Westward Ho! beach is a 10 minute leisurely walk from Thorndale, and offers something for everyone, you will not be disappointed! It is the perfect destination with just over two miles of golden sands at low water, with the prestigious Blue Flag award for facilities and water quality. It has very few rip tides or under water beach obstructions, it's one of the safest beaches in Devon.

The tidal sea pool & the wreck of the 18th century merchant ship the 'Sally' which can be seen at low tide are a must!

The village, promenade and redeveloped village green, which is only a 10 minute walk from Thorndale, offers a wide selection of quality places to eat such as 'Morans' 'Pig on the beach' and the 'Pier house' just to name a few. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to fish and chips and, importantly, ice cream on the beach front and in the village.

If you enjoy water sports, Westward Ho! is perfect for surfing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUPing, body boarding, and kayaking. There are several places to hire equipment and book in for lessons near the beach front.

This beach break is offshore in Easterly winds and works with any swell from a Westerly direction. The ideal swell size is in the 2-6ft range. The beach here is massive so it’s easy to spread out and find waves with relatively few other people in the lineup.

There is a large rocky point that stretches out to sea on the left-hand side of the beach, which can often provide a helpful channel to paddle out.

It doesn’t get much better for learning to surf than here at Westward Ho. The long sloping beach means the waves are fairly mellow, making them perfect for practising your pop-up without nose-diving or getting guillotined by the lip of the wave.

OTHER SURF SPOTS CLOSE TO WESTWARD HO!

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to other waves close to Westward Ho!. To the north, you’ll find Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands which are both quality beach breaks, with Saunton offering slower more user-friendly waves as opposed to Croyde’s high-performance peaks.

Heading north on the Atlantic Highway (40-minute drive), you’ll be surfing Bude in no time at all with lots of beach breaks to choose from, and some great reef breaks if you’re up for a search.

LAND ACTIVITIES

The Royal North Devon Golf Club, which is a beautiful course and the oldest golf course in England comprising 170 acres, is only a 5 minute drive from this property.

There are several nearby riding stables if you are an equestrian lover.

If you have little ones, the Big Sheep, which is a theme park, is an all-weather family attraction day out. On Westward Ho! beach, you will find Pebble Ridge Adventure Golf and Go Karts.

MASTER BEDROOM - BEDROOM 1

And if that's not enough, why settle for just indoor entertainment, when you could take a private evening dip in the hot tub, accessible via the bedroom patio doors which opens out to the festoon lighting surrounding the veranda and the hot tub. The Master Suite is designed to evoke an atmosphere of indulgence and opulence, it's the ideal way to indulge your senses as you drift off to sleep to the soothing sound of waves crashing against the nearby shore.

To the front of this wonderful property, you can find a small lawned area with a bench located underneath the tree. The tranquil scene is elegantly framed by surrounding flower and shrub beds, which are beautifully illuminated by the tree lights at night. This provides a perfect escape for some peaceful time away from it all. In addition, there is ample parking for up to five vehicles, which is truly a rarity in this area. To make sure there is an added layer of privacy, safety and private sanctuary, the property is enclosed by high green screening and secured with solid timber electric gates.

Access to the property is granted through an automated code lock, and a personalised code provided just for your stay, along with a key fob allowing you to control the electric gates at any time - even from within the kitchen!

This property has been designed for a maximum of 10 people and rates are charged based on a per night basis. To ensure the security and safety of our property, a pre-authorised transaction known as a "shadow payment" for the sum of £250 will be required from your credit card as a security deposit. A member of our team will send you a payment link via email 1-2 days prior to your booking date to take this payment. Please note that this amount will not be taken from your account unless there are damages or breakages in Thorndale. Due to the level of finish offered in this house the decision has been made NOT to allow any pets. All the information you need to check-in is available on our Airguide app, the link is provided on your booking confirmation email. A generated access code for the front door smart lock will be emailed to you the day before your check-in for security reasons. Self-check-in is very straight forward so there is no need to worry! Self-check-in is any time after 3pm
