Nestled on Cornwall's dramatic north coast, Portreath is a charming seaside village with a rich mining heritage and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Located around five miles north of Redruth, it was once a thriving industrial port, importing Welsh coal and exporting copper from the nearby mines around Chacewater. Today, the harbour is home to just a handful of fishing boats, but remnants of its fascinating past, including the original loading ramp, can still be seen around the village.

Portreath's beautiful sandy beach is one of its biggest attractions. A small stream runs across the sand before meeting the sea, and the beach is popular with families, swimmers, surfers and bodyboarders alike. The famous harbour wall wave, known locally as "Vortex", draws experienced bodyboarders whenever the conditions are right. The beach is cleaned daily during the main season and remains wonderfully dog friendly, with dogs welcome all year round and restricted only between 10am and 6pm during July and August.
