Moreton House is a grade II listed country house on the outskirts of Bideford in the beautiful north Devon countryside near the coast at Westward Ho! The house has undergone a major refurbishment after half a decade as a boarding school, and this season we are opening our doors to holidaymakers for the first time, offering the opportunity to stay in this stunning historic location, with free run of the landscaped grounds. Guests can now choose from a selection of newly renovated self-contained luxurious apartments, accommodating families or groups requiring anything from 1 to 7 bedrooms.
The Bakehouse provides the perfect getaway for two. A cosy spot offering a queen bedroom with luxurious ensuite shower room plus a gorgeous and quirky kitchen designed around the original old Victorian bread ovens. A dedicated decking area with comfy seating right outside provides a real sun trap allowing you to enjoy sun-up or sun-down, depending on your body clock. A windowseat breakfast bar, farmhouse table and your own BBQ and outdoor dining set give plenty of eating options or space to get out the laptop. You'll have direct access to the gardens and your own parking space. Perfect for a romantic mini-moon or a bit of comfort and refreshment at the end of a day of adventure on the water, or the biking or hiking trails that lie within easy reach of Moreton.
Despite this being a simple suite for two, you needn't be short of space, with communal amenity rooms, including a club room with snooker or billiards, and free run of 5 acres of mature landscaped gardens, with hidden BBQ areas, gazebo, carved animals, fire circles, seating, picnic spots, play equipment, mud kitchen, hobbit house, swings and slides, all set among mature trees and a peaceful traffic-free setting that belie its convenient location just 5 minutes from the centre of Bideford or the beach at Westward Ho!
Bideford is known as the "little white town", nestled on the Torridge estuary with its charming mediaeval bridge, Quayside shops and cafes, and regular ferry service to Lundy island. Just minutes from Appledore Village, surfing at Westward Ho!, the Southwest coast path, Tarka trail cycling and walking route; a short drive to Clovelly, the dramatic Hartland Peninsula and the beaches of Saunton and Croyde, and with easy access to Dartmoor or Exmoor, we are ideally placed to enjoy all the varied attractions of North Devon. We are within a half mile of the A39 Atlantic highway, giving easy access from major driving routes and onward excursions to the North Cornwall coast.
The suite can be booked alone, or in combination with other apartments to give an additional bedroom with a little extra independence. Contact us for combination pricing. Private dining or function rooms can be booked by arrangement. Store room, wash down area and workshop available for surf-boards and bikes, with some available for guests to borrow. Wheelchair access is possible. Well behaved pets are welcome. Concierge and catering services available.

What a treat to stay here....beautifully and sympathetically renovated apartments with great attention to detail and luxurious finishes. Also has great spaces to relax, meet up with friends, have afternoon tea etc. Helen and Harvey are the ultimate hosts and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough !!!

Harvey and Helen were very welcoming and relaxed hosts , we were greeted with a cup of tea and shown round the house which is progressing fabulously ( think escape to the chateau but English ) . We arrived with our slightly batty Weimaraner who immediately took off like a race horse around the extensive grounds , making me feel guilty that he didn’t have this at home !! We then decanted to our suite which was fabulous , top notch finish and immaculate . They were in the process of finishing another suite and informed us that they were planning on introducing residential cookery courses , hence the extensive kitchens in the suites . They also told us they were planning to host weddings and corporate events , which the house would be fabulous for .
Thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay would highly recommend .
Amazing place to stay

We were very pleased with the authentic and refreshing renovation to Moreton House accommodation. First rate facilities with an excellent finish. The individual apartments are well spaced when quiet contemplation is required, but close enough to enjoy a large gathering of friends which brings the house back to life.
