Nestled on the edge of the Victorian conservation village of Tomich sits this pretty detached self catering cottage built at the request of Lord Tweedmouth in 1865 to house the infamous illicit whisky distiller John Fraser. The adjacent Old Brewery now rebuilt is a private residence. The self catering cottage setting is in a peaceful rural location with views over the surrounding countryside but is not isolated as it forms part of the conservation village of Tomich.
The model Victorian village of Tomich forms a part of the Victorian peer Lord Tweedmouths' Guisachan Estate, the large mansion house, which was his Highland estate home is now in ruins but the cottages in the village and the farm have remained largely unchanged since they were built. Victorian lamp posts line the quiet road through the village. The first golden retriever dog was bred in Tomich by Lord Tweedmouth and Winston Churchill a relative of Tweedmouth is said to have learnt to drive in the village.
Glen Affric is one of the most stunningly beautiful glens in the Highlands of Scotland and offers an ideal central location for touring this scenic and largely unspoilt region of Scotland. The region is an outstanding area for bird and wildlife watching and the self catering cottage owners encourage their guests to share their enthusiasm in supporting the local wildlife and environment. The self catering cottage garden attracts an abundance of birds and wildlife with foxes, badgers and the rare pine martin making nightly visits to the garden to be fed. In the skies over ahead red kites, buzzards and ravens circle, the superb golden eagles of Glen Affric can often be seen passing overhead.
With an abundance of forest tracks, paths and lochs the area offers a wealth of activities for the outdoor enthusiast with idyllic walking for all levels, mountaineering, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking and pony trekking. The spectacular 151 foot high Plodda Falls is situated 3.5 miles away and offers Forestry Commission maintained paths and trails with more extensive trails in nearby Glen Affric.
Half a mile away the Tomich Hotel offers a public bar & restaurant, and The Coach House Café with post office and gift shop is a must for cake lovers.(Both are seasonal)
Inverness the Highland capital is 35 miles away, Drumnadrochit and Loch Ness is 16 miles away, and Beauly 12 miles away.

We Could Not Have Asked For Better Place To Call Home For A Week.
By Amanda on 10-Sep-2018
We could not have asked for a better place to call home for a week. The Holiday Cottage had everything that we could need in way of comfort and equipment and even things we never thought of, such as night vision goggles to see what was skulking around the garden.
It was in a lovely location in the glen Affric forest and we loved hiking most days. We would highly recommend this to anyone.

By Gail on 04-Jul-2018
The Holiday Cottage is warm homey and very clean, has been refurbished over the last 5 years, also the added WiFi is great, the garden is beautiful and a lovely place to sit out and enjoy the scenery and peace and quiet with a nice glass of wine.
Lots of birds also visit the garden Woodpeckers love the bird table, as does the fox at night and pine martins.
It is set in the most fantastic little village with its own little cafe/tea room/post office, and a hotel a stone throw away for meals.
Pony trekking walking climbing mountaineering whatever you are into, or like me just peace and quiet in a fabulous location.
All you need to fetch is yourself it is really well kitted out, oh and a fantastic award winning Spar shop in next village about 5 mins away sells everything you need.

Really Nice Cottage
By Karen on 04-Jan-2016
Stayed at New Year but only just been able to place a review?
Really nice cottage, had everything we needed, was clean, tidy, loads of storage space in the kitchen (very useful as we had stopped at a supermarket on the way up). Local shop in the next village has a really good supply of meats (crocodile and zebra!) If you fancy something more exotic.
Garden is beautifully done but was a bit cold for us to sit out, was really secure for the dogs though.
Some great walks, a couple right on the doorstep too.
Will be back!!
We Had A Fantastic Week In Brewers Cottage
By Kevin on 24-May-2015
We had a fantastic week in Brewers Cottage. The quiet and peaceful Glen was superb. Listening the the birds and the stream was so relaxing. Glen Affric and Loch Affric are beautiful, and we saw some great wildlife. Dog Falls and Pudda Falls are a must see. We used our location as a base for visiting Skye on the West Coast, and Balmoral on the East. We would recommend Brewers Cottage, which is very well equipped, clean and warm.
