The historic village of Tomich lies within one the Highlands most outstanding glens. Glen Affric, boasting 14 Munro’s, lies south west of the nearby village of Cannich, its unique landscape of lochs, mountains, pine, oak and birch which collectively form the Caledonian Forest have been deemed a National Nature Reserve and a National Scenic Area.
The Affric area is abound with a wide variety of wildlife including Red, Roe and Sika deer, Red Squirrels, badger. foxes and Pine Martins plus a unique and diverse variety of bird life including Black Grouse, Golden Eagles, Ospreys, Crested Tits and the Scottish Crossbill.
The Victorian model village of Tomich forms part of the Guisachan Estate built to serve as the country residence of Lord and Lady Tweedmouth.
Due to ongoing feeding and habitat improvement the list of wildlife now coming out of the wild is somewhat unique and extensive. One of the mammals now visiting during the hours of darkness is unique to the area - the rare and illusive Pine Martin, however there are also badgers, Hedgehogs and foxes on a regular basis along with a vast array of birdlife. It’s not unusual to see Golden Eagles and Red Kites, and ravens overhead.Loch Ness is situated just 14 miles away, Beauly 16 miles away and the Highland capital Inverness approx 35 miles away. The Isle of Skye makes a stunning day trip through outstanding scenery.
The village of Tomich has little to offer in the way of commercial amenities, however, it boasts a wealth of activities for those seeking to reconnect to nature and the great outdoors.
