Property Description

Buttercup Cottage is a 2 bedroom barn conversion. It is extremely well insulated keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. The cottage faces south-west and so is in the sun for most of the day.

The ground floor provides a light and airy open-plan living area with a fitted kitchen, dining table and a lounge area with cosy wood burner. Full height windows extend the living space, opening out onto a south-facing patio and graveled courtyard that provide the perfect suntrap from which to enjoy a morning cup of tea or al-fresco dining. The modern bathroom includes a shower over the bath and under floor heating

Upstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms with exposed beams and stripped wood floors, reflecting the character of the original building. The master bedroom is equipped with a comfortable double (4ft 6in) pine bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe with space for a travel cot or standard cot which can be supplied on request.

The second bedroom is equipped with a full size single (3ft 6in) pine bed, a small double (4ft) pine bed and chest of drawers.

Bed linen and towels included. Electric heating and logs for wood burner included. Space for a cot for additional infant in the double bedroom - please request when booking if required. Highchair and Stair Gate also available on request.

Amenities:
There is a mini market at the local garage at Wilmington stocking fresh milk and bread and a basic range of groceries. Also in Wilmington, there is a small farm shop and a thatched pub serving a range of local beers and good local food.

The market town of Honiton (4 miles) has a good range of local shops and a twice weekly street market. Similarly Axminster (7 miles), has a weekly market and boasts the Riverside Cottage shop. Colyton is a smaller town, with interesting little shops, including the award winning Colyton Butchers.

The entire area is rich with excellent country pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. We will be pleased to provide you with our recommendations.

The Roman city of Exeter with its beautiful cathedral and green, and Taunton, the county town of Somerset, are both approximately 18 miles distant. For shoppers, either of these offers a full range of High Street chain stores and individual shops.

Buttercup cottage is well situated for walkers with an excellent network of paths and tracks through the beautiful Devon countryside, many of which can be started from your own front door. The East Devon Way passes within a mile of the cottage, and the spectacular South West Coastal path is nearby. Great place to stay

By Sarah H. on 31-Aug-2022

Location was great. Lovely to have the chickens come to visit. Only a 20 min drive to around 3 different beaches. Owner was lovely and welcome basket was great with much needed milk in the fridge for a cuppa after a long drive. And the cottage had everything we could need. First time in Devon so found the roads a change - the whole area is single lanes. We soon got used to them. One thing to be cautious of is the bees. There were lots around as i believe the owner keeps some. They did not bother us but imagine it may be a factor for some.

Fantastic holiday in a perfect location to explore south Devon.

By Paul G. on 10-Aug-2022

A fantastic experience from beginning to end. Worked really well with a young family. Cottage, garden and setting are beautiful ( the children really enjoyed the play equipment and seeing chickens roaming every day) and with a host that I could not fault, who was so accommodating. We normal visit north Devon and found the location to be perfect to explore what south Devon had on offer. Lovely rural setting but not far in a car to all amenities you could want.

Home from Home

By Christine S. on 03-Aug-2022

This cottage is a little gem tucked away in beautiful countryside, very cosy and well equipped with everything you need. So peaceful it really is a beautiful setting away from it all. Tea, coffee and biscuits were waiting on arrival with some lovely fudge and milk in the fridge. The owners were really nice and willing to help with anything we needed. Our daughter really enjoyed playing on the little play park and the views are amazing. Perfect place to de stress and relax, also close to lots of things to do, we enjoyed lovely beaches and the donkey sanctuary. This is our second year of staying, we will be back.
