Description

The Brewers Cottage, Tomich, Glen Affric

A Nature-Positive Retreat in the Scottish Highlands ......

Nestled on the edge of the Victorian conservation village of Tomich, The Brewers Cottage is a charming detached retreat offering sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Built circa 1865 at the request of Lord Tweedmouth, the cottage was originally intended to house the infamous illicit whisky distiller, John Fraser. While the adjacent former brewery is now a private residence, the cottage remains a peaceful haven for nature lovers.

A Village Steeped in History
The model village of Tomich was established in the mid-1800s as part of the Guisachan Estate. While the grand Guisachan mansion now sits in ruins, the village cottages and farm remain largely unchanged. Atmospheric Victorian lamp posts line the quiet single-track road, and a life-sized bronze statue in the village centre commemorates the first Golden Retriever, which was bred nearby at Kerrow House by Lord Tweedmouth. History buffs will also note that Winston Churchill, a relative of the Lord, was a regular visitor and reportedly learned to drive here.

From the first look at the cottage and the big garden we understand how much the owner love this beautiful and peaceful place. We feed the animals and were rewarded with visits from the pine marten and badger. The cottage was so cozy, modern, clean and wirh all you need. We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you

Beautiful Autumn Colours

By Margaret Hughes on 18-Oct-2025

Beautiful autumn colours on the birch trees, travelling around one can see some fleshly wind blown trees from Storm Any. The regular badgers and pine martens are all looking very far, and the coal tits are very busy hiding the sunflower seeds for winter. The dedicated wildlife feeding area is a very good addition to the cottage.

Glorious retreat from the hurly burly

By John Ealing on 01-Nov-2025

Brewer'a Cottage is a real gem. Situated in a quiet location, far from the madding crowd, it's a real escape from city life. With its location comes both challenges and opportunities but Tesco delivers and the well appointed kitchen allows preparation of heart meals. The lounge is a haven from the Scottish weather with its wood burner, and the bedrooms are quiet and comfortable. If that wasn't enough, the wildlife (pine martens and badgers) that visit the garden every night as well as the picturesque splendour of the locality make Brewer's Cottage somewhere that I'll continue to visit.

Thank you so very much for your lovely review John, We were delighted to be able to accommodate you at the cottage again this year for your much needed break. We agree Tomich and the Glen Affric area is THE best place to escape too - healing for the mind and soul. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2026

Heaven on Earth!

By Andrea Mapplebeck on 18-Oct-2025

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the cottage, and we love it more on every visit. Julie and Steve have created a magical place, that is well equipped, clean and in an idyllic situation. We had wonderful walks straight out of the door, great day trips into the glens and down to Loch Garten, however, the evenings were the highlight. To sit and see at such close quarters pine martens and badgers is such a privilege and truly magical. It’s a very special cottage and our very very happy place, we get sad every time we have to leave, we will be back!

Owner response on 27-Oct-2025

Thank you so much for making a return visit this year, and for booking again in 2026. Its guests like yourselves that make all our hard work both in the cottage and in building a wildlife haven so worthwhile. I'm sure the wildlife responds to the sheer love and enthusiasm you have for them and act according lol You do attract a good proportion of the Tomich wildlife to dine each day during your stay. Your photographs are just stunning, thank you for sharing both the photos and the data so willingly - just brilliant ! Thank You for being such wonderful guests and we cannot wait to welcome you both back next year x

Great place for watching wildlife

By Kate and Margaret on 04-Oct-2025

The cottage was in a beautiful setting, very well equipped, warm and cosy and near to some great walks. It was the perfect base for an autumn holiday. We came hoping to see Pine Martens and we were not disappointed. Several different ones visited the feeding station at the back of the cottage, as well as a number of badgers that came for food every evening and we were able to watch them from the comfort of the sitting room. All in all, a great place to stay and we'd definitely come back.

Owner response on 17-Oct-2025

Thank You both for your very kind review, we are delighted to read that you had a lovely stay and got to see pine martens. You did so well to make such a long journey in the storm. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future, and hopefully your husband will join you on your next visit Kate. Julie & Steve
