Description
Beck Cottage is a charming end of terrace cottage, dating back to the 1800s, sitting in an enviable location in Troutbeck Bridge at the foot of the Troutbeck Valley and located in between the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere within the Lake District National Park.Beck Cottage has been recently renovated to provide modern and comfortable accommodation for up to four guests in two bedrooms.
The cottage perfectly blends character and traditional charm with modern day conveniences including a contemporary and well equipped kitchen, fast fibre WiFi and central heating throughout. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms and with it's own private garden/patio area at the rear of the property and a large lawned area to the side for the use of guests it is ideal for couples, friends or families.
The old part of Troutbeck Bridge is a pretty hamlet and perfectly located between the towns of Ambleside (3 miles) and Windermere (1 mile) where there are plenty of shops, cafes and amenities yet you are tucked away from the hustle and bustle during the busy summer months. Whether you like to walk, cycle or take to the water, there is plenty to keep you busy here. The eastern fells, Kentmere Horseshoe and the High Street Range are easily accessible directly from the cottage as are many other walks in the Troutbeck Valley. Mountain bikers will love Troutbeck and Jenkin Crag - an old bridleway that traverses Wansfell Pike - and watersports lovers can go paddle boarding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking or windsurfing on Lake Windermere.
For anybody wishing to leave their cars and take advantage of public transport the bus stop is 50 yards away at the end of the lane with bus links to virtually anywhere within the National Park and the greater Cumbria area.
Other attractions nearby include The World of Beatrix Potter, the Steamboat museum and The Lakes Aquarium. For a change of scene hop on board a ferry to the western shores of the lake and explore the National Trust's Hill Top and Wray Castle. For those looking for a challenge you can hike to the top of Scafell Pike (the tallest mountain in England) or test your metal at Go Ape in Grizedale Forest.
There are two bedrooms; one king bed room and one twin bed room. Both bedrooms share a shower room (sorry no bath). There is a separate dining kitchen and a cosy lounge with a cast iron coal effect gas stove.
The kitchen is equipped with electric built-under oven, gas hob, integrated dishwasher and refrigerator including freezer compartment. Please be aware that there is no washing machine.
The property has gas central heating, which guests control by a thermostat. All linen, towels, hot water, gas and electricity are included and there is a dedicated Netflix subscription on the TV.
The cottage has the added bonus of private parking for two family sized cars.
There is a small garden at the rear with lawn, patio area and table and 4 chairs.
To the side of the cottage is a large lawned garden area for guests' use.
Pets are not allowed at Beck Cottage.
Beck Cottage welcomes guests all year round with short breaks also available.
Access details:
Beck Cottage is unsuitable for wheelchair access.
It is a 160 year old stone property with the staircase to the first floor being steeper than it would be in a modern property. If you have severe mobility issues you may find this cottage unsuitable.
The external access to the property is via 2 steps at the front and is a very low single step at the rear.
Access to the patio is via 2 steps but there is a large side garden with level access.

There is no EV charging point at the cottage and EV charging via the domestic supply constitutes a fire hazard and therefore is not allowed. There are charging points in the locality - please message the host if you require details.
Storage of e-bikes and e-scooters is not allowed in the property as this constitutes a fire hazard. A shed in our garden area can be made available for this purpose on request and at no extra charge.

By Marta and Simon on 31-Jul-20264 days ago I highly recommend the cottage. We spent 15 days exploring the Lakes with the cottage as our base and we couldn’t have chosen better! The bus stops right at the doorstep and we could visit Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Keswick (even if it’s about an hour it’s well worth it!) as of course Grasmere and Kendal (the Ye olde Fleece inn is the BEST place for Sunday roast ever!!!). The cottage was comfortable and had everything we could need, the kitchen was spotless and bright and the room was cosy. We even walked to Windermere a couple of times (around 25 min lovely walk) and the host was always a responsive and kind. We are already missing the cottage :)

By Millie on 02-Jul-20262 July 2026 We had a lovely stay at Beck cottage. The kitchen had all the appliances we needed to cook everyday and there was even a BBQ with coal and lighters available. We enjoyed the garden on sunny days. There was a good amount of storage and the rooms were as shown in the photos. We enjoyed the board games available and found all the info in the cottage helpful for our stay. Olwyn was quick to reply and very friendly, answering any questions we had. The location is perfect for hopping on and off the bus, and was easily found upon arrival. We enjoyed many days out and walks from the cottage with incredible views not far away. We would highly recommend staying here as we had a lovely stay!

The heating was really easy to use, and there was a constant supply of hot water. The location was fantastic - just minutes drive from Windermere and Ambleside. And although it was just off the main road there was no sound from the traffic. We started our days sitting eating breakfast, watching the rabbits and birds in the garden. We then did lots of walks - so many options in the area, and great suggestions given by Olwyn in the folder in the house... some straight from the house. And then after a day of walking, back to the cottage for a cosy night of tv on the squishy sofas. A perfect holiday! A huge thank you to Olwyn for her great communication and welcome to the cottage. By Katrien on 19-Jun-2026June 26 Beck Cottage is conveniently close to a main road, but right next to the track, so there is no noise pollution. It's small, but perfectly furnished. Handy thermostat, so the house could be heated quickly and easily. Just behind the cottages is a public footpath, which is a nice surprise. The cottage is the ideal base for visiting the Lakes. Some recommendations: Ambleside (6.5 km) with Stock Ghyll Force (waterfall), Armitt Museum, scones at Mr. H. and Sunday roast at The Priest Hole. Day walk at Elterwater (11 km) with Cathedral Caves (wow!) and slate bridge. Enjoyed the trip to Hill Top (17 km) and Wray Castle on the way back. Also a walk around Grasmere (12 km) and Rydal Water. Grasmere itself was a bit disappointing. In Kendal (15 km), the museum was unfortunately closed on Thursday, but luckily the second-hand shop nearby, Antique Emporium, was open. Wandered around for a long time. Finally enjoyed Lowthry Castle and gardens (49 km). Enjoyed Ulsterwater on the way back. Electric car: 2x fast charging at Rheged.
