Description
Thatch End is a part-thatched cottage dating, in parts, back to the 17th Century, once being part of the nearby Chatsworth Estate.
Despite its cottage appearance, it offers surprisingly spacious accommodation making it ideal for families but also cosy enough for a quiet couples break.
Having been in the same family from when it was originally purchased from Chatsworth, it has been sympathetically refurbished.
Wherever possible, original features have been exposed or reinstated which have been integrated with the needs of modern living.
Entrance to the property is off a private footpath, which leads to Chatsworth House , with a Bar Brook to the other side of the path running to the River Derwent. The cottage is self contained with a back garden. there is a dedicated parking space for one car but further vehicles can be parked on the lane outside or in the village.
DOWNSTAIRS....a large hallway provides ample storage for outdoor gear, leading to front-facing reception rooms which look out onto the path and brook. The dining room, featuring a log burner and French doors to the garden, is ideal for getting the family together. Adjacent is the small but fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances including a dishwasher and washing machine. The spacious lounge, offers a warm space to relax and spend time together with board games, television and DAB speaker/ radio.
One of the sofa's can also be used as an occasional double bed which can be used by arrangement.
There is also a small W.C and basin on the ground floor .
UPSTAIRS...The upper floor hosts a full family bathroom and an additional generous shower room. Bedroom 1 is under the thatch and is a cosy relaxing space with king size bed, wardrobe , dresser as well as a day bed which can be used as an occasional bed for children (by arrangement)
Bedroom 2 is a bright, river-facing rooms with Double bed, wardrobe, dresser.
Bedroom 3 is a small functional room with a triple sleeper bunk, perfect for children or groups.
OUTSIDE.... lies a private, enclosed garden with garden furniture. This space connects to a gated parking space for one car. There is also room for a second car on the lane close to the garden wall.
Please note that barbecues and candles are prohibited to protect the historic thatched roof and associated insurance liabilities.

Fabulous position
By melanie on 01-Sep-2025A fantastic few days with all of our family. The cottage is in a fabulous position on the edge of Chatsworth grounds. Lots of pubs and restaurants in walking distance too. A very clean cottage, with lots of information as regards to local amenities and local walks. A perfect place to stay for a retreat in The Peaks. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Polly.

By Peter on 01-Mar-2026Lovely, clean and well equipped property and ideally situated for exploring the Chatsworth estate and surrounding villages. Polly was great, very helpful and responsive especially when we managed to leave a couple of items behind!
Lovely
By Paula on 01-Jun-2026We did not want to leave this lovely cottage. Our stay was perfect - all six of us loved our time there. Polly’s cottage is even better than the pictures show. We were surprised at how spacious it was once we were there. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining area was perfect for us to have some family meals together. Being a household full of teens - we appreciated the 2.5 bathrooms and on demand hot water. Our Mercedes van did fit, just barely, in the parking space, though we had to unload before parking and had to keep the gate open. We loved the location as well - we spent many days exploring the Chatsworth House and grounds, and the cottage is situated right on the public footpath. We had fun meeting people as they were coming and going on their hiking and camping trips. Baslow itself is incredibly charming and we felt totally comfortable everywhere we went. We truly hope we can make it back there someday!

By Danny on 30-Jun-2026Really loved this house. Stayed for a family wedding at Heathy Lea which was a few minutes drive or a throughly enjoyable 20min walk through the beautiful Chatsworth estate. House was clean, well presented and had everything we wanted. Location was amazing with stunning countryside walks straight out of the door.
Idyllic
