Beck Cottage is a charming end of terrace cottage, dating back to the 1800s, sitting in an enviable location in Troutbeck Bridge at the foot of the Troutbeck Valley and located in between the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere within the Lake District National Park.Beck Cottage has been recently renovated to provide modern and comfortable accommodation for up to four guests in two bedrooms.
The cottage perfectly blends character and traditional charm with modern day conveniences including a contemporary and well equipped kitchen, fast fibre WiFi and central heating throughout. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms and with it's own private garden/patio area at the rear of the property and a large lawned area to the side for the use of guests it is ideal for couples, friends or families.
The old part of Troutbeck Bridge is a pretty hamlet and perfectly located between the towns of Ambleside (3 miles) and Windermere (1 mile) where there are plenty of shops, cafes and amenities yet you are tucked away from the hustle and bustle during the busy summer months. Whether you like to walk, cycle or take to the water, there is plenty to keep you busy here. The eastern fells, Kentmere Horseshoe and the High Street Range are easily accessible directly from the cottage as are many other walks in the Troutbeck Valley. Mountain bikers will love Troutbeck and Jenkin Crag - an old bridleway that traverses Wansfell Pike - and watersports lovers can go paddle boarding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking or windsurfing on Lake Windermere.
For anybody wishing to leave their cars and take advantage of public transport the bus stop is 50 yards away at the end of the lane with bus links to virtually anywhere within the National Park and the greater Cumbria area.
Other attractions nearby include The World of Beatrix Potter, the Steamboat museum and The Lakes Aquarium. For a change of scene hop on board a ferry to the western shores of the lake and explore the National Trust's Hill Top and Wray Castle. For those looking for a challenge you can hike to the top of Scafell Pike (the tallest mountain in England) or test your metal at Go Ape in Grizedale Forest.
There are two bedrooms; one king bed room and one twin bed room. Both bedrooms share a shower room (sorry no bath). There is a separate dining kitchen and a cosy lounge with a cast iron coal effect gas stove.
The kitchen is equipped with electric built-under oven, gas hob, integrated dishwasher and refrigerator including freezer compartment. Please be aware that there is no washing machine.
The property has gas central heating, which guests control by a thermostat. All linen, towels, hot water, gas and electricity are included and there is a dedicated Netflix subscription on the TV.
The cottage has the added bonus of private parking for two family sized cars.
There is a small garden at the rear with lawn, patio area and table and 4 chairs.
To the side of the cottage is a large lawned garden area for guests' use.
Pets are not allowed at Beck Cottage.
Beck Cottage welcomes guests all year round with short breaks also available.
Access details:
Beck Cottage is unsuitable for wheelchair access.
It is a 160 year old stone property with the staircase to the first floor being steeper than it would be in a modern property. If you have severe mobility issues you may find this cottage unsuitable.
The external access to the property is via 2 steps at the front and is a very low single step at the rear.
Access to the patio is via 2 steps but there is a large side garden with level access.

There is no EV charging point at the cottage and EV charging via the domestic supply constitutes a fire hazard and therefore is not allowed. There are charging points in the locality - please message the host if you require details.
Storage of e-bikes and e-scooters is not allowed in the property as this constitutes a fire hazard. A shed in our garden area can be made available for this purpose on request and at no extra charge.

By Stefan on 04-Sep-2026We had a wonderful stay with Olwyn in Troutbeck! For two people the accommodation is ideal. The location is perfect: absolutely central for hiking in the Lake District, sightseeing, strolling and eating well. There is a cosy pub just around the corner, and having your own parking space is a huge plus. The apartment is quite newly furnished and technically excellent: the gigabit Wi-Fi and the smart TV (Netflix, BBC app) gave us long evenings with Top Gear. Olwyn is a fantastic, super-friendly hostess. When the mishap happened to us and we damaged two placemats in the dishwasher, she took it extremely calmly – thank you very much for that! We'd love to come back and can fully recommend the accommodation!

By Frans on 07-Aug-2026We had a wonderful time in cozy & clean Beck Cottage. It is nearby the mainroad & a busstop, but far enough, not to hear the road. Olwyn was very responsive when we had a query. The kitchen was well equipped. We loved the four bread toaster in the kitchen. The only thing we maybe 'missed' was a somewhat larger fryingpan for the four of us preparing dinner but we solved that by using two smaller ones :-). The bathroom had a good shower. We slept very well in the beds in nice bedroo. The livingroom was cosy. There were many leaflets of the area, books & games. We could sit outside. People from the other houses are able to walk past the backsite (kitchen) mostly for hanging their laundry or fetching something from their shed. We made many walks, also directly from the cottage, like Wansfell pike and waterfall Stockghyll Force near Ambleside and came back by bus. All in all an excellent stay. If returning to Lake district we would like to come back.
