This charming house is located on the village square of Mirabel-aux-Baronnies in the Drôme Provençal, a beautiful part of Provence. It was built in 1760 and recently restored in traditional Provencal style, with beautiful beamed ceilings, white walls and colored tiles. The house has a well-equipped kitchen with a view of the village square. The spacious living room has a traditional Provencal fireplace, and ceiling beams. A small room serves as a library and as an extra bedroom with a double bed.
Upstairs are two more double bedrooms, the largest has a view over the garden, the other over the village square. There is a third single room and a bathroom with shower, toilet and bidet.
From the living room, a door leads to the south-facing terrace and the walled garden with roses, irises and the provencal herbs of rosemary and thyme. In the garden you'll find a table and chairs, sunshade and a bbq. This is the ideal place for an aperitif or a game of petanque.
The village of Mirabel-aux-Baronnies is situated 50 km east of the Rhone Valley, in the upper region of Provence, equidistant (8km) from the historic Vaison-la-Romaine to the south and Nyons to the north, a market town famous for its olives. The village lies between the provençal landscape of olive groves and vineyards to the west, and the pre-Alps to the east, offering impressive hiking and mountain bike trails. In summer, there is choice of places to cool off: two waterparks, local rivers, and the spectacular gorge of the Vallée de Toulourenc.
The village has two excellent bakers, a well-stocked small supermarket ('superette') for groceries and local wines, a newsagent, post office etc .. all within a few minutes’ walk from the house. There are also two bars and a local restaurant. The village has tennis courts and table tennis tables for general use (bring your own racquets). Parking is on the square in front of the house. For younger visitors, a high chair and cot are available.

This was a really charming gite in the foothills of Mt Ventoux. Lovely walled garden, located in beautiful village and close to Nyons and Vaison La Romaine. Would highly recommend this!

We enjoyed our stay very much.
Listing accurate and property squeaky clean and well maintained. The village, though small, has excellent facilities in terms of butcher, two boulangeries, and green-grocer cum general store all of whom provided us with fresh and flavoursome food. The restaurant is up for sale but we enjoyed self-catering and all the wherewithal was available to do it.
It is very convenient for visiting interesting towns and villages lying round about. And also nice to chill out in the small sheltered garden.
We were well briefed on arrival and helpful advice was available when we needed it.
We thoroughly recommend the place and hope to make a future visit.
Fantastic two weeks

We enjoyed a fantastic two weeks at L'Hirondelle. The house is very spacious and comfortable. It is very well equipped, a real home from home. It is situated in a lovely square. It was nice to be able to walk to the bakers in the mornings and enjoy a drink in the Cafe De France in the evenings. Fortunately we had some great weather allowing us to enjoy sitting in the garden which is very private. The area is beautiful with so much to see we would love to return sometime in the future.
A wonderful house

We first stayed at L'Hirondelle for one delightful week in the summer of 2012. We liked it so much that we came back again with our four year old son for a much longer stay at the start of 2013, and then again in autumn 2014.
It's a wonderful house, on a charming square at the heart of a delightful medieval village.
We searched far and wide to find a place with all that L'Hirondelle has to offer. We never found anywhere else that matches it:
* charming house
* in a medieval village in Provence
* with a garden
* walking distance to the shops
* near to numerous climbing and walking areas.
The house is beautiful & romantic; the village is simply delightful; the garden is ideal for small children (and (grand)parents!); the shops in Mirabel-aux-Baronnies are excellent (two bakers, one butcher, one general store and one newsagent, plus two cafes) and within 200 meters of the house; and the surroundings are as good as it gets in Provence (walking, climbing, cycling...).
In addition, the house has a large collection of art, culture, children and cookery books just waiting to be enjoyed. Plus a piano. And a great record collection.
During our long stay in 2013 we rarely found the need to venture further than 30 minutes drive from Mirabel. There is so much to do nearby.
In short: a unique and superb place to stay in Provence!
