice environment. Within a radius of half an hour , you will arrive at the most beautiful places and routes by car. The sea is nice and close.
Good food in Covas, shopping at the local "supermarket".
But in principle you do not have to leave your holiday home, because you can enjoy yourself here with a book, a game, a swim in the pool, just do nothing or just a chat with the owners.
We will definitely come back again,

My husband and I stayed here in the middle of September and absolutely loved it. The cottages is set in a quiet little village in a valley in the northern mountains of Portugal.
The accommodation itself is wonderful - Sam & Jan are wonderful hosts who make you feel welcome and yet leave you alone if you wish. We stayed in the main 1 bedroom villa. It has everything you need including a washing machine if your staying for long periods of time. The bed is amazing and had the best nights sleeps you could ask for. It was nice to have the opportunity to watch UK TV shows as well as well as having the opportunity to sit outside underneath the vines and eat BBQ's and just soak in the atmosphere. There's a big supermarket not that far away - 20mins over the hill which was really convenient. I would thoroughly recommend doing the coast around the area and also driving through the National Park which is not too far away either. There are so many quaint little villages to see and Jan has provided loads of information on the areas to see - which was very helpful.
We would definitely come back here again - to either sight-see or just sit by the pool and relax. We highly recommends coming in June - when everything in the fantastic gardens are in bloom….

We had a wonderful time in Covas the place was so beautiful, peaceful and a warm and welcoming atmosphere our whole experience was beyond our expectation. We all wish we had booked one more week....(we have been to the Algarve before and we were ready to go home after a week... but this time we all wanted stay for several more weeks
Driving though the mountains you see wonderful rivers and fantastic scenery it is absolutely stunning, Valenca boasts a beautiful old fortress town and is definitely worth a visit, Caminha & Praia de Ancora was great fun and we had several fish lunches there.
Cerveira's Saturday market was very lively! There are lots of other places to visit nearby too but nothing like just chillaxing in the garden 30m pool and walk around the grounds and Covas is so peaceful.
You feel so relaxed and calm it is a retreat and what a holiday is all about!!!
We had a lunch at one of local restaurant Fontela and it was a great experience and delicious!!! I am so happy that we have found this unique location.
Thank you Janet for letting us stay in your beautiful cottages we will definitely be back there soon as we can and would love to visit Covas in a different season too.
