The Bread Oven Cottage

Le Four a Pain (max 2 people)

Our popular Wendy-house for adults, ‘The Bread Oven’ is a picturesque old stone building with French oak beams and terracotta tiled floor as well as the beautifully restored original oven feature! No you don’t have to cook in it – just turn on a spotlight! Outside the lovely garden terrace is centered around an ancient, mysteriously shaped ‘roll-right stone’.

Ground Floor
A large picture window overlooks the orchard and swimming pool, the comfortable living/dining area has a table and chairs for two as well as fold down bed-settee, plus a flat screen TV for watching DVD's and a USB music tower. The adjoining kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washbasin.

Mezzanine
Set above on a galleried wooden floor, up some fairly steep steps – there is a bannister! - is a double bedroom with a window overlooking a magnificent mature walnut tree.

Heated pool & spa

Our sparkling heated swimming pool is simply fabulous. Measuring a huge 12 x 6 metres it is usually open from late-April to early-October for the complete enjoyment of everyone - you and your partner, your friends or family.

The Moulin pool is securely alarmed and has three wide non-slip Roman steps – perfect for just sitting with a book when it’s hot - plus a terraced surround with plenty of sun-loungers, deck-chairs and parasols. The evening sunset is fantastic! .

If it’s a bit too cool for the pool, or you just enjoy star-gazing into the amazingly clear night skies, we also have a six-person hot-tub/spa in a terraced corner of the main courtyard. At 38 degrees, the hot-jets – cooler in the summer! - and bubbles provide wonderful relaxation at any time of year.

Please click the link to our comprehensive website for lots more information, details and photos of the other facilities and services we can offer here such as Jude's restaurant quality home-cooked evening meals. There are also details of the many other famous Loire Valley chateau attractions in the area plus the amazing zoo and its pandas, as well as the nearby medieval town of Loches and it's wonderful fresh market produce.

Carp Fishing in France at the Moulin Lake

Our glorious private 2.5 acres Moulin Lake contains some 60 immaculate carp (mirror & common 15-45lbs) – all offering a great challenge.

Only 35 metres from the courtyard cottages, there’s flat, easy-access all around the lake. With 5 decked swims, as well as other good spots and an accessible island, there’s a range of different open water areas to fish into.

Carp fishing in France on your doorstep has rarely been so appealing!

There are now 18 weeks when the Moulin Lake CAN be booked exclusively for 2-4 fishermen during April/May and September/October for 1,160 euros, but only by renting the Fisherman’s Cottage.

Set in 15 acres of lush meadows and woodland, the Moulin Lake is stream-fed with fresh water, while an overflow ensures good circulation and oxygenation all year. It is also fed by a natural spring beneath the waters, so it never dries out, even during hot summers.

The lake is lined by a wide variety of mature trees and wild flowers, while abundant wildlife, including kingfishers, woodpeckers and red squirrels, simply add to the delightful carp fishing environment.

There are three decked swims on the nearest bank. Two overlook the deeper area of the lake – around 5 feet – and the third is between some large willows, near the feature island in the centre – another popular fishing spot.

The two remaining swims are on the opposite side of the lake which tapers to around three feet deep at the shallower silty-bottomed top end where the stream water constantly enters the lake.

Carp fishing for four anglers is comfortable if everyone is respectful – we’ve had some cracking competition and banter, but no arguments yet! There are no outside ‘day tickets’. Only those booked into a cottage can fish..

The lake is carefully supplemented most years by adding a selection of quality mirrors and commons from arguably France’s top carp supplier.

Visit - it's such a special place!

By Larry & Veronica Hale on 22-Jul-2017

We've just come back from another lovely week in the Bread Oven at the Moulin. Once again, we didn't want to leave. Tranquility and indulgence - the combination of a fabulous carp fishing lake, pool, spa, comfortable accommodation, amazing food and lovely local wines will keep us coming back time and again. Not to mention our most wonderful hosts, Jude and Julian. Jude's cooking and Julian's wines are just sublime. We can't recommend this place highly enough, this was our third visit and it's definitely become our 'happy place'. Larry caught almost 500lb of carp over the week, many really lovely looking fish and a great challenge. We didn't beat his 40lbs PB caught here in 2014, but our return visit is already booked for next June as we reckon that must be a big one by now! Visit, it's such a special place.

Just a cracking place for a week away!

By Mark Broadley & Samantha Castle on 20-May-2017

This was our third visit and we have now stayed in all three different cottages here, but as a couple, we really like the Bread Oven, and the owners, Jude and Julian are fantastic hosts. The lovely Moulin Lake has carp from 15-35lbs plus, all good hard-fighting and pristine looking fish with immaculate mouths. We caught 700 lbs of carp including a handful of good thirties, plus Sam set a new Women’s Lake Record with her 34.7lbs mirror! This is just a cracking place for a week away. We love it!

What a gem! Can't recommend this place enough!

By Andrew & Joanne Turner on 03-Sep-2016

What a gem this place is if you want to get chilled out with fantastic carp fishing, a relaxing pool and great food . Julian and Jude are lovely hosts and have got the balance just right, brilliant to deal with, there if you need help and local knowledge, otherwise let you get on with it. We have stayed before in the Gardener’s Cottage, and had a great time, but for this return trip we took the Bread Oven over August Bank holiday week. This is perfect accommodation for two people, cosy, romantic and really works well. Jude's meals are amazing, can be booked while you are there, and Julian gives the story behind your wine choice which all makes for a great way to spend an evening. The carp fishing is amazing and we both smashed our PB's using the in-house boilies, catching a series of 30lb+ carp, all in beautiful condition. Can't recommend this place enough. We are already planning another trip, this time for a fortnight in the Fisherman’s cottage with our family in July next year.

Best fortnight's holiday ever!

By Laura Victor & Andrew Sales on 14-May-2016

What can we say – Best Fortnight’s holiday Ever!! What a lovely place, area, and people! We couldn’t be happier! We went to get away from the city hustle and bustle and to do some carp fishing on the Moulin Lake after it was recommended by friends who had stayed before and we couldn't have asked for anything better. The Moulin Lake itself was wonderful and all the carp we caught were just beautiful. The Bread Oven was lovely and quaint, clean and well-kept with everything we needed. Julian and Jude the owners were also so friendly and helpful, so even though we had never been before, it felt like home. I will struggle to find food as good as the meal Jude cooked for us...we are still dreaming of the Peach Meringue and the Duck in cherry jus. There is also so much to do within 30 mins of the property, and shops are right around the corner, so you don't have far to go to get essentials. The market in Loches was awesome, and cannot say enough about the cheeses and other food there. In short, you can't go wrong spending your carp fishing holiday here, it was well worth every penny! We are already planning our next trip, sadly it won't come soon enough....See you soon Julian and Jude!
