Description
MardonMardon is one of three beautifully styled, well-equipped holiday cottages nestled within the stunning Clifford Barton Estate — a tranquil private nature reserve centred around a beautiful lake.
Sleeping up to five guests across two bedrooms, Mardon is the perfect escape for families, couples and dog owners looking to reconnect with nature, enjoy some adventure or simply slow down and unwind.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, whatever the weather. Challenge the family in the games room, borrow bikes from the shared bike pool and cycle along a riverside track for a refreshing wild swim and drink a the Fingle Bridge Inn. Back at Clifford Barton you can relax in the off-grid, wood-fired hot tub, spend time birdwatching, or try some forest bathing on the woodland platform nestled amongst ancient woodland. For a peaceful start to the day, the lake or woodland platform is the perfect spot for an early-morning yoga or meditation session.
Lounge/dining area and kitchen downstairs with stable door out to the rear enclosed private fenced garden. Downstairs toilet and shower room.
Upstairs there is a family bathroom with bath, one double bedroom and one triple bedroom (one single bed and one double bed). Both bedrooms have views out over Fingle Woods and the Teign Valley, Dartmoor. There is a mezzanine kids play area above the triple bedroom with toys.
A stay at Clifford Barton is a wonderful place to explore in every season. Enjoy woodland and countryside walks, spot wildlife, visit nearby beaches, head out on a mountain or road biking adventure, or simply settle in and enjoy some quality time together. Elspeth the resident potter can run pottery taster sessions for guests.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, nature or a chance to completely switch off, Mardon offers a peaceful countryside escape with plenty to discover right on the doorstep.

30% of the total hire fee is payable at the time of booking, the rest being due 6 weeks before the stay. There is a £100 returnable damages deposit per stay.

On a clear night, the stars are incredible
By Carly on 03-Sep-2025‘Mardon’ and the other cottages at Clifford Barton are set in a beautiful location, with views over the wooded valley. Onsite, there is a lake within walking distance which is so tranquil, and you can also easily walk to Fingle Bridge along the river. We made use of the bikes available which was a bonus, and the games barn was a useful space when it rained (which it did, a lot!) On a clear night, the stars are incredible. The cottage itself is well equipped, and our children loved the ‘secret’ play area mezzanine. Comfy beds, everything you need in the kitchen, and the grassed garden was appreciated by the children and dog! We had a lovely stay.
Fabulous house and location
By Jessie on 01-Nov-2025Fabulous house and location - we had trouble with the hot water in the cottage after a power cut, however, Vicki was brilliantly helpful and came round to sort it out. Cottage was beautiful and perfect for what we needed - and the games room was a ‘win’ with the kids! We also absolutely loved the log burner for a few cosy nights in.
We've had the most relaxing stay at the cosy cottage, lots of nature and history on the doorstep.

We really appreciated the well equipped kitchen which had everything we needed for a family's New Year. It was nice to have the all things like handsoap, toilet rolls and replacement bin bags, you'd be surprised how many times these things need to be brought in. We loved the woodburner and again the good supply of wood and matches at the property.

Loved the lake, outside space, house martins, bats, stars, bbq, play barn and walks from the door, cycle tracks and river swimming and local pubs . Would definitely recommend. Organised two food deliveries while there so as not to waste time. Cottage tastefully appointed and comfy beds
