Overview
Description
The Overlook has been architect designed and has breathtaking sea views across the English Channel. There are two large double bedrooms, both with en-suite showers and doors opening onto a separate balcony facing south and looking out to sea. There is a further twin bedroom, and a family bathroom. The open plan living area is accessed down some internal steps and benefits form patio doors leading to a second large terrace with table and seating. The Overlook has been furnished to a high standard and benefits from ample off road parking. It is situated only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Ventnor, a Victorian seaside town with buildings full of character. In addition to the main shopping street where you will find a selection of small supermarkets to include a Co-op and Tesco Express, there are parks and gardens, museums and the Winter Gardens - an entertainment venue with a growing reputation for theatre, concerts, comedy and dance shows and of course the restaurant/bar.
There are a number of great restaurants in Ventnor including Cantina, The Ale & Oyster, and the Smoking Lobster to name a few. The famous Spyglass pub sits right on the sea, and there are some great tea and coffee shops and Lady Scarlett’s Tea Parlour (complete with 1940’s theming) are favourites. Or if you fancy a take-away to enjoy by the beach, the Ventnor Haven Fishery on The Esplanade sell fantastic fish & chips, locally caught and prepared to order.
Ventnor Botanic Garden lies in the remarkable microclimate at the heart of the famous 'Undercliff.' This unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs. In addition to enjoying the lovely gardens, it also hosts events and exhibitions and there is a restaurant and Café on-site for refreshments; lunch or coffee and cake!
From The Esplanade you can take the level walk, along the sea wall to Bonchurch, or walk along the cliff path towards Steephill Cove, a beautiful sheltered bay only accessed by foot.

Wonderful relaxing stay at The Overlook
By Sue on 02-Jul-2019We have just returned from a lovely week at The Overlook. The house is very modern and is very well equipped with everything you will need for a self catering holiday, the beds super comfy and the views amazing. The pictures on the website do not do it justice when you step inside it really has the wow factor! Before booking I spoke to Sharon from Island Holidays Homes who was extremely helpful as we were looking for a property that would be suitable for 3 generations of our family, including an 89 year old. The Overlook has only 5 internal steps which was ideal. In order to get the amazing views the property is located high up on the hillside and although only a few minutes downhill walk into Ventnor town the uphill walk would be a challenge to say the least. We are frequent visitors to the Isle-of-Wight and I have to say this is one of the best properties we have stayed in on the Island. Would we return? Yes certainly. Thank you for a wonderful holiday we will be back.
Happy holiday
By Donna on 19-Jul-2021Lovely place to stay with fantastic views. The terraces are lovely. It is a peaceful location and enjoyed by all the family
Super house
By Philip on 13-May-2022The Overlook definitely has the wow factor. It was spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location is perfect for watching the shipping heading to and from the Solent. There are some good pubs and restaurants in Ventnor (the Spyglass, Crab and Lobster Tap and Smoking Lobster) but be aware that the town is built on a hill and the walk from the town centre is steep.
Late Summer at The Overlook
By Annie on 13-Oct-2023Lovely clean, modern & spacious accommodation with fabulous views of Ventnor and ocean beyond. Good and helpful information about property, services, helplines within property. A good base to explore from. Lovely balcony areas to sit and relax.
Stunning stay - beautiful view and fabulous home.
By Carly on 30-Aug-2024Stayed with my mum and dad and 5 year old daughter. This house is incredible!! Waking up to a view of the ocean is my favourite thing and this home had views in abundance. Easy walk to beach (not so easy back up) great restaurants and facilities and good place to explore the rest of the island. I highly recommend!
Lovely views across the sea!
By Elizabeth on 10-Jun-2019Really enjoyed our week's stay at the overlook. Beautiful views, comfortable beds and a full kitchen. Everything you need for a fantastic holiday. Only possible problem is the overlook is situated at the top of a very steep bank.
